What is Power-over-Ethernet(乙太網路供電)?

Terminology


The PoE Standardization 802.3af

• June 2003 – IEEE802.3af-2003 ratified– Over 68% of lines in the standard were written

by PowerDsine !!


• Power – Transmit power only for authenticated compatible terminals (e.g.: IP Phones or WLAN Access Points, Security Cameras, etc.)

• Safe solution – Automatically blocks power to legacy Ethernet devices (e.g.: Laptops, NICs, switches, etc.)

• System Protection – Protect systems against overloads and short-circuits

• Compatibility - Compatible with standard Category 5 (and above) cabling infrastructure , no need to replace cables, patch-panels, RJ-45 outlets, etc.

IEEE 802.3af – Main Objectives


PSE output: 350mA continuous, 44Vdc to 57Vdc.

PSE continuous average output power: 15.4W min.

PD allowed consumed power: 12.95W max.

Midspan supplies power on spare pairs only: 4/5 (+), 7/8 (-)

Endspan supplies power on either data pairs: 1/2 (-), 3/6 (+) or spare pairs: 4/5 (+), 7/8 (-).

PSE stabilizes a 20V signal, for 30ms, over the port output, and measures the consumed current.

The consumed current indicates the PD’s power consumption class
