Kagawa Memorial Center is where Rev. Toyohiko Kagawa and his co-workers started their ministry in 1909 in what was once a slum area.

Nowadays’ Kagawa Memorial Center is doing community welfare, peace activities, and building a society where people can live together by helping each other and those in need.

In 2009, members and supporters of the Jesus Band Social Welfare Organization celebrated the 100th anniversary of Toyohiko Kagawa’s ministry. The Kagawa Center was constructed in his memory and to continue his vision. Originally called the Kyureidan ( “Soul Saving Group” ), the ministry provided various services that were not provided by the Japanese social welfare system at that time.

We continue to work together to assist with various kinds of needs in modern society. Please join us in promoting our activi-ties. Let’s work together for a better world.

Toyohiko Kagawa1888~1960

Work to support community welfare was begun by Rev. Toyohiko Kagawa and his co-workers between 1909-1923. Supporting people in need became the

roots of the co-operative movement, labor movement, farmers’ movement, women’s suffrage, labor unions, children’s rights, and the peace movement. Rev. Toyohiko Kagawa devoted his whole life to help suffering people and reform society.Kagawa's ministry began in Kobe and

then spread all over Japan. His ministries rapidly expanded after the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923. Rev. Kagawa and his supporters were

able to build bases of action and make an impact on society in Japan, especially in the areas of social welfare, education, medicine, farming, unions, co-operatives, peace and human rights.

Includes a place for holding seminars, 12 exhibits, special displays, photo-graphs, videos, and picture screens.

Kagawa Memorial Center was built as a community center. The center includes a resource center (for study, research, and developing programs), the Kagawa Museum and archives, Yuai Day Care Center, a café, and Kobe Jesus Band Church.
