for a solution to a health
and safety issue affecting
the safe operation of their
forklift trucks. During wet
weather the forklift trucks
were carrying water into the
building resulting in unstable
performance, poor traction
and sliding under braking.
To resolve this issue,Larsens recommended a
Degaoor FB system for
installation to all areas
around roller shutter doors
to collect and capture run

excellent slip resistance
of the FB system, the
new installation was an
instant success. Smurt

One of the largest and best known
Irish manufacturers of dairy
products, urgently required a solution
to allow them to refurbish their
milking processing areas, where the
existing ooring had failed.
Erosive substances contained in
milk, including sugars and lactic
acid, as well as nitric acid used in
cleaning products had an extremely
damaging effect on the tiled
nishes and concrete substrate
beneath within the milk processing
areas. Si gnicant areas were
badly eroded and steel plate was
being utilised as a temporary nish.
However, processing gaps are very
short, so any solution had to be
extremely fast to install and cured
ready for use almost immediately.
Requirements were discussed with
Larsen Contracts Ltd, a specialist
resin contractor, whose immediate
advice was to remedy the problem
with an ultra tough, slip and
chemical resistant, innovative and
fast curing Degaoor FB system.
The Degaoor FB ooring solution
is designed to offer extreme
durability and slip resistance
without compromising the visual
aesthetics, so it is a perfect ooring
treatment for heavy trafcked
areas, where durability, safety, ease
of maintenance and pleasing visual
effects are of great importance,
such as food and drink production,
pharmaceutical and laboratory
areas as well as commercial
kitchens, to mention just a few.
Larsen removed the defective tiles
and repaired the eroded concrete,
where in some places the damage
exceeded 600mm in depth. The
repaired area was then screeded
with a 4mm Degaoor FB system
in saffron yellow to cleverly mask
any discolouration that may occur
unplanned due to lengthy exposure
to nitric acid.
The project was completed within
very tight weekend installation
windows, with all phases being
ready for full use early on a Monday
morning. The client was delighted
with the results and numerous
As part of the major development at Elm
Park – Dublin, Michael McNamara & Co
created a modern, low-level retirement
village of smart, individual apartments.
Run by the local authority, every care has
been taken to ensure that the site offers
high level of safety and an excellent
standard of living. As part of the site
handover, concerns were raised that
the open grade asphalt walkways could
become slippery during poor weather.
Larsen Contracts were asked to review
the site and following a consultation
period; Larsens took just 2 weeks toinstall over 2000 sq m of a decorative
Degaoor FB system to all walkways
and access passages. The FB system
has an incredible 2-hour cure time
which allowed rapid installation,
without any signicant impact on the
handover schedule.
Speaking on behalf of Degaoor,
Commercial Director James Wright
said, “We are delighted to have been
selected by Larsen Contracts to assist
with this high prole project. The Elm
Park development typies well designed,
safe and modern urban living and our
FB system has fully complemented the
overall architecture of the project”.
Over the recent winter period, an
interesting new benet of the Degaoor
FB system was noted. Following a
period of heavy snow – the facilities
management team were amazed at the
speed at which the snow cleared fromthe Degaoor treated areas, in most
cases a whole day earlier than anywhere
else on the site! This benet reduced
the need for salting the pathways,
saving the time, cost and mess usua lly
associated with clearing snow and ice.
Larsens completed the
project in one day, with the
areas being returned to full
operational use just two
hours after the installation
was complete.

benets that the new ooring has
delivered.
Speaking on behalf of Larsen
Contracts, Mark Murphy said ‘This
was an extremely challenging
project due to the high level of
substrate erosion. Our teams
had to cut away signicant
areas of substrate and complete
complex surface preparation and
treatment prior to repairs and nal
screeding. Working in partnership
with Degaoor helped us develop
a solution to this longstanding
problem and we are looking
forward to working with other dairy
operators to help solve similar
problems.’

McKeon Construction
Limited were looking for a
durable and innovative resin
waterproong system for
one of their clients, namely
Dublin City University
(DCU), who needed to
refurbish a multi-storey car
park where the existing deck
coating had started to fail.
The main DCU campus is
an attractive, vibrant and an
incredibly busy environment
that is exposed to heavy
trafc every day, so McKeon
Construction had to nd a
decking system that would
perform brilliantly in this
pressurised environment,
and that would also
complement the innovative
design and the modern feel
of the campus.
McKeon Construction
Ltd discussed the client
requirements with Larsen
Contracts Ltd, a specialist
resin contractor, and their
immediate recommendation
was to use a Degaoor CP
TD system.
The Degaoor CP TD
system is designed to
offer the outstanding
exibility and performance
required for top decks ofmulti-storey car parks.
The unique formulation
allows installation to occur
extremely quickly, with the
main system of 2-3mm
being installed in a single
application process.
Despite bad weather
conditions during the
February installation, the
unique two-hour cure time of
the CP TD system (which is
unaffected by temperature)
made it possible for Larsen
Contracts to install the new
decking within just two
days, resulting in much less
disruption than would have
Gleesons Mall is an exclusive town centre
shopping development in Tullamore,
Co Offaly. Due to very high footfall, some
refurbishment was needed to update and
refresh a 100 sqm thoroughfare stretching
from the front of the mall right through to
the rear car park. It was essential that
this busy shopping centre remained openduring the day to prevent any loss of trade
during the upgrade, so all works had to be
completed overnight, ready for full use the
next morning.
A Degaoor Stone Carpet system was
chosen for the project using natural tones of
cream and beige to complement the existing
décor of the mall. As well as being visually
strong the system is incredibly functional,
with exceptional durability to cope with
heavy footfall and a slip resistant nish
for safety.
Using their excellent project planning skills,
coupled with the outstanding 2 hour cure
time of Degaoor, Larsen managed to
complete the installation by working from
6pm – 8am over 5 consecutive nights toensure that it was business as usual for the
15 retail outlets.
All Degaoor systems maintain a
guaranteed bond to existing ooring nishes
that include concrete, steel, marine ply and
in this case tiles. Following full preparation,
the system was installed directly over the
existing tiles saving time, cost and disruption
- allowing the project to be completed in a
very short space of time.
McCarren Meats is a family run meat processing business
based in Co. Cavan. Operating since 1863 the company,
who specialise in pork and bacon, were looking to
completely upgrade two cold storage rooms and one
processing room, to include the installation of a resin oorto the existing concrete.
Larsen Contracts Ltd were asked to assist with the project
and had no hesitation in recommending a Degaoor FB
system, an ideal solution to the cold e nvironment and
limited timescale available for installation. Eddie O Brien,
Contracts Manager at Larsens said “Degaoor resins
cure fully in no more than 2 hours at temperatures down
to -40°C, making them perfect for this project. We opted
for the FB system as it is particularly hardwearing, slip
resistant and has an excellent track record in the food
industry.”
To ensure that McCarren’s busy production plan was not
disrupted, the project was completed over two separate
Sundays. Due to the unique 2 hour cure of Degaoor, each area was ready for full use on the Monday morning.
In total, 250 sq m of Degaoor FB were installed in a
striking russet red nish, with oor to wall coving to match.
Speaking on behalf of Degaoor, Technical Manager Linda
Milbank said “The FB system was developed to overcome
the time limitations that most food processing plants have
to complete refurbishment works and repairs.
“The unique MMA resin technology we use delivers a total
cure (both physical and chemical) within just 2 hours of
installation, after which the product is ready for full use.”
Following the recent acquisition of Hillgrove Inn in
Dingle, new owners The Ash family decided that a total
refurbishment was needed to modernise the dated interior,
with the intent of making Hillgrove Inn a landmark venue
for people living in a wide surrounding area.
The Inn had not been refurbished since 1994, so a
major re-think was required to create a high quality
attractive venue. New general manager Kieran Ash
chose a stylish, understated colour scheme in creams, golds and greys, complemented by a fantastic state of
the art lighting system.
The new bar is the focal point of the venue’s new design,
so Larsen Contracts Ltd were asked to source an
innovative, but practical oor nish to surround the bar
area. Larsens opted for a Degaoor Stone Carpet system
for 2 main reasons – it ba lanced safety and slip resistance,
with a very innovative look.
The stone carpet system is also very effective against
glass abrasion, incredibly durable and easy to clean
and maintain, which is perfect in this busy, bustling
environment. The system was installed within the agreed
2 day timescale, including thorough preparation of the
existing substrate.
Eddie O’Brien, Larsen Contracts Manager said
“Fortunately with our experience and Degaoor products,
we were able to full all the n eeds of the client, including
design and functionality”.
occurred using a standard
resin based decking system.
The project was completed
according to specication,
within budget and on
time. DCU and McKeon
Construction are delighted
with the installation and the
numerous benets that the
Degaoor CP TD systemhas delivered, including:
outstanding durability,
exibility, a totally seamless
and impervious nish,
outstanding slip
resistance and visually
pleasing aesthetics.
Speaking on behalf of
Larsen Contracts, Eddie
O’Brien said: ‘The Degaoor
CP TD system enabled us
to complete the installation
within the short window
of time available (weather
wise). Traditionally, we have
been unable to complete
car park projects outsideof summer months due to
weather and temperature
constraints, but this new
system has made it possible
for us to complete car park
installations all year round.’
