私は、玲別花(Rebbeca)と申します。I am single mom with two college students. I lived in Japan for 15 years. I was teaching English in Japan and Japanese in US. My hobby is Shorinji-kenpo, Haiku, Calligraphy, and Tea ceremony. I always have deep respect the Japanese culture. JLC is a perfect place for me. I took a Japanese course for 21/2 years at a community college and a language school. I finished the same textbook “Japanese for Busy People III” used in JLC Japanese 301-304 courses. I can’t find any reason to repeat the same textbook. Do you recommend the “More advanced Japanese Course” for me?

Our answer: To find a course fitting your skill level is very important. We recommend you to take a Self Level Check test first. Please visit “Course Descriptions” page of our website, and try “Self Level Check Japanese 301-304”, http://www.japanese-language.net/Self Level Check 301-304.pdf. If your score indicates “Check More Advanced course”, please check the Course Descriptions of “More Advance”. If you are comfortable with the requirements for this course then you are ready to take this course. From my experience, it is extremely difficult to take the More Advanced course with just 21/2 years study.

Course Descriptions of More Advanced: This course is designed for those who have achieved JLPT Level 1, JLPT Level 2 (higher than 80%, JLPT score), or achieved 550 or higher on the JETRO Test, or the equivalent skill. Please note it is the minimum requirement. It requires grammar at a relatively high level, knowledge of more than 1,600 kanji and 9,000 words, and the ability to converse, read, and write about matters of a general nature. This level is normally reached after studying Japanese around 800 hours and after completion of an intermediate course.

This course is designed to cover listening, speaking, writing, and reading the Japanese language. You will do quizzes, read newspapers, and have substantial conversation. We use different reading materials and have 60 minutes discussion time covering different topics. Our instruction is immersion only in Japanese (no English at all.) and sending/receiving Email is also in Japanese. This course requires an electronic dictionary and the use of a computer (write/read/down load Japanese document).

もうすぐ夏休みになりますが、最近は、あまり元気がないので、休みがいりま

す。毎日、学生がうるさ過ぎて、腹の立つことが多く、家に帰ると、とても疲

れていますよ。仕事が終わって夏休みになったら、小さい旅行をするつもりで

す。けれども、場所はまだ決めていません。山登りが好きだけど、六月はたい

ていまだ山の上に雪があります。でも、今年は雨が少なくて、雪もないかもし

れません。ハイキングの案内所に連絡してみるつもりです。

去年の夏休みはとても楽しかったです。 家内も暇があり、一緒に日本の家内のしんせき

日本人なので、たくさんの人に会わなければなりませんでしたが、私は、自分の時間が

「セキュリティーブランケット(安心毛布)」というのは一般に心の安まる物をさし

て言う。子供たちの場合、それは安心感を得るためにいつも抱きしめているものだ。

私の息子のウィルちゃんには、変な安心毛布がある。それは歯ブラシ、青緑色の歯

ブラシだ。ウィルちゃんは歯ブラシは使わずに持って歩いているだけだ。最初は歯

ブラシを一本だけ持っていた。それが、二本になり、そして三本になった。今は四

本の歯ブラシを持って歩いている。それは、毎日朝一番に捜すもの、そして夜は抱い

て寝るものだ。

この前、私が青緑色の歯ブラシを使った時、ウィルちゃんは、私の歯ブラシを見ると

大声で泣いてしまった。夫にも同じ経験があった。やっぱり、青緑色の歯ブラシは、

ウィルちゃんだけしか使えないものなのだ。毎日見ていると、歯ブラシのことも私に

は普通に思えるようになった。でも、教会の聖餐式でのことだ。牧師さんがくすくす

笑っていた。最初は、笑った理由が分からなかったが、ウィルちゃんの手を見るとや

っぱり、四本の歯ブラシ持っていた！まだ長い時間がかかると思うが、ウィルちゃん

はきっと別の安心毛布をみつけることだろう。その日が来るまで私は、ウィルちゃん

を四本の歯ブラシと一緒に連れて歩くと言うわけだ。(Y)
