Welcome… Week 2 Term 2!
Welcome back to Term 2! Students returned happy and ready to go! Thank you!! Last Wednesday we welcomed our new students and new staff. There were 13 new students and two new teachers. We held a mihi whakatau, which is a semi-informal way of coming together to acknowledge our new people. Our two new teachers are Mrs Ros Nicholas in team Pono supporting teaching and learning in Rooms 12 and 20. Mr David Woods has joined team Kauri in Room 2 and has replaced Mr Morgan Wilson who has left for a building apprenticeship.
Lost property This is now housed by Rimu block and if your child’s gear is named it will get back to them. We will only be keeping it for a few weeks then moving it on. We gather way too much in a term and it smells and creates time managing it off site. Please consider naming all gear. Te Kohanga Reo Situated towards the Clark Road end of our grounds is a Kohanga Reo, which is a completely separate entity to the school. Our land and buildings are Ministry of Education owned and we are merely the tenants. Please note unless your child is at the Kohanga it is not an open space for people to enter and play in.
Home and School Disco On Friday 24th May the Home and School team will be hosting a disco at Kamo Intermediate. The theme is ‘Glow like a Star’ to welcome Matariki and to just have fun. It is from 6pm to 8pm. Students must be signed in and signed out. Tickets are $3.00 per student and glow products are available for sale starting at $2.00. Treats will also be available on the night. A sheet will be sent home soon. We have also asked for parent help so if you are interested please let your child’s teacher know or let them know at the office. Please do not feel your child has to have the expense of a new outfit with stars. Each child is a star in their own right!
Board of Trustee Elections If you are interested in joining in our Board of Trustees team we welcome you to step forward. Our Returning Officer, Mrs Batten, has sent out forms and I know she would, like I, welcome any questions or expressions of interest. We appreciate time is so precious nowadays, however you truly are supporting a worthwhile cause… education. The board has eight meetings per year and training is available. It comes with remuneration, however it will not reach millionaire status.
To all our mothers and grandmothers… The team truly wishes you a Happy Mother’s Day on Sunday! You are the first teacher of your children and for that we admire and respect the amazing work you have done long before we get on the scene! From that home made card, to the gesture of breakfast in bed, to new slippers, to takeaways for dinner or those simple but powerful words of I love you — whatever the gesture is, I know how much your children love you when I talk to them!!
Winter Sports Well done to all those who are playing Winter sports. I appreciate that you may have some early starts or chilling late afternoons on the netball courts but the benefits to your child are numerous. Thank you to the parents supporting teams in coaching roles. It’s great to see it all go!

Friday – Teachers Union Meetings On Friday, teachers will be attending Paid Union Meetings at Kamo Intermediate and I would like to stress this will not affect you. Children will be managed at school. I do need to let you know good teachers like Mr Morgan Wilson left due to the workload and pay conditions. Teachers are still intent on improving conditions so that we can attract more quality people to the profession and keep the great teachers we have!
Healthy Lunchboxes The staff would like to remind all parents that we aim for lunchboxes to have healthy food. We recommend fruit, not just for fruit break, but another portion for lunch as well. A sandwich is good fuel at lunchtime. Cakes and biscuits are not recommended to be daily food. Packet foods are also recommended in moderation. Please support your child’s brain and body health with a healthy lunchbox. There are plenty of ideas online and you could start with typing in ‘children’s healthy lunchboxes’ and start planning.

Team Pono are asking all parents from across the school to help support our PMP (Perceptual Motor Programme) which is run Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday Mornings from 9 - 11. The programme is to help all students develop their perceptions, in other words how a child reacts to their environment. That is the way their body and brain work together to learn perceptual knowledge and judgement or, how students move, react to different situations, remain balanced, can eye tracking etc. This programme is vital for future success in learning and one that our teachers have absolute faith in. We just require parental support to help make it a success. You would be required to support a classroom teacher by working with a very small number of children at one of 5 activities in our school hall. Therefore you would become an expert at one station. You would need to give basic instructions to the students all of which are set out on a simple to follow card. We require 5 parents per morning and are desperate for your support. If you can help us make a difference with our youngest leaners on any or all morning sessions we would love to hear from you.

What’s in the Show? The show is made up of a collection of photos, videos and live material to showcase what has been happening at Kamo Primary for that week.
Where is it Based?
We now have a purpose built studio. The news crew man all the equipment such as the teleprompter, the computer, the audio and video mixers to run the show.
How Do You View It?
Every Thursday afternoon the show is uploaded to our school website (http://kamoprimary.school.nz/) and added to our News page.
Can Anyone View It?
Yes, if they can log on to our school website then they can view it.
Is There any Notification? Yes, an alert is sent out when the news has been uploaded to our website to all parents who have the school app.
I’m an Eco warrior. I use honey wraps so there is zero waste in my lunch box, no gladwrap and no plastic wrap. You can use reusable shopping bags. I use a metal drink bottle so then there is no rubbish in the ocean. Jayce Attwood
I am an Eco warrior by having no plastic bags. Having no rubbish I can have a zero waste lunch, by having honey wraps and having a metal drink bottle. I don’t throw away plastic . Sea animals will die because turtles think it’s jelly fish, and they eat it. If I find rubbish at the beach I pick it up and when I get home I put it in the bin. Iranui Moriarty
