ABOUT ME 7

I am Mees Daalder, a recently graduated Dutch Industrial Design Engineer that has always loved creative problem solving. Not only in the eld of product design, but also in graphic design, my other passion. Besides this, I am a part-time music maniac, food fanatic, architecture admir-er and I love to travel as well.

Recently, I finished my Bachelor in Industrial Design En-gineering at the Technical University of Delft, where I cur-rently study my Masters degree in Design for Interaction. Here, I have also been the head of Graphic Design at the Public Relations committee where I coordinated the differ-ent graphic designers and worked together with a wide variety of clients. Recently, I did an internship at Public Cinema. An exciting period of time in which I improved my skills and condence as a professional designer.

In this assignment a cross media product was de-veloped for the multi-media, multi-national Liberty Global.

MediaSpot is an add-on for Liberty Global’s Horizon service, which focuses on linking mov-ies, tv-series, documentaries or other media like e-books and audio to real world locations. The user can save locations they find interesting (while consuming the media) for future city trips. When visiting the location, MediaSpot notifies you with the option to view the associated scene. Back home, MediaSpot uses pictures taken with a de-vice with gps-functionality to provide the user with reccomendations associated with these locations.

For this project a final presentation movie was made that explains the product. This movie can be found on the CD.

The company was so enthousiastic, that they are now searching for a way to incorporate this prod-uct idea into their Horizon service.

During my stay at the ELISAVA university in Bar-celona, one of the courses I followed was Glob-al Projects II; an interdisciplinary course where a product, graphic and space designer worked together to desgin a product that did not fit within the excisting portfolio of the given company. In my case: a watch for the shoe brand Munich.

First, thourough research was done about the company. After, I developed a logotype for the Chronos watch that fit the target group and the look of the watch itself.

Besides this, the dial plate was designed. Also the graphic applications of the space design were de-veloped and templates for the presentations and reports were made.

The idea behind the product is that the customer can design their own watch. Three different sizes are available for a large target group. First you can choose the lower band, then you will pick a watch that fits this and finally the upper band will complete the watch. Where the lower band will use a strecthy material, the upper band will close using magnets.

Here, you can see how the three different parts are combined into the complete product. The up-per bands can be folded around the lower one and will close using the magnets.
