GLENDORE ZONING/KIND ERGARTEN ENROLMENTS

The Outlook estate is zoned for Minmi Public School. Part of the Maryland Estate is zones each for Glendore and Maryland public schools.

The many hours that our staff spend both before and after school, meeting, planning, assessing and revising is evidenced in our improving academic results. We are blessed to have such a wonderful educational team of non-teaching and teaching staff at Glendore Public School.

NAIDOC WEEK AT GLENDORE PUBLIC SCHO OL

NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Its origins can be traced to the emergence of Aboriginal groups in the 1920′s which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Indigenous Australians. NAIDOC Week 2018 will celebrate the invaluable contributions that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have made and continue to make to our communities, our families, our rich history and to our nation.

Under the theme - Because of her, we can! - NAIDOC Week 2018 will be held nationally from Sunday 8 July and continue through to Sunday 15 July. We encourage all students and their families to participate in the celebrations and activities that take place across the nation, or locally in Wallsend and Newcastle during NAIDOC Week (8 -15 July).

Glendore will be celebrating NAIDOC Week in Week 1, Term 3. All parents/Caregivers, family and friends of our Indigenous and Non-Indigenous students are invited to join our cultural day celebrations to be held on Wednesday, 25th July. The celebrations will commence at 12.15 with performances by our Aboriginal Dance Group, Sista Speak Group, School Choir, Kinder and Primary Drama Group. Students can come out of uniform in the colours of the Aboriginal Flag or the Torres Strait Islander Flag (red, yellow black or blue, green, black, white). Students will then complete 2 cultural activities in their class groups. Activities should conclude by 2.30. K-2 students will have the opportunity to have their face painted. If you do not wish for your child to have their face painted, please write a note to the class teacher.

Our indigenous families and students are invited to stay for PLP reviews until 4.00 with school staff. We will be launching our mgoals with parents and this will be a fantastic opportunity for parents and families to learn about mgoals. Further information about mgoals can be found at: http://mgoals.com.au/

With mgoals, students, teachers and parent community can access a free on-line goal setting tool. The tool provides a personal and private space for students to record their goals for living and learning. The tool enables parents and teachers work collaboratively to support a child’s aspirations. It also allows for information to transition with a student as they move from year to year or if they happen to move schools. Most importantly it is easy for everyone to use.

We will also be holding a Lolly Guessing Competition. It will be 50 cents a guess. We have 2 jars of lollies to be won. Our student leaders have been selling guesses at recess outside the Kinder rooms. This will also be available to families on NADIOC day at school. Money raised will be donated to the Fred Hollows Foundation. One of the main driving principles of this foundation is to end avoidable blindness and improve the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. $25 can restore a person’s sight. We hope you can join us in this community event!

MURROOK CULTURAL CENTRE

On the 19th and 20th of July, Murrook Culture Centre will be having workshops that include Boomerang throwing, dancing, art and a bush resource walk. These activities go for an hour with a cost of, $10 for adults, $5 for children 13 years and under or $25 for a family of 4. Murrook Culture Centre is at Nelson Bay RD Williamtown.
