Background and HistoryDuring his high school years Kaska was the only protégé of famous Hollywood composer-

arranger Vic Schoen (arranger for the Andrew Sisters, Irving Berlin,Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, DannyKaye, Ella Fitzgerald, andDinah Shore, to name a few).He came to Boston to studyFilm Composition at BerkleeCollege of Music. While inBoston, he formed his own jazz orchestra, playing the music of Stan

Kenton. His big band arrangements have been played by the Harry James Orchestra,Boston Big Band (recorded on CD), the Buddy Rich Ensemble at Berklee and sever-al other big bands throughout the country.

Kevin Kaska was introduced into the Boston PopsOrchestra at the age of 21. John Williams approved his

work and he was asked towrite for the orchestra.He was commissioned in 1997 tocompose a twenty minute workfor narrator and orchestracommemorating the 150thanniversary of Thomas Edison’s

birth called The Wizard of Menlo Park. This work was premiered by the Boston PopsOrchestra conducted by Ronald Feldman on Father’s Day, 1997 with a lighting showaccompanying the music. Alvin Epstein acted in the role of Thomas Edison.

In 1996, the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s Campaign 2000 commissioned Mr.Kaska to compose a new fanfare; the result was BSO 2000 Fanfare. He was also askedto write a new arrangement of the Star Spangled Banner for Seiji Ozawa and theBoston Symphony Orchestra brass and percussion section for the opening of a NewEngland Patriots football game. In addition to composing, Mr. Kaska has orchestratedoff-Broadway musicals for Pan Asian Repertory Theatre Company.

In 1998, Varèse-Sarabande Records asked Mr. Kaska to re -orchestrate the music to Superman the Movie for an album with theRoyal Scottish National Orchestra conducted by film composerJohn Debney (the score and parts to most of the music had been lost).

Kaska has conducted numerous concerts includingalbums with the London Symphony Orchestra atAbbey Road Studios, and is music director andconductor of the Boston Metropolitan Orchestra. In1993, he produced and directed his own show at theBoston Conservatory of Music entitled The Music ofAndrew Lloyd Webber and Stephen Sondheim.

In 2000, Korea’s leading male pop vocalist Dongryul Kim asked Mr.Kaska to orchestrate and conduct his music for an album with theLondon Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios. To this day,more than 1,000,000 of these CDs have been sold.

In May of 2000, Mr. Kaska conducted the Boston Metropolitan Orchestra in a concertthat will appear in history books around theworld – Summon the Legends. Jazz legendsMaynard Ferguson and Arturo Sandovalappeared on the same stage with the BMO atthe Berklee College of Music performancecenter. This ground-breaking concert was asellout, with people traveling from aroundthe country to attend.

He has also given clinics on orchestration and film music, most recently to a master classat Berklee College of Music and the University of Southern California.

In 2002, Mr. Kaska was asked to conducthis orchestra, the Boston MetropolitanOrchestra and Choir to commemoratethe grand opening of the $50 millionMary Baker Eddy Library in Boston.

The performance was videotaped and broadcast on the Internet.

Mr. Kaska has produced many albums for Boston classical-jazz labelDenouement Records, he is currently their composer-in-residence. Inthe fall of 2000, Kaska produced an album for Boston Symphony Orchestraprincipal harpist Ann Hobson Pilot. In spring 2001, he produced an album with theOld South Brass, Organ, and Timpani ensemble, in which four of his compositionsare featured. Old South Church is the second oldest church in the United States.

In 2002, he produced an album of American music with the Boston MetropolitanOrchestra entitled New England Landscapes. The next year, Kaska produced an albumwith Boston pianist Louis Stewart.

Film company Communications For Learningcommissioned Mr. Kaska in 2001 to compose andconduct a score to the documentary film BearingWitness: American Soldiers and theHolocaust. Boston Symphony cellist RonaldFeldman was soloist.

In 1999, Kaska produced an album with the London Symphony Orchestra at AbbeyRoad Studios with Ronald Feldman conducting. It consists of a Harp Concerto

Schorer. John Williams’ Essay For Strings and Trumpet Concertowere also recorded with Grammy-award winner ArturoSandoval, solo trumpet.

In 2000, The Scottish Rite Freemasons of the Northern Jurisdictioncommissioned Mr. Kaska for an orchestral work entitled Fraternal Journey that

was synchronized with avideo commemoratingthe organization’s history.This celebration concertwas per fo rmed withthe Millennium 2000Orchestra and broadcaston cable. Mr. Kaska iscurrently in negotiations

with the Scottish Rite Freemasons to produce an album this year of his music withthe London Symphony Orchestra.

Mr. Kaska composed a Triple Concerto for the award- winning,Grammy-nominated Eroica Trio. It was premiered withHans Vonk and the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra,November 2001.

Kevin Kaska’s compositions have beenlicensed by the Bose Corporation®to demonstrate the quality of thecompany’s speakers.

Kevin Kaska was asked tocompose music for the motionpicture “The Fallen Ones”(starring Casper van Dien, RobertWagner, Tom Bosley). The scorewas recorded with the SofiaMetropolitan Orchestra inEastern Europe.

Film composer John Debney asked Kaska to orchestrate hismusic into a concert choral symphony based on the themeshe wrote for the Mel Gibson film, The Passion of the Christ(Academy Award nominated score). The Passion Of theChrist Symphony was premiered in Rome with the SantaCecilia Orchestra and Choir in July of 2005.

Kevin Kaska composed the haunt-ing score to the dramatic film‘Jump’ to be released January, 2008,starring Patrick Swayze. Worldrenowned scoring mixer, ShawnMurphy, engineered the score.

In 2006, Kaska was asked tocollaborate with JohnDebney to co-compose thescore to Lair, the videogame. The soundtrack wasrecorded at Abbey RoadStudios with a 90 pieceorchestra.

In 2007, he wasasked to helporchestrate thescore toTransformers,the video game.
