Diploma in Managerial Public Relations

Background

Public Relations is considered as proactive, dynamic and as having strategic functions to connect with the interests of an organisation and its publics.

It is now recognised that the needs and values of Public Relations are widely practiced as a vital function of management and it is seen as the overarching communication factor that enables organisations to achieve corporate objectives. It is widely recognised that PR operates in a very challenging environment, which is why many professionals from various !elds are shifting to practicing PR although not having received an appropriate background in PR or in communications as a whole.

This executive programme is designed, created and prepared by the London School of Public Relations Jakarta. It is designed for professionals who need suitable PR programmes in order to enhance their competencies in practicing Public Relations. It is an intensive course which focuses on building experience and giving an understanding of PR applications, with complete theoretical support.

The course programme consists of three levels: Introductory Course, Intermediate Course, and Advanced Course.

This course is an introductory programme designed for persons who are starting out in a PR Career or for those aspiring to become PR Professionals. This course will be taught by experienced communications professionals who can expertly impart their knowledge and experience.

General Objectives:

Higher Certificate in Public Relations

This programme focuses on PR designed for participants who have been in the PR !eld for three years and who have been working as a PR Executive /Account Executive or for those who have been newly promoted as a PR Manager or Account Manager. It is also suitable for those who have attended the Introductory Course: the Training and Development Programme Leading to the PR Profession.

This course equips participants with an in-depth understanding of the functions of Public Relations, with an emphasis on the strategies and analytical thinking required for achieving an organisation’s goals.

General Objectives:

a. To be able to gain an in-depth insight into PR functions and responsibilities that will address clients’ expectations and relationships.

b. To equip students with techniques on how to formulate strategies which are e"ective and relevant to the objectives and goals of the organisation.

This course is designed for those who need to acquire advanced PR skills. It is a class for enhancing understanding of industry issues. The sessions will help participants to think globally in terms of business development, whilst also reviewing the skills needed to handle crisis situations. Topics include Strategic Issues Management, Crisis Communication, International Public Relations and Integrated PR.

General Objectives

a. To be able to identify corporate issues that would impact the organisation, in areas pertaining to economic, social and public spheres as a whole.

b. To gain insight into the latest strategic thinking in addressing global issues.

Public Relations activities involve some or all of the following:

- Programme Planning Analysing problems and opportunities, de!ning goals, recommending

and planning activities, and measuring results.

- Writing and Editing Since Public Relations tasks often consists of trying to reach large

groups of people, it relies mostly on printed materials – shareholders’ reports, annual reports, news releases, feature articles, !lm scripts, speeches, booklets, newsletters, etc.

- Media Relations Developing and maintaining a good working relationship with the

media, which includes applying knowledge of how local and national newspapers, magazines, radio, and television function.

- Corporate Identity Developing and maintaining an organisation’s identity via corporate

advertising, presenting the company’s name and reputation rather than its products.

- Speaking Communicating e"ectively with individuals and groups in meetings,

presentations, and platform participation.
