In English the possessive is implied by an ‘s or s’ depending on the whether the word I plural.

In Japanese the particle の serves both functions

JAPANESE EXPLANATION

- To express possession (e.g. A’s B) say:Aの B

これ わたしの くるまです。That is my carレストランの たべものThe restaurants food.

- To express belonging to an organization/group:organization の name

ときょうだいがく の たなかさんです。I am Mr. Tanaka from Tokyo University.
