Abbreviations used in this text may not befamiliar to all our readers. The following is a listof some that are used in our listings as well as a

brief explanation of some important terminology.Basically, there are three grading authorities thatwe have cited: AFA (Action Figure Authority,)DCA (Die Cast Authority,) and CGC (CertiedGuaranty Company.)

The above acronyms are typically followed by agrade. Condition designations sometimes used in

the grades are: “U,” which means factory-sealedpackage opened for the rst time, assigned anumber (which follows) denoting quality, andresealed, or ”Y” meaning yellowing. follow asimple scale of 2.0 (the lowest grade,) to 10.0,the highest. This number is then followed by aletter grade such as: GM (= Gem Mint,) M (=Mint,) NM (= Near Mint,), VF (=Very Fine, F (=Fine,) G (= Good.) Rating 1.0 or FR is Fair and PRor .5 is Poor. Examples of listings you might seeare “Graded 80 NM by AFA,” or “Graded U85VF by AFA.”

Toys serve many functions in our civilization. They can delight, inform, teach, entertain and even surprise. They can also be

nostalgic, sentimental, momentous and insightful. Toys come in various forms. They can be in the form of a physical object ordigital content or even an abstract exercise. Additionally, toys can be instructive, interactive, engaging or decorative. Regardlessof form or function, toys have been around since prehistoric times. They have been discovered in caves, pyramids, tombs andother archaeological excavation sites. They have been written about in some of our oldest literature. They have been around aslong as humans have been roaming the Earth. That’s because they have the dual role of providing entertainment while fullling aneducational role. They aid in child development, teaching kids physical and mental skills which are necessary later in life.

But toys are not just for children. No matter the age or gender or race, toys affect everyone in a cognitive way that may be uniqueand perhaps necessary for our species. I think the most important thing that the best toys do is that they bring people together.They make us engage, learn and share with each other. From dolls and action gures to board games and Legos, the most

memorable toys capture our imaginations while allowing us to celebrate with other people.

Over time, the most memorable toyshave also become the most collectible. In a way, collecting toys is like freeze-framing society and cutting a slice of the amber ofour anthropology. A toy collection is a time capsule of pride and satisfaction inside a vacuum of nostalgia and emotion wrapped ina veneer of historical context.

This catalog is both an acknowledgement and celebration of toys as a vital part of our lives and our world. The collection withinshowcases popular culture as depicted in television, lm, comics and children’s books. It features a unique variety of toys, comics,artwork and artifacts. Stellar among these offerings is the original 1978 Carbalon hand-painted hardcopy 15” Darth Vader gurewith Lightsaber, given by Kenner to Sears to photograph for the 1978 Christmas catalog, the rare Kenner Stretch Serpent, andan especially extensive Star Wars collection. Other offerings include original design artwork for children’s book covers and gamepieces, such as the Brady Bunch paper doll book design prototype, Pink Panther jigsaw puzzles, Bugs Bunny sticker books, andmany other one-of-a-kind items. Original rare 1950s baery operated Robby the Robot madeby T.N. Showa Nomura in Japan. This robot was inspiredby the classic Sci-Fi lm, Forbidden Planet (MGM, 1956).However, Showa Nomura decided to not obtain the requisitelicense to legally produce the robot. Hence, when the product

was released it did not carry the name “Robby,” but rathera generic “Mechanized Robot” nomenclature. Even so, itproved to be an extremely accurate reproducon of the lmversion of Robby. Standing approximately 12” tall, this robot ismade of n metal with a plasc dome. Some minor paint lossand evident signs of acid leakage in the baery compartment,which can be cleaned with a proper soluon. This is the original 1978 Carbalon hand painted

hardcopy 15” Darth Vader gure, with Lightsaber, given

by Kenner to Sears to photograph for the 1978 Christmas

catalog. At the me, the commercial gures were not

yet produced. However, Sears needed something to

photograph. This very gure was used and subsequently

seen in the 1978 Sears Christmas catalog. The actual

producon gures were based on this prototype, yet

only 12” tall. It is believed that there are only a couple ofCarbalon examples known to exist. This prototype came

directly from an ex-Sears execuve, who kept the gure

aer the catalog photo shoot was completed. He has

had the gure carefully stored ever since. Comes with

a signed Collecble Investment Brokerage Cercate

of Authencity. The gure exhibits several areas of

paint loss, most notably on the helmet and shoulders.

Otherwise, in excellent condion. This is the “holy grail”

of Star Wars collecbles.

Both Blacksparrow and the Bidder agree that any disputesunder these Condions of Sale, the subject maer hereof, the entering into, or any aspect of the aucon, shall be exclusively governed byCalifornia law, and that any and all claims or acons shall be brought and maintained only in Los Angeles County, California in a State or Federal

Court to the exclusion of any other venue, locale or jurisdicon. All pares submit to such jurisdicon.

1. Esmate Prices: In addion to descripve informaon, each entry in the catalog includes a price range, which reects opinion as to the priceexpected at aucon. These are based upon various factors including prices recently paid at aucon for comparable property, condion, rarity,

quality, history and provenance. Esmates are prepared well in advance of the sale and subject to revision. Esmates do not include the buyer’spremium or sales tax.

2. Reserves: The reserve is the minimum price the seller is willing to accept and below which a lot will not be sold.

3. Buyer’s Premium and Sales Tax: The actual purchase price will be the sum of the nal bid price plus the buyer’s premium of 18% of thehammer price. Hammer price is the nal bid amount called out by the auconeer when the gavel, proverbial or otherwise, comes down.

California sales tax shall automacally be added to the purchase price for CA residents, unless exempted.

4. Advance Inquiries: Bidders are encouraged to send inquiries pertaining to the aucon, as a whole and/or individual lot. You may also requestcondion reports. Blacksparrow strongly urges the bidder to resolve any quesons PRIOR TO BIDDING.

5. Bidding: Property is auconed in consecuve numerical order, as it appears in the catalog. Blacksparrow shall determine all opening bidsand bidding increments. The auconeer will accept bids from those present in the salesroom or absentee bidders parcipang by telephone,Internet or by wrien bid le with Blacksparrow in advance of the aucon. The auconeer has the absolute discreonary right to reject any bidin the event of dispute between bidders or if the auconeer has doubt as to the validity of any bid, to advance the bidding and to determinethe successful bidder in the event of a dispute between bidders, to connue the bidding or to reoer and resell the lot in queson. In the eventof a dispute aer the sale, Blacksparrow’s record of nal sale shall be conclusive.

6. Internet Bids: Blacksparrow is pleased to partner with iCollector to provide online bidding in real-me. However, Blacksparrow is not andcannot be responsible or liable for any problems, delays, or any other issues or problems resulng from use of the Internet generally orspecically, including but not limited to transmission, execuon or processing of bids. On some occasions beyond the control of Blacksparrow,the iCollector bid soware or the Internet itself may not physically keep up with the pace of the aucon. In order to help avoid disappointment,Blacksparrow recommends placing a realisc absentee bid as early as possible.

7. Successful Bids: The proverbial fall of the auconeer’s hammer indicates the nal bid. Blacksparrow will record the paddle number of thebuyer. Winning bidders shall be noed with an invoice within 48 hours aer the conclusion of the aucon.

8. Cercate of Authencity: For each auconed lot, Blacksparrow will supply a documented cercate with the ocial Blacksparrow stampand logo. This cercate will be signed by an authorized Blacksparrow execuve.

9. Payment: Payment is expected in full within 7 calendar days of the sale, or within 5 calendar days of the invoice date, whichever is later.Acceptable methods of payment include cash, personal check, cashiers check, money order, credit card (VISA, Mastercard, Discover, AMEX),bank transfer, and PayPal. Other forms of payment may be accepted. Please consult a sta member.

10. Shipping: Buyers are responsible for arranging shipping and for all shipping costs. As a convenience, shipping for small items may be handledby Blacksparrow via FedEx. For oversize items, a third party shipper is recommended. Buyers may use any shipper of their choice. Blacksparrowcan recommend local shippers if needed.

11. Buyer’s Remedies: As these are rare collector pieces, all sales are nal. In the unfortunate event that there is a problem with the condionof an item when it is delivered, Blacksparrow will collaborate with you to resolve any shipping and/or condion issues. Note that all maers
