• 25He said to them, "How foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?" 27And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself. (Luke 24:25-27)

I. Teaching of Moses—Pentateuch

• 16And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die." (Gen 2:16-17)

• 21The LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. (Gen 3:21)

• 11Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God. (Heb 10:11-12)

II. The Prophets

• A. He is a king after God’s heart.• Not Saul• 4So all the elders of Israel gathered together and

came to Samuel at Ramah. 5They said to him, "You are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways; now appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have." (1Sam 8:4-5)

• 2He (Kish) had a son named Saul, an impressive young man without equal among the Israelites--a head taller than any of the others. (1Sam 9:2)

II. The Prophets

• A. He is a king after God’s heart.• But David• 14But now your kingdom will not endure; the

LORD has sought out a man after his own heart and appointed him leader of his people, because you have not kept the Lord's command." (1Sam 13:14)

II. The Prophets

• B. He has intimate relationship with us.• 16"In that day," declares the LORD, "you will call me

'my husband'; you will no longer call me 'my master.' (Hos 2:16)

• 25Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. (Eph 5:25-27)

II. The Prophets•B. He has intimate relationship with us.•7Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. 8Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear." (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints.) (Rev 19:7-8)•31"For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh." 32This is a profound mystery--but I am talking about Christ and the church. (Eph 5:31-32)

II. The Prophets• C. This Savior can only be God Himself.

• 14Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. (Isa 7:14)

II. The Prophets• C. This Savior can only be God Himself.• 6For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and

the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this. (Isa 9:6-7)

Conclusion

• 18This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. 19Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. 20But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said,

Page 20: Jesus of the Law & the Prophets Matthew 1:18-23

Conclusion• "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take

Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins." 22All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23"The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" --which means, "God with us." (Matt 1:18-23)

Conclusion

• Being born of Virgin Mary, Jesus is sinless, qualified to be our sacrificing lamb.

• The Word became flesh, He is Emmanuel, God is with us.

• He is our burnt offering, grain offering, sin offering, trespass offering, peace offering. His name is Jesus to deliver us from sin.
