KASHI
The holiest of the holy sites in the east is Kashi orBanaras as
it is known today. Kashi is held as the coreof the universe. Nobody
knows exactly when it wasactually created; people say it was before
time. It was
created as a place of knowing, and the whole town wascreated in
a certain form in seven layers. One had topenetrate through these
seven layers. The city wasconstructed as a tool for enlightenment
where if aperson went through the seven layers, by the time he
reached Manikarnik, he would be a realized being.Before leaving
the body, he would have already risenbeyond the play of five
elements.

Kashi Vishwanath Temple
There was a time in this country when peoplebelieved if you just
enter this city you will be
liberated, because it was such a powerfulspace. Above all, the
heart of the city wasVishwanath the temple was destroyed longtime
ago, but it is supposed to have been
consecrated by the Adiyogi himself.

Manikarnik GHAT
Another name for Kashi is Maha-smashana which means
Greatcremation ground and the central point, the core ofKashi
isManikarnik, where at least one corpse will always be burning.
Thepoint is that a necessary atmosphere was created for those
whodied and for those who were burnt there because people were
looking at life and death as a means of rising beyond the
elementalplay, the elemental hive created in the form of individual
body andthe cosmic body. If anybody penetrated these seven layers,
for surehe would have risen he would be beyond the play of
fiveelements. Nowadays it has just become a belief, but back
then,there was a live process of Enlightenment and the city was
constructed as a tool for enlightenment where if a person
wentthrough the seven layers, by the time he reached Manikarnik,
hewould be a realized being.

On a Pournami, some 2500 years ago, something verytremendous
