push-ing toward the travel and pressure, andthe speed is reduced
greatly. About 60r.p.m. works well with small cutters. It i
simportant that the work be fed to the cut-ter uniformly throughout
the length of thecut. Any irregularity in the feed is likelyto
cause breakage.
Bluing and BlackeningBrass WareBrass articles may be given a
blue orblack color by first cleaning and then im-mersing them in a
solution made by dis-solving hypo, H lb., and lead acetate, 2
oz.,
in 1gal. of water. More lead acetate maybe added to deepen the
color and to speedup the action. To use the solution, heat ita.host
