    finished first and second in the ran(ings for the 22nd consecuti!e year, with the latter erasing the

    gains that led it to almost to))le Aon& Bon&in the 201.Index e# ealands $nde% score

    di))ed slightly, but it held onto its global and regional third#)lace slot, beating S#it,erland-+th/

    The worlds most#im)ro!ed economy is Se*c%elles, which saw its score rise +" )oints,

    than(s to a notable turnaround in restoring fiscal sustainability and the remote island nations

    ascension to the 8orld Trade rgani7ation 8ala#isIndexscore declined the most worldwide

    -;0 )oints/ due largely to a large budget deficit and rising debt#ser!ice costs The resulting .1'

    o!erall score is barely enough to (ee) the &frican nation out of the re)ressed category

    TheIndexalso studies economic freedom on a regional basis $n the 2016Index,

    economic freedom le!els rose in three regions -&sia#acific, Giddle#3astorth &frica, :ub#

    :aharan &frica/ and declined in three 3uro)e, orth &merica, :outh and =entral &merica#

    &sia#acific countries dominate both the to) and the bottom of the 201.Indexran(ings
