Jessica Mauboy fi rst appeared on our screens back in 2006, when she auditioned for Australian Idol. Bright-eyed and just 16 years

old, she stood against a dusty Darwin backdrop and belted out a Whitney Houston tune that captivated the judges and changed her life forever. Since then, all of Australia has watched Jessica fl ourish into a superstar and become a household name.

“My life has been such an incredible journey since I stepped onto the Idol stage over 10 years ago,” she says. “So many amazing things have happened and my life has taken a journey that I could never have dreamed of.”

Some of the highlights in her singing career include releasing three studio albums, winning two ARIA Awards, travelling around Australia for her fi rst solo headlining tour, performing at the Commonwealth Games Handover Ceremony and representing Australia for a Eurovision audience of two million.

Jessica has also branched out from the norm, starring in two fi lms, becoming a Target ambassador

Jessica Mauboy took a break from filming upcoming TV series Secret Daughter to

talk about fashion, family, heritage and her journey towards living life like no other.

and releasing her fi rst fragrance, Be Beautiful. Despite her whirlwind schedule, Jessica always manages to fi nd time for the simpler things in life, such as meeting Beyoncé, Oprah and President Barack Obama.

Presidential introductions and her long list of accolades aside, Jessica says that her transformation from a teenager to an adult has been as standard as the next person’s, even when growing up in the public eye.

Her love for Mariah Carey, Kevin Hart and cute nicknames from her mum make Jessica just as normal as any young woman. Her family, friends and long-term partner Themeli Magripilis have been a crucial part of her life and perhaps the reason she’s stayed so grounded and authentic.

Jessica says that her stage persona completely diff ers from the way she interacts with family and friends. “I always enjoy heading back to Darwin to escape the industry. It’s where I can totally relax and be myself,

hang out with my friends, go fi shing with Dad and enjoy all the amazing nature that Darwin has to off er.”

Jessica carries her Indigenous heritage with immense pride and is thrilled to be an ambassador for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, celebrating her culture every day and in every way.

“You have to know exactly where you have come from to know where you are going and you have to be authentic,” she says.

Jessica’s passion and dedication is evident in her song-writing process, “It’s like you are a vessel channelling some greater creative force,” she says. “Always start with an open heart and dig deep.”

This heart-on-sleeve approach is one of the many reasons Australia has fallen in love with Jessica Mauboy. Whether she is performing on the silver screen or on stage for millions, or simply visiting her family in Darwin, Jessica maintains her authentic approach to life.

“I always try to stay true to myself and be who I am and I don’t mind having a laugh – even if it’s at my own expense!”

Tilly SmithThe graceful and effervescent Tilly Smith shone in our Like No Other fashion shoot. She took a moment out of her busy schedule to speak to us about her promising career and how she stays grounded.

H O W D I D Y O U G E T I N T O M O D E L L I N G ? I guess it’s always been a bit of a dream. I had done little pieces here and there, but about two years ago, in my home town of Byron Bay, I was scouted by my current agent. So far it has been the most wonderful adventure! I love to travel, and I feel so lucky that it now comes as part of my job.

W H AT T I P S D O Y O U H AV E F O R A S P I R I N G M O D E L S ? I think the biggest and most important thing is to stay true to yourself. It’s easy to get caught up comparing and feeling the need to change to fit in, but the truth is that you will stand out for your differences. Embrace them. Your little quirks are the most beautiful part of you.

H O W D O Y O U R E M A I N G R O U N D E D A N D I N D I V I D U A L? I try to always make time to switch my work mode off and do things I love and get inspired by. Whether it be a jump in the ocean, reading my book, or learning something new, that really makes me happy. Keeping family close is a must. They keep me grounded for sure.

FA S H I O N I T E M Y O U C A N ’ T L I V E W I T H O U T ? Leather jacket.

B O H O O R C L A S S I C ? I’m going to say classic, but being from Byron Bay, I’m probably a lot more boho than I realise!

FAV O U R I T E B E A U T Y P R O D U C T ? Rosehip oil – I use it every night before bed. I swear by it!

B E S T H E A LT H T I P ? Be consistent. Make time to keep your body active and filled with goodness whenever possible.

GUILT, GLAMOUR AND GIVING IT ALL – SHOW AND TELL’S BROOKE BAYES CANDIDLY

REVEALS HOW SHE MAKES HER FABULOUS LIFE WORK.

SHOW AND TELL BABES KATIE ‘MONTY’ DIMOND,

STACEY MORLANG SULLIVAN AND BROOKE BAYES.

BROOKE BAYES

Losing her mind several times a week is just one of the ways Brooke Bayes copes with juggling the demands of

being a busy working mum and wife. “I try really hard not to take it out on my

husband James,” the 33-year-old laughs. There’s no such thing as a typical day for

the honey-blonde beauty, who co-owns and co-runs popular women’s website Show and Tell with besties Katie (Monty) Dimond and Stacey Morlang Sullivan.

The Show and Tell network connects thousands of women across Australia and covers content such as babies, breakdowns, marriage and career, while also featuring high-profile celebrities on their video couch segment.

But it doesn’t stop there: Brooke also produces Kiis FM’s 3pm Pick Up show and raises her precious daughter Edie, who’s nearly a year old.

“A couple of months ago, I interviewed Lisa Wilkinson on Show and Tell. I was struggling with the whole baby-work

thing and she said it never gets any easier – you just have to lower your expectations, which is hard because you’re used to working a certain way,” says Brooke.

The entrepreneur always knew she would be a working mum, but had no idea it would come with so much guilt.

“I feel guilty about something most of the time,” she confesses.

“My husband jokes I feel guilty about feeling guilty – I do! When I’m working, I think I should be spending more time with Edie and when I’m with Edie I remember things I should be doing for work – it’s non-stop but I’m getting better,” Brooke says.

While she admits to sometimes feeling overwhelmed, the bubbly businesswoman backs her decision to be a working mum.

“I’m so proud of Show and Tell. I think it’s good for Edie to see me working hard

and one day I’d love her to be a part of that.”Brooke also wants her wee bub to grow

up knowing the importance of being happy with who she is.

“I’m in a place where I’m happy to be like no other,” Brooke says, smiling.

“I’m comfortable in my own skin and if I ever have days where I feel down about myself, I think, ‘I grew a little person,’ and that’s amazing! I don’t allow myself to dwell on imperfections,” she says.

A self-confessed shopaholic, Brooke says that she often finds ways to express self- empowerment and confidence with her fashion choices.

“I just love playing around with clothes and dressing up. What you wear says a lot about you. It’s a real expression,” she says.

Since having Edie, Brooke’s style has become more casual chic.

“I live in a dress. I have more dresses in my wardrobe than anyone I know! I love

a good shift dress and a nice print. I’m really into off-the-shoulder dresses at the moment, and of course I can’t go

past a classic black.”What’s her absolute must-have item? “I couldn’t live without a leather jacket.

They just go from season to season. A lightweight one in Summer and a heavier one in Winter – perfect over a maxi and boots or tight jeans.”

“I’m so proud of Show and Tell. I think it’s good for Edie to see me working hard and one day I’d love

her to be a part of that.”

Money may not be able to buy happiness, but health sure can! Three leading Australian experts share how to turn your

slouch into optimum health in no time.

HAPPYhealth yourself

HANGER BE GONE!It’s time to ditch the restrictive diet and cue the pudding! Popular Australian nutritionist and cookbook author Lola Berry says you can actually eat yourself happy. The food-lover says we need to scrap the guilt and concentrate on eating wholefoods that increase energy and leave us feeling good.

“The body thrives off food in its most natural state. Things such as walnuts, avocado, salmon, eggs and blueberries are fantastic brain food, while raw nuts are proven mood boosters.”

As if that’s not enough of a reason to celebrate, she says you don’t have to forgo delicious desserts.

“Look at ways to sweeten treats with natural alternatives such as bananas, dates, Stevia, maple syrup or honey,” she says.

When it comes to her top tips for healthy, happy eating, Lola says it’s important to be mindful.

“For me, happy eating comes from joyfully creating meals from wholefood ingredients and sharing those meals with the souls you love the most.”

GUT TO BE HAPPY! They say that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. But according to Teresa Cutter, founder of The Healthy Chef, that saying could actually be true for all of us. The health expert says having a healthy digestive system is key when it comes to increasing happiness.

“The digestive system is the engine to our entire being. Its primary role is to break down and absorb food, providing the body with the fuel it requires to function optimally,” Teresa says.

The chef says a lousy-functioning tummy can lead to constipation, bad skin, bloating and even depression.

Teresa’s advice? “Take care of yourself by eating a wholefood diet, take a good probiotic, exercise, have plenty of water and avoid processed foods.”

Studies show that people who practise the art of positive thinking tend to live happier, healthier and fuller lives. For this reason, leading Chinese Medicine doctor and fertility specialist Nat Kringoudis is keen to encourage women to embrace their individuality.

“Being like no other is important. We’re taught to fit in but seeing things others can’t and being unique is a special gift,” Nat urges.

“It’s about not being afraid to take risks, admit defeat, fail, succeed and continue to love life for all that it is.”

But as a busy working mother, Nat knows all too well how hard it is to prioritise happiness. She recommends asking for help when times are tough.

“I lean on my tribe. We’re not supposed to go it alone. I have a supportive network and community that helps me, as I do them. It’s a beautiful place to be.”
