PASTOR’S MESSAGE

First Reading — Peter is an eyewitness: The Lord is risen

(Acts 10:34a, 37-43).

Psalm — This is the day the Lord has made; let us re-joice and be glad (Psalm 118).

Second Reading — All who are baptized, set your hearts on heaven (Colossians 3:1-4)

Gospel — Three witnesses, Mary, Peter, and John; each responds to the empty tomb (John 20:1-9)

READINGS FOR TODAY

SPIRITUAL CORNER

Pastor

THE PASCHAL CANDLE

• “The Paschal candle should be prepared, which for

effective symbolism must be made of wax, never be artificial, be renewed each year, be only one in number, and be of sufficiently large size, so that it may evoke the truth that Christ is the light of the world. It is blessed with the signs and words prescribed in the Missal or by the Conference of Bishops (from the 1988 Circular Letter on the preparation for Easter published by the Congregation for Divine Worship).”

• A glass chimney is recommended to shield the flame of

the Paschal Candle at the Easter Vigil liturgy from the time it is lit until it is safely standing in its place in the church.

THE EASTER DISMISSAL WITH ALLELUIAS

• The dismissal, from the Easter Vigil through the Octave of

Easter, ending with the Second Sunday of Easter, inclusive, should be followed by a double Alleluia! preferably sung. The same is true for the liturgies of Pentecost Sunday and its Vigil. The double Alleluia is not added at other liturgies during the Easter season

THE SACRED

PASCHAL TRIDUUM

Happy Easter. Christ is Risen Alleluia.

Easter date is not fixed as that of Christmas. The Catholic Church has determined the date of Easter since 325 AD. In that year, the Council of Nicaea established that Easter be held on the first Sunday after the first full moon (when night and day are of equal length). This is worked out by ecclesial geographers. Easter is the greatest Christian celebration. Easter season is from Easter Sunday until Pentecost Sunday. Jesus conquered death by rising from the dead. His resurrection is the hope of our own resurrection

In the Gospel of John today we encounter Mary of Magdala going to the tomb of Jesus, finding it empty, and then running to tell the disciples. Peter and an unidentified disciple, almost certainly John, get to the tomb. Peter goes in and sees that the body is not there. There is no comment about the faith of Peter. The other disciple, probably John, goes in and the Gospel says this: Then the other disciple also went in, the one who had arrived at the tomb first, and he saw and believed.

You and I are called to believe and we receive our faith through these early witnesses. This faith must become our own and it must become so powerful that our lives are transformed. We know from the Scriptures that faith may not take away all of our defects or even keep us from all sin, but it does show us the path on which we are to walk: complete trust in the Lord Jesus and a faithful following of His teachings. Christ is risen! Let us walk together with Him into the Kingdom.

Think of what is above, not what is on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” Jesus rose from death and from his tomb with a glorious body. Easter, therefore, means rising from inglorious (sin, shame, and loss of honor) to glorious (newness, dignity, and honor). We lit the paschal candle from the flame of the sacred fire. The light of the Paschal candle represents the light of Christ who dispels all darkness and lights up the world. Jesus says, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but have the light of life” (John 8:12). Easter means surrendering every cloud of darkness hovering over us to the light of Christ in order to walk in the light of life.

To know Jesus and experience the power of his resurrection makes us Easter people. As Easter people, we do not stay in hiding. We are to go out to preach and witness our experience of the life and light of Christ to others. As Easter people, we are bearers of the life and light of Christ which we must share with others. Happy and Spirit-filled Easter to you all!

Una vez que entendemos que ningún daño definitivo se puede causar a los que apuestan radicalmente por el bien, incluso más allá de su propia vida, entendemos también la enseñanza del Apóstol, en la segunda lectura de hoy: hemos resucitado con Cristo, tenemos ya una razón profunda y una fuerza invencible que nos permiten "buscar los bienes de allá arriba". Si la vida sin esperanza es un largo prefacio de infierno, la vida con la esperanza puesta en el Resucitado es una degustación de cielo . Como el discípulo amado hoy somos invitados todos a ver y creer. Palpemos a través de los testigos inmediatos, gocemos a través de sus ojos asombrados, cantemos a través de su voz jubilosa: Es verdad;

EASTER SUNDAY

“…He went about doing good and healing all those op-pressed by the devil, for God was with him.” (ACTS 10:38)

We can’t give what we don’t have. Open your heart to receive God’s love, mercy and forgiveness. Then, show the same to others. As God’s adopted sons and daughters, we are made in His image and likeness. As Pope Benedict XVI says, “we are made for greatness.” Let our lives reflect His light to others. Pray to live a grateful and generous life. Strive for greatness! We are made for more! We are made for God!

Pope Francis’ Quotes on easter

1. Easter is the feast of hope

“Dear sister, dear brother, even if in your heart you have buried hope, do not give up: God is greater. Darkness and death do not have the last word. Be strong, for with God nothing is

lost!” (Pope Francis, Homily, April 2020 )

2. Easter celebrates the glory of love not of applause and

audiences

“At Easter, God finally reveals His glory: He takes away the last veil and astonishes us as never before. We discover, in fact, that God’s glory is all love: pure love, mad and unthinkable, beyond every limit and measure…True glory is the glory of love, because it is the only one that gives life to the world. Certainly this glory is the opposite of worldly glory, which comes when one is admired, praised, acclaimed. The glory of God, on the other hand, is paradoxical: no applause, no audience. At the center there is not the ego, but the other. (Pope Francis, Angelus,

The Compelling Story of the First Christians

Acts is the story of how a few Christians,

empowered by the Holy Spirit, were chosen to bring

Christ and the Good News to the ends of the earth.

They faced secular forces, internal strife, and hostile

crowds, and despite all of this, they brought the

kingdom of God to a broken world and the love of

God to the hearts of men.

Acts: The Spread of the Kingdom traces how the gospel witness spread outward in waves from Jerusalem, and reveals how the seeds of Church structure and authority took root. Presenter Jeff Cavins shows how the joys and struggles of the early Christians in living the life of Christ apply to us today.
