Fire Detection SystemsThe fire detection system is installed for monitoringthe engine room, engine control room and accommo-dation areas for outbreak of fire. The system consists ofa control panel and smoke, heat and/or flame detectorsand manual fire alarm boxes. Choice of optimumdetector types is made depending upon the area to bemonitored.Intrinsically Safe Explosion-Proof/Flame-Proof Fire Alarm SystemsThe system is used for monitoring the hazardous areassuch as car deck, cargo pump room and paint stores.The system uses highly reliable fire detectors approvedby the various national approval institutions.

火災探知システム火災探知システムは、エンジンルーム、エンジンコントロールルーム、および居住区域の火災を監視。火災受信機および煙式、熱式、炎式感知器、手動火災報知機などにより構成され、感知器は監視される場所に最も適したタイプを採用します。

煙管式火災探知システム煙管式火災探知システムは、CO2消火システムと組み合わせて各船倉の火災を監視します。各船倉内の空気はファンモーターにより、常に探知機へと吸引され、表示窓を通して各船倉内の状態を確認できます。火災発生時には、該当する地区表示灯が点灯します。消火は該当区域のバルブを開放し、CO2を放出します。

Smoke Sampling TypeFire Detection SystemThe smoke sampling type fire detection system isnormally installed in combination with the carbondioxide extinguishing system for monitoring the cargoholds for smoke and extinguishing fires in theseconfined spaces. Samples of air are Continually drawnfrom each cargo hold by a fan and led into the smokedetection panel where the attendant can check forpresence of smoke through the indication windows onthe panel. In case of fire, the lamp corresponding to thearea in Fire lights up. For extinguishing the fire, carbondioxide is discharged into the zone by opening the 3-way valve.

SAFE SAILING Fire Detection and Alarm SystemsThe fire detection and alarm system consists of fire detectors and/or manual fire alarm boxes, allconnected to one fire alarm panel which upon receipt of a signal gives audible and visible warningsof fire outbreak, indicating the zone from the fire signal is being transmitted. NOHMI fire detectorsand manual fire alarm boxes are equipped with individual response indicators (LED). By adoptionof the two-wire system, it is possible to use different types of fire detectors and manual fire alarmboxes together in a common loop. The ionization and photoelectric smoke detectors are equippedwith a sensitivity adjusting switch, and the system with excellent cost performance is realized.

Fire Alarm PanelsThe Fire Alarm Panel gives fire alarms withboth visual and audible indication of the zonein fire on receipt of signals from differenttypes of fire detectors or manual fire alarmboxes. It is provided with a function to switchover the power supply to an emergency powersupply in case of the mains power failure, andvarious check functions such as troublemonitoring and testing. The Fire Alarm Panelis designed based on the fail-safe concept.

The Fire Alarm panels with “A” following the modelnumber are designed for 4~12 zones, and those withsymbol “B” are used for 16~28 zones. Both models areavailable as standard products by unit of four zones(4,8,12...). The Fire Alarm panels have been approvedby government authorities and ship classificationsocieties of various countries as well as for useonboard Japanese ships.●The photograph shows Model FAC 552A/B (Concealed mount-ing)(The Fire Alarm panel with symbol “B” is larger in height by 260mmdownward as compared with the one with symbol “A”.)

Annunciator (Fire Indicator)/Model FIP(Exposed and Concealed mounting)On receipt of a signal from the Fire AlarmPanel, the annunciator indicates the fire zoneand gives an audible and visible alarm. Timer Box/Model FYCSmoke detectors installed in a workshop or thelike may possibly give false alarms due tosmoke generated during such work processes aswelding. SAFE SAILING Carbon Dioxide Extinguishing SystemThe carbon dioxide extinguishing system is a fixed system to extinguish fire by smothering actionwith CO2. It is a most effective system for protection of such areas as engine room, pump room,paint store and cargo holds. The smoke sampling type fire detection system used with the carbondioxide extinguishing system continually draws air from each cargo hold and checks for thepresence of smoke by means of the smoke detection panel, which initiates an alarm on detection ofsmoke. The smoke sampling type fire detection system is designed to have a wide range ofmonitoring areas extending up to 30 zones. Combined with the carbon dioxide extinguishingsystem, it provides more effective fire protection.

また、煙管式火災探知システムは、ファンモーターでカーゴホールド内の空気を常時吸引しながら探知機で煙を検出・警報します。30地区用まで広範囲な対応力を持ち、CO2消火システムとの組合せで、より万全な防災システムの構築を実現します。

炭酸ガス(CO2)消火システムは、CO2を消火剤として使用。窒息効果により消火を行う固定式消火システムです。エンジンルーム、ポンプ室、ペイントストア、カーゴホールドなどの区画に対し、きわめて効果的な消火システムです。

●As a fire extinguishing agent. CO2 is noncorrosive andcauses no chemical reaction on metals, electrical insula-tions and oil, nor any mechanical damage to appliedsurfaces. CO2 does not deteriorate with age and cantherefore be stored for an indefinite time.●CO2 leaves no residue to be cleaned up after extingui-shment of fire. Therefore the equipment that has notbeen damaged by fire can be re-used at once.●NOHMI’s unique actuating method using gas pres-sure Actuating cylinder enables simple and reliableactuation of the carbon dioxide extinguishing system.By the use of copper tube for the control lines, the costof the actuating system is extremely low.●Approved by principal countries’ government autho-rities and ship classification societies in the world.NOHMI carbon dioxide extinguishing systems havebeen installed over three thousand ships.Engine Room and Pump Room etc. (Total FloodingSystem)The total flooding system is designed to discharge atleast 85% of the total quantity of CO2 required for theprotected space within two minutes so that any fires inthe space can be extinguished at once. The total flood-ing system is the best method which allows the carbondioxide extinguishing system to fully exhibit its advan-tages. The semi-total flooding system is also available.The semi-total flooding system is suited for the cargospace loading the self-propelled vehicles, and is capableof discharging two thirds of the total quantity of CO2

required for this particular space within ten minutes.Cargo Holds (Manual Release System)Nature of fires can vary with cargos and possibly rangefrom surface fires to deep-seated ones. The manualrelease system is designed to individually release theCO2 cylinders one by one or by group in sequencedepending upon the state of fires.

3-way/Distribution valves forCargo HoldsThe 3-way manifold valve is usedas selection valve in the manualrelease system for the cargo holds.It is also used as manifold valvewhen the carbon dioxide exting-uishing system is combined withthe smoke sampling type firedetection system. In the latterinstallation, the air sampling intakesinstalled in the cargo holds areconnected with the smoke detectionpanel through the manifold valvesfor continuous monitoring of thecargo holds. In case of fire, as thelever on the valve is turned, the airsampling intake (also serving asdischarge nozzle) is connected withthe CO2 cylinders through the valveso that CO2 can be discharged intothe affected zone.

Discharge NozzlesDischarge nozzles are installed todevelop a uniform concentration ofthe extinguishing agent in all partsof the protected spaces. Model SAdischarge nozzle is used in suchareas as engine room and pumproom where the total floodingsystem is installed. Model SMdischarge nozzle is used for themanual release system installed inthe cargo holds. When used in theSmoke Sampling Type FireDetection System, Model SMdischarge nozzle also serves as airin-take.

CO2 CylindersThe CO2 cylinders used in NOHMIcarbon dioxide extinguishing sys-tems passed the inspection pre-scribed by “High-Pressure GasControl Law”. The approval marksKTY and are stamped on eachcylinder. Cylinders conforming tothe standards of other countries(BS, BV, NSI Standards, etc.) arealso available. 68L and 82.5L typecylinder can be used.

Actuating Cylinder CabinetsThe actuating cylinder cabinet isinstalled as the actuating device ofthe total flooding fire extinguishingsystem. The actuating cabinet isavailable in two types i.e. forexposed type and concealed type,use of which is determined accord-ing to the each ship. The cabinetshousing for actuating cylinders areequipped with limit switches forstopping the fan and for initiatingthe evacuation alarms. The cabinetsare installed near the entrances tothe protected spaces, the fire controlcenter or the CO2 bottle room.

Models KC and FB SelectionValvesThese selection valves allow rapiddischarge of CO2 within spacessuch as engine room where the totalflooding system is installed. Thevalve is remote opened by gas pres-sure from the actuating cylinder. Itis also possible to manually openthe valve. The selection valve ishoused in selection valve box. Thisbox installed onboard ships subjectto NK, JG and ABS Rules is nor-mally kept locked by means ofpadlock to prevent from tampering.For this box installed onboard shipssubject to other rules, switch isinstalled on their door to soundalarm without fail before discharg-ing CO2.

Model PH 14B Cylinder Valvemodel PH 14B cylinder valve isinstalled on each CO2 cylinder andcan quickly be opened by gas pres-sure from the actuating cylinder orby manual operation.

Delay Discharge UnitNK, JG, ABS, LR and NV Rulesrequire that an audible evacuationalarm be given for a duration of atleast 20 seconds before dischargingCO2. The delay discharge unit holdsup CO2 discharge for more than 20seconds after releasing the actuatingcylinder.

Smoke Sampling Type Fire Detection System●In the event of fire, the correspondingindicator lamp lights up immediately,allowing for identification of the firezone. Smoke can be seen through smallwindow of each detection unit by lightfrom LEDs. In order to make it easier tosee even a very small amount of smoke,the illumination intensity of the LED canbe changed by switches.●Each detection unit of the panel isequipped with a sensitivity switch so thatany change in the detector sensitivityresulting from its contamination etc. canproperly be compensated.●Additional annunciators can be con-nected.●Two types of exhaust fan motors are

available for selective use depending onthe ship’s size.●Samples of air can collectively bedrawn from all cargo holds, eliminatingtime loss.

Automatic Sprinkler SystemsThis system is installed in accommodation spaces and

other service spaces on the vessels such as passenger ships and car ferries. The sprinkler system is most effective in extinguishing fire in its early stage.

Statistics show that about 70% of all fires have been extinguished by less than three sprinkler heads.

客船、カーフェリーの居住区域・業務区域などに設備。初期消火にきわめて有効なシステムです。統計では、火災の約70%は、3個以下のスプリンクラーヘッドで消火しています。

Pressurized Water Spray SystemsBesides its installation on car decks principally loading automobiles,

the water spray systems can also be used for cooling the upper decks of LNG/LPG carriers with water spray,

and for fire extinction of engine room and pump room. By discharging water in the form of fine fog, the water spray systems secures Excellent cooling and smothering effects on oil fires as well as ordinary fires.

主に自動車を積載するカーデッキに設置するほか、LNG/LPG船の上甲板用散水冷却やエンジンルーム、ポンプ室などにも使用できます。噴霧状に散水することで、冷却・窒息効果に優れ、一般火災のほか、油火災にも有効です。

System Outline1. During the normal supervisory state, the pipings

extending up to the sprinkler heads are kept filledwith water under pressure by fresh water pressuretank.

2. When a fire breaks out and the heat sensitive elementof a sprinkler head reaches a specific operatingtemperature (normally 72°C), the sprinkler headopens and discharges water.

3. The flow of water though the sprinkler piping causedby water discharge from the sprinkler head isdetected by the automatic alarm valve, which in turnsends an alarm signal to the fire alarm panel.

4. At the same time, the pressure within the pipingdrops. This activates the pressure switch on the freshwater pressure tank, which then starts the pumpmotor. Thus, water is continuously discharged fromthe sprinkler head to extinguish the fire.

2. 火災発生により、スプリンクラーヘッドの感熱部が規定の温度(通常72℃)に達すると、シール部分が開き自動的に散水します。

3. 散水により、自動警報弁が流水現象を検知。火災受信機に作動信号を送ります。

4. 同時に配管内の圧力が低下。清水圧力タンクの圧力スイッチが作動し、ポンプモーターを起動。スプリンクラーヘッドから継続して散水・消火します。

2. The area of fire occurred to be identified.3. The Selection valve for the affected area is opened.4. As the valve is opened, the pressure in the water tank

falls, causing the pressure switch on the tank toactuate, this starts the pump motor, and water isdischarged from the spray heads.

2. 火災発生区画を確認します。3. 該当区画の分配弁を開放します。4. 開放によって、清水圧力タンクの圧力が低下し、圧力タンクの圧力スイッチが作動。ポンプモーターを起動して、スプレイヘッドから放水を開始します。
