MHA Reads | ISSUE No. 1 | March July | A.Y. 20153ACALITMUS 2015 presents7 themes in 1With their concerted efforts focusing mainly on celebrating the value of obedience, respect, consideration, responsibility, honesty, faith, and love, all teachers, students, parents, and staff of the Manila Hankuk Academy once again joined hands together last April 10, 2015 to observe the annual Academic, Literary, and Musical presentations better known as the ACALITMUS.ACALITMUS fetched to life the various literary stories the students learned during the first half of the semester. This event paved the way for the young, spirited MHA kids to display their talents as several storybook narratives were brought to the school stage as moral-lessons-packed musical plays. The youngest bunch of Grade 1 students presented Goldilocks and the Three Bears with the aim of highlighting the value of consideration. Some of the songs they used were Goldilocks, and let Your Light Shine. Park Ha Eun, the main actor from Grade 1, said that they really did their best for their play.

The Grade 2 kids came up the stage with Love and Time accompanied by such familiar songs as Time After Time, Love will Find a Way, and Love will Never Fail. The Grade 2 performance tried to send the message that love always perseveres and that only time can see the value of love. Song Minseo, who played Love, said I was really nervous at the start of the play. As it went on, we just enjoyed it. I hope we were able to show the importance of love through our presentation.

The Boy Who Cried Wolf was the Grade 3 teams play. The story they presented tackled how honesty can positively impact the life of a child.

The IEP team, on the other hand, performed How Butterflies Came to be. The theme of their play revolved around respect.

MHA Reads | ISSUE No. 1 | March July | A.Y. 20154ContinuationGrade 4 and Grade 5 students focused their musical plays on showcasing obedience and faith, respectively. Grade 4s Lee Seo Yeon played the main protagonist for Obedient Kid. Her group included the song Listen and Obey to point out the meaning of obedience. The Grade 5 group had You Can Do It as their play using Faith as Small as Mustard Seed for their main song. According to Grade 5s Shin Hyung Min, their play made them appreciate faith even more.

The Grade 6 group presented A Doorway to the World, a story about responsibility. These students gave the audience a look at the life of Albert, a boy who spends hours playing computer games. Teacher April Liwanag, the English coordinator for Elementary, believes that ACALITMUS 2015 was a success. Apart from being enjoyable and inspiring, the different literary presentations truly magnified the significance of the Christian virtues in the lives of the young children and responsible parents alike, the ever-supportive teacher said. She added Im so proud of everybody that participated.Ray of SunshineSPIRITUAL RETREAT 2015`Elementary teachers at Manila Hankuk Academy work hard each day to teach and encourage young students academically, physically, emotionally, and most especially, spiritually. Aside from the daily academic teaching and learning programs, the school provides the students the opportunity to participate in a retreat experience to help them strengthen their relationship with God and allow them to get to know each other and their teachers better. Usually lasting two days or three, the spiritual retreat includes lots of time for praise and worship, prayer, group discussion, team building, fun and games, and delightful meals.

On March 22-23, soon after the school opened, the elementary students and teachers attended a two-day spiritual retreat held at Boso-Boso Higlands, Antipolo City. Teachers carefully planned prepared activities such as physical challenge courses, team sports, swimming, arts and crafts, and nature walk to help students develop their physical, social and team building skills.

However, the central focus of the retreat is on the students spirituality. This years theme is about giving God the highest honors which He deserves. The speaker was once again Pastor Kim Hong Tae, the school chaplain. Through his God-given message, children learn about obedience, faith, responsibility, and trust.

It is the parents and the teachers responsibility to lead the children to the Lord at their very young age. Just as what the book of Psalms say, children are like arrows in the hand of a mighty warrior. Wherever you shoot them to is where they will go. It is indeed important that as early as now they know God and fear God. Though they may be young, they should understand the pleasure and importance of giving God the highest honors even through the smallest acts they do. Truly, spiritual retreats are a powerful tool to make this goal come true.Teacher April Liwanag

Meet the MHA Pride:Seo YeonLast June 20, 2015, Grade 4 student Lee Seo Yeon brought home second place in the 3rd Philippine-Korean Speech Contest held at the Korean Cultural Center. Its time to get to know more about our little miss speaker.Seo Yeon delivered a speech about the most popular Korean food KIMCHI. Leading up to the contest, she paid special attention to her Korean pronunciation and practiced with her mom in order to master the pronunciation of sounds that dont exist in standard Korean language.

Seo Yeon also spoke about her life as a missionary kid and student ofn a missionary school. On an interview she shared, As an MK student, there were many times I felt unwell, and I owe so much to my friends and teachers who helped me through the hard times. I wanted to return the favor by winning the contest. In the future I hope to improve my skills further and work in a job where I can introduce the Korean language and culture to the Philippines.Manila Hankuk academy aims to provide students with opportunities to develop advanced language proficiency by offering Language learnings namely Chinese, Japanese, Filipino, and English. Still, MHA students feel at home because Korean language has been the primary language students would learn and treasure, and of course the Korean culture has never been taken for granted. Thus its given big importance.Congratulatory MessageJust a note to congratulate you on the outstanding presentation you made. I felt you addressed the subject with openness, honesty and sensitivity. I believe many of us now understand the importance of the basic food of Koreans KIMCHI You have done your best; its a proud moment for all grade 4 that you again got the second placer award. I am very thankful that you are in in my class.

Its your hard work and dedication which made you stand out. I am sure that if you continue performing like this, you can bag the first prize next time. I understand the hard work you put in. I wish you best for all your future endeavors, and I hope that you bring more laurels to MHA.Congrats for taking home the bacon! It makes me so happy to see you thrive in our class. I have every bit of faith in you that you will only continue to excel as the years continue. I could not be prouder of you for being named Winner. This is an extraordinary award recognizing an already extraordinary young student. Teacher Myrna Korean WarThe Philippines Part in theThe Korean War which began 63 years ago on June 25, 1950, remains a Forgotten War for most of todays 100 million Filipinos. The Korean War did not get much media attention unlike the other wars, but for the 7,420 officers and men of the Philippine Army that served in Korea from 1950 to 1955, and for those who actively supported our fighting men, the Korean War was probably the defining event of their lives. Freedom is not for free. It is paid for with the blood of fighting men and stained with tears of loved ones left behind. Both Filipinos and Koreans died during that war. The first hot war of the Cold War era--- remember the Korean War with sorrow and pride. It was not just a war between countries, however, it was our Fathers War. The freedom have we have right now was the result of their sacrifices.
