THE MUSHROOM RESEARCHERS AND GROWERS SOCIETY OF THAILAND Invitation from the President On behalf of the Organizing Committee, it is my pleasure to invite you to attend the THAILAND NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON MUSHROOM SCIENCE which will be scheduled to take place in December 14-17, 2011 at Chiang Mai University, Chiang Mai, Thailand. You may expect to get an excellent program from well-known mycologists with an enjoyable holiday to visit Chiang Mai province in the North of Thailand. Due to the efforts of the Organizing Committee, we have compiled a wide array of plenary lectures from distinguished scientists, researchers and mushroom growers. The program is summarized in the following pages. We are very pleased to note that all those invited by us to deliver lectures will give their consent to participate in the Conference. This led to an optimum program for a wide range of mycologists and mushroom growers in Thailand as well as from other Countries. This meeting will offer an opportunity to visit the Mushroom Farms in Chiang Mai as well. I am looking forward to welcoming you to this exciting Conference. Centre for Research in Fungal Diversity, Department of Ecology & Biodiversity, The University of Hong Kong, SAR PR China Abstract: Phylogenetic relationships within the genus Cyathus (bird's nest fungi) and among other gasteromycetes were investigated using neighbor joining, maximum likelihood, weighted maximum parsimony and MrBayes analyses of ITS and LSU ribosomal DNA sequences datasets. Twenty-two taxa of Cyathus were used in the analyses based primarily on type and authentic specimens. The current infrageneric classification system of Brodie recognizes seven infrageneric groups based on morphological characters, including peridium plications, and variations in peridium hair anatomy, peridiole structure and fruitbody colour. These seven groups are not supported by molecular data. Instead, the ITS and LSU datasets support recognition of three infrageneric groups herein named the ollum, pallidum and striatum groups. Morphological characters useful in distinguishing these groups include basidiospore size, fruitbody coloration, and peridium anatomy. The inclusion of 22 Cyathus taxa in a molecular phylogenetic analysis of a broad sampling of gasteromycetes supports recognition of Cyathus as a monophyletic lineage within the euagarics. Cyathus africanus var. latisporus is considered a synonym of Cyathus jiayuguanensis, and a new combination Cyathus lanatus (Brodie) R.L. Zhao is proposed based on morphological and molecular data. Presentation Guideline for oral presentation- All presentation must be in English. For oral presentations, all necessary technical equipment will be made available. When submitting your abstracts, please let us know your choice of technical equipment. Audio-visual equipment available includes slide projector, overhead projector and LCD projector for MS Power-point presentation. Power-point presentations are recommended. Those delegates who are using Power-point presentation should provide a computer disc, easy disc (USB) , handy drive or CD with the presentation material created in windows95, windows 98, windows XP, office 97 or office 2000 version, to be handled the technicians before the beginning of your presentation. Guideline for poster presentation- Posters will be presented at the conference. Each poster will be displayed in December 15, 2011 between 9:00- 17:30 h. All papers will also be published in a Book of Abstracts. Proceedings: Papers from the conference will be considered to publish in a special issue of an International Journal of Agricultural Technology. All full papers will be peer reviewed.
