    tool post and holder, Fig. 3, permit the topsurface of the slide to be cleared forclamping down work to be milled. Forthis use, the spindle rotation is reversed,the work is fed with the cutter teeth push-ing toward the travel and pressure, andthe speed is reduced greatly. About 60r.p.m. works well with small cutters. It i simportant that the work be fed to the cut-ter uniformly throughout the length of thecut. Any irregularity in the feed is likelyto cause breakage.

    Bluing and BlackeningBrass WareBrass articles may be given a blue orblack color by first cleaning and then im-mersing them in a solution made by dis-solving hypo, H lb., and lead acetate, 2 oz.,

    in 1gal. of water. More lead acetate maybe added to deepen the color and to speedup the action. To use the solution, heat ita.host to the boiling point and immerse
