As the first fellowship for the year it set a high benchmark. Priests and gangsters, nonnas and gondoliers, even the Pope was there. It was indeed a religious night as the Pope and the Nun took out the costume prizes, Kerrie took out the spot prize, and Ken took out a special prize for the pizzahat/face. Richard organized a great night ably assisted by Rewa, Jude and Phil. Thanks to all. It was great to see our potential members Vivien and partner Mark, Tim and Lois came to enjoy the night and to get to know everyone better. The staff at La Cuci- na were very hospitable, and their generosity with the food provided, and their attitude showed the re- spect that Rotary is held in locally. It was again a busy Rotary week as Megan, Mal- colm and I again this week interviewed a prospec- tive member and talked about the benefits and obli- gations of Rotary. We’re doing so again next week. I have to thank Megan for the enthusiasm and dili- gence with which she is pursuing membership and marketing, she is making sure that potential mem- bers feel welcome but also understand what it all means, and what is needed on both sides. This week also we had a special Board meeting on Tuesday night the 28 th July, at the request of the special subcommittee of International to discuss the work the subcommittee had done on a Grant appli- cation for Sabu. David Langworthy, John Manks, Jim O’Brien and Ken Mirams took on this task, and I would especially like to record my thanks to them. In summary, it was agreed by the Board. That Rotary Club of Beaumaris will currently sup- port the $13,000 budget allocation to be our com- mitment to the Solar Global Grant proposal, and agree to allow members of the club to start to se- cure support from other Rotary Clubs, District 9800, Kupang District and other contributors, of the bal- ance, prior to a formal review of the project/ Contents 1 Presidents Report 2 Notices 3 / 4 La Cucina Photos 5 Concourse Car and Bike Show 6 Make a Girl’s Day Flyer 7 RC of Caulfield Monash Concert 8 Club Program 9 Club Structure / Picture of Week Unless stated otherwise venue is Victoria Golf Club 6.30 for 7.00

application by the Board in the September/October time frame. It will be made clear to any of the Clubs ap-proached that if any of the preconditions are not met, e.g. funding not secured from other clubs, essential other criteria not met then the project could not proceed. It was also made clear that there will be no fur-ther monetary allocation by the RCOB. The $13,000 is the upper limit of any contribution for us. If the costings come in as any more than this then the project will be scaled back. It was also agreed that there will be a Formal Meeting of the board with both John Beaty and Graham Richardson (by invitation) present so that all requirements and expectations could be thoroughly canvassed and all queries satisfied prior to any authorisation for the Grant to be submitted. There will be a further discussion of the project, both by the board and the membership follow-ing John Beatys return from overseas. John is the Director of the International Committee. For our local work Chris DArcy and Lynda Doutch had a meeting with Fairway Hostel in Bluff Road, to see if we can undertake a project relating to older residents with them and the in-dications are looking very promising. I would like us to start our international loose change project next week, if you have any spare international coins in a drawer at home, empty them out and bring them along next week. We will be trying to fill up Jam jars (not James jars, as James has already contributed international coins from the Farmers Market change). Next Saturday is the Farmers Market, and even

although Heather has had to go to the South of

France, I am sure that we will all cope and en-

joy ourselves. Looking forward to seeing you

all next Thursday for Lyndas new member talk.
