Introduction of Letter of Thanks
Letter of thanks is a formal and polite way to express one’s appreciation. Though a phone call or face-to-face oral expression can transmit your thanks, letter of thanks can show your attention to the help or gift from others.
According to the situations it concerns, letter of thanks can be classified into two types, letter of thanks for the help or gifts from others and letter of thanks for a job interview one has just experienced.
Contents of Letter of Thanks (for the help or gifts from others )
Express your thanks for the help or gift you received. Thank you for the book you gave me for my birthday. Specify the importance of the help or gift. You know I have been interested in backpacking since our scout troop went
on its first camping trip when I was 10 years old. Now that I plan to spend a week backpacking during spring holidays, this book will be really great for me to have.
Mention your present situation relevant to the help or gift. I am getting along quite well with my new job though it is very demanding.
Thanks again for the help or gift. Again thank you for the book you sent me. I will read it with care as I
prepare for my backpacking trip. Thank you for thinking of me on my birthday.
A Sample Letter of Thanks
Dear Aunt Sharon Rose, Thank you so much for the CD you sent me for Christmas. I hope
Uncle Mike and Aunt Pam are well. Maybe next Christmas when I go to my father's for the holiday you could come down and visit us. I haven't seen you since we were waiting in the Cincinnati Airport for a connection flight to England, which was nearly two years ago!
It reminds me that we should stay in contact and make the effort to see one another more often. It's too bad that the only time we call on one another is on holiday and sometimes not even then; after all, we are family. I was really thrilled about the Chemical Brothers' CD. It is a really great album.
I had to work at Christmas and when Dad called I told him and he was all shocked and appalled. I guess he never had to work on holiday.
I just wanted to thank you for thinking of me. I know that you are a busy person and I really appreciate your taking time to look for a CD for me.
Love, Amanda

June 24,2000 Ms. Angela Chastain
Director of Human Resources Modern Advertising, Inc 345 Center Drive Centertown, PA 55555
Dear Ms. Chastain: Thank you for meeting with me last Thursday, August 8, to discuss
the position of copywriter at Modern Advertising, Inc. I was quite impressed with the enthusiasm you displayed for your company's future and the helpfulness of your office personnel. Learning about Modern's present media campaign for the Pennsylvania Sausage Company was exciting. Modern Advertising is a company with which I would like to be associated.
Your description of the special qualifications needed for this position was especially interesting. My ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines has already been proven in the advertising position I held with the Slippery Rock Rocket. As I stated at our meeting, I enjoyed the challenge of a competitive environment in which success is based on achievement.
I would also like to mention that since our meeting I have received the College Reporter's Award for an article of mine published in the Rocket. This is my first national award, and I am quite encouraged by this approval of my work.
Again, thank you for considering me for the position of copywriter. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,
Rebecca Leddyfern
