MELQART has accumulated largeexperience in the wind energy sector, and isone of the most qualified Brazilian Companyin this specific field.

MELQART has participated actively in thecoordination, management and supervisionfor the implementation of 7 (seven) WindPower Plants in the Northeast of Brazil with atotal generation capacity of more than 230MW of renewable energy.

MELQART has developed together withsome partners an Integrated Biomass Plantspecially for some regions in Africa forgenerating energy and production of pelletsand ethanol using as feed stock a crop calledEnergy Cane”.

The “Energy Cane” is a variety of sugar canethat has more biomass and less sugar in itscontent. This material has a high density thanthe sugar cane per hectare and has highresistance to plagues and diseases.

Working with respect to the highest elevated ethics values,innovating in our solutions, bringing best resultsand satisfaction to our clients and co-workers,always engineering for a better world.

In the light of the booming Renewable Energymarkets, specially Wind Sector, in all locationssuch as Africa, Middle East and others placesaround the World, MELQART is able to assist agreat number of companies in these thrivingareas due to its experience and know-how.

It`s no secret that Renewable Energy markethas been flourishing in these areas, creatingseveral opportunities, Our objective is to buildstrategic alliances and provide engineering andmanagement services related to such kind ofprojects. In this line MELQART can provide thefollowing services:

a) Preparation of the preliminary wind studiesaimed to identify the best potential areas for thewind farm,

b) Site survey for selection of suitable land withenough area for the implementation of desiredwind farm;

c) Identification of the requirements to obtain allthe licenses needed to implement the wind farmsuch as environmental licenses, land grant andlease agreements, grid authorizations andothers necessary for the performance of theproject;

d) Preliminary evaluation of the wind dataavailable and also forecast based on wind datacorrelation with other sources;

e) Evaluation of transmission and distributionexisting lines on the area of interest toimplement the project;

f) Identification of the necessary requirements toobtain the Power Purchasing Agreement (PPA)with the Local Government or other officialauthorities;

g) Conceptual Design for the Wind Farm includ-ing the qualification and anemometric analysisof the "site", defining the optimal positioning for

deployment of wind measurement towers, prep-aration of the “micrositing” (best position of eachwind turbine in the selected area);

h) Conceptual Engineering Design including thepreliminary evaluation of the geological andtopographical data available for the selectedarea, preliminary evaluation of the road access,preliminary evaluation of the electrical designinside the wind farm necessary to collect andtransform the power generated by the windturbines and connect it to the grid;

i) Evaluation of the best wind turbine applicableto the site conditions due to the local conditionsconsidering several requirements such as winddata, velocity of wind, direction of the wind,humidity, temperature and others applicable;

j) Preparation of the Pre-Feasibility report in-cluding a cost estimation for the implementationof the Wind Farm;

Development, in cooperation with AGN, of an Integrated Biomass Plantutilizes the “Energy Cane” as the feed stock for energy generation, pelletsand ethanol production.

The rational of using “Energy Cane”, a variety of sugar-cane, for energy production is based on the following main

characteristics of the specific type of Biomass, in brief:

High adaptability of Energy Cane to Tropical Zones;

High content of fiber and high productivity per hectare cultivated, almost 3

times the yield of Eucalyptus;

Crop intrinsically resistant to diseases;

Possibility of placing the power plants, where the energy is needed, closer to

the consumer also in remote areas of the countries;

Possibility of integrate together with the energy the production of pellets and

ethanol at the same power plant;

Apart the fact that the utilization of “Energy Cane” as the feed stock for renewable energy production, will create a number of

agricultural and industrial jobs at countryside, will boost local and regional economies, decrease importation of fuels by the

production of ethanol and help curb global warming.

The utilization rates, also called Capacity Factor, are another relevant characteristic of the Biomass solution, especially in the

case of “Energy Cane” applications, that can reach 90%.

Because of their transient nature and variability of weather conditions, solar and wind energy cannot be used as base power

and are largely utilized in sophisticated grids where there are back up power plants that can take up to load on cloudy or

windless days. Biomass plants can operate 24 hours a day so ther can be used as base power.

Biomass electricity is cost-effective and practical, and it offers a realistic and sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. Biomass is

versatile and can also be used to produce ethanol to replace gasoline and diesel fuel, and as feedstock to produce pellets for

lower the emission of CO² in coal power plants.
