Good morning. Welcome you all to Kyoto University School of Public Health. My name is Teeranee Techasrivichien. In short, Jar. ��I am currently an assistant professor of dept…and also assist the School with activities of international office. although introduced by Prof. Koizumi earlier, I would like to briefly introduce the educational programs which are master of public health. Doctor of ph and phd, particularly to international students.

• A program that provides students with an opportunity to obtain two master's degrees within a period of two years (or more), namely a Master of Public Health (MPH) from KUSPH (home university) and a related degree from partner university (see slide XX onward).

What is Double Degree Program (DDP)?

1. Shortens time: It usually takes 4 years to obtain 2 master's degrees, however, this program enables students to complete 2 degrees in 2 years (or more), maximizing time by offering intensive courses, a summer-school program, a credit transfer system, and a joint research.

2. Partial scholarship: When up-taking the DDP, KUSPH students will also be officially enrolled at partner university, however, they do not pay tuition fees at partner university. The students pay tuition fees only at KUSPH (home university).

3. Personal growth: The DDP enables candidates to acquire the ability and skills to plan, manage, solve problems, think analytically and develop a broad understanding of his/her chosen field of study.

• As explained above, intensive workload within short timeframe; 2 sets of coursework (with some credit transferable) and 2 different theses, one submitted to home university and a separate one submitted to partner university.

• Only students enrolled at KUSPH (home university) are eligible for the DDP

• Under the DDP, students pay all required fees (application, tuitions, etc.) only at home university

• Under the DDP, students are benefited from tuition fees exemption at the partner university

• Students are required to meet home and partner university’s degree requirements; coursework, thesis, exam

• A maximum of 10 credits can be transferred from partner university to KUSPH– Provided that courses are viewed equivalent by

the relevant course instructor– Acknowledged by KUSPH Education Committee– Both Core or Elective classes

• A separate thesis must be submitted to each institution

In order to be eligible for the DDP, students must:• Be officially registered at home university• Have an appropriate academic record,

reference from supervisor, etc. • Possess the necessary language abilities

– English proficiency: TOEFL, IELTS

• Students are enrolled as full-time degree students at home university; MPH at KUSPH is 2 years

• Students will stay at the host university for 1 year (2 semesters)

Travel to host university around august of year 1

• KUSPH-MPH: In principle, the students can meet all of the requirements within 2 years.

• The period of enrollment at home universities VARIES by degree. This depends on the requirements of that particular degree of your home university. (ie. if a peer-reviewed publication is required; the faster you could publish, the faster you could graduate!)

• Some previous DDP students could completed both degrees within 2 years and a half.

• Some students could take longer than 3 years.

To fulfil degrees’ requirement, students arerequired to submit 2 different theses, one toKUSPH (4 credits) and another to homeuniversity. The theses could be of relatedtopics, coming from a single researchproject. KUSPH’s thesis is a research report.We do not require ISI-indexed publication,though it is strongly encouraged!

Credit transfer

To reduce the students’ workload, KUSPHaccept 10 credits transferable from yourpartner university. Provided that the coursesare viewed comparable by the KUSPH courseinstructor and the Education Committee (教務員会). Documents required are1. your official transcript from partner university2. the syllabus of that particular subject

Scholarship & Financial supportTuition fee at partner university is waived by theuniversities' DDP agreement. You will pay tuitionfees only at KUSPH. You DO NOT have to paytuition fees at partner university. Currently,KUSPH does not have financial support for air-ticket, accommodation costs, and monthlyallowance. For these, the office will help you applyto JASSO scholarship when you submit the DDPapplication.
