Hypersensitivity syndrome A multiorgan drug-induced reaction
Aromatic anticonvulsants phenytoin, carbamazepine, and barbiturates
lamotrigine, minocycline, dapsone, allopurinol, and sulfonamides, abacavir and zalcitabine in HIV-infected patients.
Widespread erythematous eruption that may become purpuric or lichenoid
Fever, facial and periorbital edema, lymphadenopathy, leukocytosis (with atypical lymphocytes and eosinophils), hepatitis, nephritis or pneumonitis.
Reactivation of herpes viruses, especially of herpes virus 6, has been reported to be frequent in this syndrome.
Eosinophilia Normal value: 0~5%
Allergy and drug hypersensitivity: Asthma, hayfever
Parasitic infections Dermatologic disorders
Dermatitis herpetiformis, pemphigus, and erythema multiforme cause eosinophilia.
Hypereosinophilic syndrome persistent eosinophilia of longer than 6 months
associated with organ damage the heart, CNS, skin, and respiratory tract are
commonly involved
