The District Environmental Engineer, TNPCB, Ariyalur welcomed The District

Collector, Government officers from various departments and the general public for

the meeting.

She informed that this public hearing meeting is on the project proposed by

M/s. The India cements Ltd., Dalavoi for starting a new limestone mine for their own

use. The total extent of the project is 74.81.0 Ha. with a maximum production capacity

of 2.34MTPA. This public hearing is being held as directed by the Ministry of

Environment, Forest & Climate Change Notification dated 14.09.2006 and amended

2009. She asked the general public to give their opinion on the environmental impacts

of the project. The entire proceedings will be recorded and send to Ministry of

Environment, Forest & Climate Change, New Delhi. She then asked the project

proponent to explain the project in a power point presentation and after that the public

can record their opinion related to Environmental impacts/issues due to this project

only.

Thiru. T. Balasubramanian, Joint President (Manufacturing) M/s. The India

Cements Limited, Dalavoi Welcomed the dignitaries on the dais and the general

public. He informed that The India cements was established in 1946 by two pioneers

Sri. S.N. Sankarlinga Iyer and Sri. T.S. Narayanaswamy. It has grown as south

India’s leading cement company with an install capacity of 16.0 MT. He informed

that this mining project is proposed in Periyathirukonam, Reddipalayam and

Edaiyattankudi villages. He gave a brief report on the production capacity and their

activities and various CSR activities carried out by the firm.

A power point presentation was given by Thiru. P. Ramasami, Assistant Vice-

President (Mines) in which he briefly explained about the salient features of the

proposed Periyathirukonam Limestone Mine of M/s. The India Cements Limited over

an extent of 74.81.0 Ha with peak production capacity 2.34 MTPA of ROM

Limestone at SF Nos. 3/1A, 1B1, 1B2, 1B3, 1B4, 2A etc., of Periyathirukonam

village, SF Nos. 353/2A, 2B, 3A, 3B, etc., of Reddipalyam village and SF Nos. 67/1,

2A, 2B, 2C, 2D, 4A etc., of Edayathankudi village, Ariyalur Taluk, Ariyalur District.

General public participated in the Public Hearing meeting and their views:

1. Thiru. N. Sengamuthu, President, Ariyalur District Farmers Association,

Konerirayapuram Village

Ariyalur District is known for cultivation of all crops. He informed that this

District has been in the limelight for its development, not only in our country but also

world over. Both agriculture and industrial development have to co-exist. He

expressed his no objection for the project, if the project is as per the Government

Rules and Regulation. He requested the company and Government to support

agriculture family in this area.

He suggested leaving a safety distance of 50 meters from public road and

water from the mine should be let into the nearby lake for irrigation. After mining is

completed the mine shall be refilled and thick green belt shall be developed. He also

requested to ensure whether all the mines operating in this area are following the

mining rules. He also asked to fix speed controllers in all the limestone transporting

lorries/trucks to ensure maximum speed between 25 to 40 Kmph.

He asked the company to provide direct and indirect employment for the

people who have given land for this project and also to give priority for educated

youth in this area. He expressed his wholehearted support for the project if M/s. India

Cements Ltd., carried out the mining activity within the Rules and Regulation of

mines.

2. Thiru. Swaminathan, Former President, Panchayat Council,

Periyathirukonam Village

He expressed his no objection for starting the mine. There are many educated

youths in this area and he asked the management to provide employment, road and

basic facilities to the near-by villages and to build a part-time ration shop in

Chettithirukonam village. On behalf of the public he requested to provide tuition

facilities for Government school children studying in 10th

and 12th

standard. He

welcomes the project.

3. Thiru. Natarajan, Periyathirukonam Village

The India Cements Ltd had purchased the lands since 1994 and after

approvals from the Central and State Governments the unit has now approached for

public hearing for starting the new mine. The company has done a lot of welfare

amenities in our village 20 years before itself. He thanked the company for providing

infrastructure facility for temples and school building in their village. He expressed

his support for starting the new mine.

For the benefit of the village people he requested to provide road facilities

before starting the mine and to purchase land for new construction and renovate the

school building through NABARD Bank also to bear the educational expenses for the

poor students who are studying in the 10th

and 12th

standard in Government schools.

On behalf of village people he requested for a community hall, veterinary hospital and

in addition to that the company shall procure patta land required for constructing

school building. He also requested for employment opportunity for the educated

youths, differently abled persons and also employment opportunity for college

students in their educational institutions. He requested to provide RO water and to

establish employment camps for the youths in this area. He also requested to restrict

the depth of mining as specified by the Government. He requested to remove the

seemai karuvelam (Prosopis juliflora) trees in this area. The company shall give

chance to the near-by village people for working in the mine. He expressed his wishes

to proceed the meeting in a good manner.

4. Thiru. Balasingam, Periyakurichi Village

During land acquisition the company has promised for employment, contract

work and basic facilities but even after 20 years it was not done so far. We requested

the company management to conduct medical camps and provide purified drinking

water. Respiratory and lung problems are arising due to blasting during mining

activity. Many people in Ariyalur District are died due to kidney and cancer problems.

In order to prevent this, the companies are conducting medical camps once in a year.

People are informing that only blood and sugar test are done in the medical camps.

Further the company has to do all tests/diagnosis and treatments to the people.

Employment opportunity has to be given for educated youths.

He also informed that Geologists have indicated that there are possibilities of

earth quake due to deep mining of limestone. He expressed that Mining of limestone

will create lot of problems to this area and hence this project should not be permitted.

5. Thiru. Ramesh, Periyathirukonam Village

He said that Dalmia, Chettinad, Ultra Tech, India cements limited and other

companies are presently carrying out mining activity in this area (Periyathirukkonam,

Chettithirukkonam, Edayathangudi and Reddipalayam villages). Due to this there is

no land/place for cultivation. Hence the company has to provide job opportunities for

their educated youths based on their qualifications. He expressed his support for

starting the new mine by the India Cements Limited and also requested to provide

employment to the educated youths. He welcomes the project.

6. Thiru. Sivaraj, Periyathirukonam Village

Presently there is no agriculture in our village and there is no land left for

cultivation. We all support for starting the new mine by the India Cements Limited.

He said that 50 out of 100% youngsters in the village are not having job opportunity

and requested the company to provide employment. No proper road facilities. School

timing was changed because of non-availability of bus facilities and requested to

provide road and bus facilities for their village. He welcomes the project.

7. Thiru. Iyappan, Vellipringiyam Village

He said that public hearing is required for starting a mine and they are not

against the project. A country can grow only when there is industrial and educational

developments in the country. Basic facilities are to be provided for the near-by

villages. Employment opportunities are to be given to the youths in the near-by

villages based on their qualification. For uneducated youths indirect employment has

to be given. Limestone carrying lorries/trucks are over loaded. The company is telling

that they are doing water sprinkling over the roads but they are not doing. The

company has to give mine pit water to the public for beneficial use. Necessary safety

distance should be left for the roads before starting the mining activity as per the

mining rules. He requested for basic facilities such as toilet and road facility and also

building for school at Velliperingiyam village. He also requested for lower bridge and

road facility across the Maruthaiyar river which flows between Periyathirukkonam

and Edaiyathangudi villages. The company has to desilt the surrounding lakes and

ponds. He asked to avoid blasting operation during mining activity and to avoid the

usage of rock breaker and ripper dozer after 10 P.M. in the mine. Due to industry

emerges the industry and the surrounding areas also to be developed. He requested to

provide RO water on payment basis and also to provide a veterinary hospital. He

asked for ration shop in Chettithirukonam village and bus facilities should be provided

for the school children and teachers during the school and office hours. He also asked

the company to place a display/name board at the entrance of the mine. He welcomes

the project.

8. Thiru. Ravikumar, Settithirukonam Village

He said that they had sold-out the lands to the company and he told that they

are not against the project. We hope we are benefitted when this project comes to our

area. He told that the company has done lot of help earlier and we hope it will

continue in the future. He requested employment opportunity for the educated youths

and to renovate the primary health centre in Periyathirukonam village. He also

requested for road facility, renovation of Shiva Temple, Cycle shed for the

Government school and employment for the differently abled person. We will co-

operate to the industry if they are reliable to the village people. He welcomes the

project.

9. Thiru. Siva Perumal, Vaippam Village

He said that there is no objection for mining of limestone by the company

without any disturbance to the public. The limestone carrying lorries/trucks should not

overload and to fix speed controllers and they should be operated without any

disturbance to the public. He informed that presently there is scarcity for drinking

water in Edayathankudi village and at present with the help of the government the

water is supplied from Poyyur through pipeline. But it is not sufficient and hence the

company has to support for providing purified drinking water from Poyyur to

Edayathankudi village. He expressed his wishes for the further growth of India

Cements Ltd.

10. Thiru. Elavarasan, Chettithirukonam Village

He requested the company for road facilities and training the youths for

Mining Mate Examination and to give employment for them. Further the company has

to provide purified drinking water to the nearby villages. In Ariyalur District the road

facility is very poor. He asked where is the air pollution monitoring device erected. It

is better to grant mining permission after inspecting the mine. How the company will

provide medical facility for the persons who affected by the vibrations and noise

pollution? The District Collector shall grant permission to the mine only after the

company has provided proper road facility, road safety signs and also provided all

safety precautions for the mining activity.

11. Thiru. Elavarasan, Thamaraikulam Village

He informed that public will be affected due to deep mining and the company

has to mine upto 140 Feet depth only. Deep mining to be avoided. He informed that

water will get polluted because of mining and accidents will happen due to increase in

vehicle movements in road. Employment opportunity is only eyewash and hence he

raised his objection for this project.

12. Thiru. M. Anbazhagan, Vellipringiyam Village

He said that all cement companies are having mines in their village. Even

though the standard of living of the people has improved; drinking water is not good

as before. Due to this people are affected from lot of diseases. This will be avoided if

purified drinking water is consumed by the people. So, the company has to provide

RO water. He requested the lorry/truck drivers to restrict the speed. Even though the

unit is sprinkling water on the roads the mud slurry from the mine are carried out by

the trucks/lorries to the roads during rainy season. So, to avoid this proper road facility

to be provided by the unit. Hence road facility has to be provided up to 100 meters in

the mine area and also he added that the heavy trucks/lorry shall be allowed to the

road only after their wheels are completely washed/cleaned with water. He requested

the company to provide public toilets for the villages. The company has supported the

school in his village. He also requested to provide employment opportunity to the

local village people based on their qualification and to use local vehicles for their

mining work. He expressed his support for this project.

13. Thiru. Arivazhagan, Edaiyathangudi Village

He said that our village is most affected by drinking water scarcity/problem.

So, he requested the unit to provide bore-well in Poyyur village and supply drinking

water for his village. He requested the company to provide public toilets for the

village. In Vaippam and Aranoor village the bus stand shed is in damaged condition

and hence the unit has to provide a new one. He also requested to conduct veterinary

camp for their cattles and also medical camp for the public. He also requested to

provide financial support to the poor children for their education.

14. Thiru. Akbar Sharif, Reddipalayam Village

He said that cement factories are required; then only we can build our houses.

Industrial development is required for the country and hence they are supporting for

the starting of new mine by the India Cements Limited. He also said that the company

shall carry out the mining activity as per the Government Rules and Regulations and

the company has to promise employment opportunity for 50 persons for his local

village peoples. The mine pit water is in good condition and hence the company has

to supply water for cultivation and drinking purpose. He asked the unit to use rock

breaker and ripper dozer by avoiding blasting operation during mining activity and

usage of rock breaker and ripper dozer for mining of limestone should be done only

during the day time. He asked the company to provide cement road facilities and also

to increase the CSR fund. He welcomes the project.

15. Thiru. Vannai Kaliyaperumal, Periyathirukonam Village

He said that in Tamil Nadu Kidney affected peoples are more in Ariyalur

District based on the statistics. Heart and Lung problem are also found in this area.

Agriculture is the back bone of the country and industrial development is also needed

for the country development and hence, nobody is not against the mine. He also

requested the company to give job opportunity to the village people. Employment

opportunity to be given to the educated and uneducated youths based on their

qualification. The Government shall utilize the Royalty fund for the basic

infrastructure development for the Ariyalur District. Even though the Environment is

affected due to industrial development the Government has to take necessary steps to

over-come/prevent such damages in order to safe guard the environment. He also

requested to construct check dam across the Marudaiyaru River. He welcomes the

project.

16. Thiru. R. Paneerselvam, Edaiyathangudi Village

He said that, in our area other than India Cements, Dalmia Cements,

Chettinad Cements and other private companies are operating their mines for the past

10 years, but none of them have developed green belt in their mining areas and along

the road sides and therefore, he asked that how the Environment will be protected? He

also said that for the past 20 years the companies are not supplying their excess mine

pit water for cultivation purpose. He also added that the ground water table is going

below. Ariyalur District is prone for Earth quake so this area will get more damage.

Some of the mines are not refilled or closed even after the mining activity is over. Full

fledged medical camp should be conducted; diseases should be diagnosed and

treatment procedure for that disease to be explained to the public. He also requested

the company to construct check dam across the Maruthaiyar river so that the ground

water depletion can be avoided and so the ground water table will be increased and it

will be benefitted for agriculture purpose. He requested the company to provide

employment for the educated youths. To avoid vehicle emission the unit has to

develop green belt along the road side. The unit has to adopt one village every year

and full-fill all their basic needs. He asked the company to refill the mined out area

after completion of the mine.

17. Mrs. Selvi, Ex. Panchayat President, Periyathirukonam Village

She requested the company to provide road facility, drinking water facility,

employment for the educated youths and to construct new Vinayagar Temple in

Periyathirukonam village. She also requested financial support for the construction of

Mariamman Temple and Shiva Temple at Chettithirukonam. She welcomes the

project.

18. Thiru. Mugilan, Tamil Nadu Environmental Protection Mission, Erode

He said that the entire project report should be made displayed in the website

in Tamil, but only executive summary alone displayed in the website and also the

analysis report given by the company is not in full shape. Seventy five years old

industries CSR allotment fund is very low. He also said that if the limestone

production rate from the mine is 2.34 million tons per annum then actual life of the

mine will be 6 years only but the life of the mine is given as 10 to 12 years and also

the maximum depth of the mine is mentioned as 44 meters. Local youth are not given

job opportunities. Only Rs.10 lakhs fund is allocated for CSR activities, this seems to

be very low. Air quality has been monitored only for three months from March to May

2017, whereas it should be done for all seasons round the year. The unit has reported

that SO2 and NOx are present as per the analysis report. It will be more in the windy

season and more over the rainfall will be low and there is a possibility for acid rain.

Water available in the south of Maruthaiyar river is not suitable for drinking purpose

as mentioned in their report. Water quality will deteriorate when mining is done

deeper. The industry has mentioned in his report that they had provided water and

toilet facility for the villages. It has been mentioned in the report that Vellipringiyam,

Periyathirukonam, Muniyankurichi and Edayathankudi villages are located at a

distance of 500 meters from the mine site and so it is necessary to see the impact of

blasting.

More over it has been mentioned that 69.78% of land in Ariyalur District is

agriculture land. The people are moving away from agriculture because of the mining

activities. In Ariyalur District 70% of land is having good ground water potential. This

area will get deteriorated if the mining activity is permitted. In the report it has been

mentioned that in row(1) national bird peacock is present in this area and conservation

measures have been proposed to safe guard it. No places in Tamil Nadu have not

implemented this so far. As per rule, no mining activity is permitted within 10 Km

radius if there is existence of National Bird (Peacock). In Hydrology analysis report

the company had mentioned that mining depth will be 44 meters only. In general

report thick green belt will be developed to control the dust emission emitted during

drilling operation. 33% green belt should be developed as per the rule but nobody has

followed this rule anywhere.

In most of the times the Limestone carrying lorries/trucks are not carrying

permitted load and also they are not fully covered with tarpaulin. The companies are

not doing water sprinkling regularly on the road. Hence, Water, Air and Noise

environment gets polluted. They informed that vibrations will be controlled. It has

been mentioned that as per government rules path way will be provided for cemetery,

vehicles, cart track etc., They informed that Rs. 327 lakhs will be spent for CSR

activity, which is not sufficient. In the repot it has been mentioned that transportation

will be done for 12 hours only. But in actual this is not practiced (excess

transportation is done). All the companies should appoint an Environmental Engineer

to study the impact and know the remedial measures to control it and it should be

followed by every organization as per the Pollution Control Board Norms and make a

display board at the entrance of the mine. This area has large occurrence of kidney,

Cancer and Asthma problems due to mines. In the past 5 years alone 5362 persons

have been affected due to sand Lorries; this information/report is given by

Government through Right to Information Act. Hence he requested to reject this

public hearing report and the project and safeguard Ariyalur District and Tamil Nadu.

He strongly oppose this project.

19. Thiru. Murugesan, Muniyankurichi Village

He said that Public hearing meeting is between the land seller and the land

purchaser. He also expressed his no objection for the project. He asked the company

to execute the project without any impact to the public. Activity of the industry should

not affect the livelihood of the nearby villages. He expressed his no objection for this

Public Hearing. He welcomes the project.

20. Thiru. Gangachalam Periyathirukonam Village

He said that he welcomes the India cements new mine. He requested the

company to adopt their village and provide all basic facilities. School and Medical

facilities, financial aid for students higher education and employment opportunities to

the qualified persons. Direct and indirect employment opportunities should be

ensured. Excess water from the mine pit should be let-out into the Sakiliyan lake

through pipeline for the benefit of the public. He welcomes the project.

21. Thiru. Raja, Chettithirukonam Village

He said that the public hearing was not intimated properly and also sufficient

report and explanation is not given to the village people. He said that the project area

of 74.81.0 hectare i.e., 185 acres is a very big mine area proposed to be started in the

Ariyalur District, so the public should not give their support to this project. More

number of mines are found adjacent to this area they are also like the same project.

Whether they are following the rules? Ground water table depletion is due to mines.

The industries are dragging the agricultural water source for their industrial power

generation. They have dragged our water source and that is why they are providing

bore wells in free of cost. Agriculture lands had been sold out to the industries due to

poverty. Heavy vehicles (trucks/lorry) from the mines shall be allowed to the road

only after their wheels are completely washed/cleaned with water. Limestone carrying

lorries/trucks are running without any speed restrictions or speed controllers and

without tarpaulin covering, which is affecting the two wheelers and school children

who are travelling.

He also said that existing mining operation are more than enough and to

avoid further new projects if it is possible.

People who have already spoken had welcomed the project. It has been

indicated in the report that maximum depth of mine will be at 35 to 40 meters.

Permission should be accorded only after examining. Till now none of the mine has

been closed and given back for public use. This property was purchased 20 years back

by the industry and was left with thorny bushes (Seema Karuvelan (Prosopis juliflora)

trees). Now only the organisation brings to usage. He said that the unit shall not divert

the passage of canal (odai) and they should not encroach the Maruthiayar river water

passage area and also no damage should be done to the public property. Earlier the

ground water table was at 24 feet but now it goes up to 80 feet depth. Hence this

project should be permitted only after careful examination/inspection. He spoke on

behalf of his village people.

22. Thiru. Maharajan, Chettithirukonam Village.

He said that public hearing meeting is conducted only because there will be

impact on the environment. Already there are lot of mining activity carried out in

Ariyalur District. More over there are many mines around our village so in addition to

that we do not require this project now. He also said that new projects may be

permitted after closing the old mines. He said that next earthquake will be expected

first to Ariyalur District only. He requested the company for permanent employment.

He also said that this project can be permitted after 4 years.

23. Thiru. C. Palaniappan, Ex. Panchayat President, Periyathirukonam Village

He said that people from his village and their village leaders have already

expressed their requirements. He requested the company to provide all facilities and

the unit shall operate as per the Mining Rules and Regulations which is reported by

the company. He thanked to all who participated in the Public Hearing and welcomes

the project.

24. Thiru. Selvaraj, Periyathirukonam Village

He said that we had sold-out our property/land to India cements Ltd and so

we are not against this project. But he asked the company to refill the mined-out area

and provide necessary safety distances. He requested the company for employment,

road facilities and develop & maintain green belt. He also said that Rs.10 Lakhs fund

earmarked for CSR activities is not enough and requested to allocate Rs.50 lakhs. He

said that he welcomes the project and do the needs of the public. He welcomes the

project.

25. Thiru. Senthilkumar, Periyathirukonam Village.

He said that none of the companies are providing job opportunities and

expressed his objection for the new mine. Check dams will not be provided by them

and water let-out from the mines will not be usable. Already the Ground water table

has gone down from 19 feet. He said that he had drilled a bore well for 400 feet

depth. So, he expressed his objection to the project.

26. Thiru. Arunmozhivarman, Mullukurichi Village.

He said that as per the statistics of 2011, Ariyalur District has 150 mines

starting from the bank of Vellar River at Alathiyur upto the bank of Kollidam River at

Aalanthuraiyarkattalai. After 2011, the Government might have granted permission to

50 mines, hence around 200 mines may exist in this area. So far no mines have back

filled their mined-out pit. He told that no mines followed the bench height, width &

slope of 5 meters as per Mining Rules but all the mines are in 90o slope.

The

companies told that they had planted trees at the Dam side. But 33% of the area has

not been developed as green belt. If it prevails, how the environmental noise and

pollution comes under control. They drill holes very closely for blasting operation;

houses are getting vibrated due to heavy blasting. Already there are about 200 mines

in operation; so considering the inconvenience of the people, the government officials

have to prevent the starting of new mines. The mine depth is varied from place to

place. The companies are getting permission from the Government for the new mine

depending upon the limestone stock due to limestone existence. They obtained

permission based on limestone existence. In Ariyalur District all mines should

excavate the mine depth up to 37meters uniformly.

He informed that the companies should leave 50 meters safe distance from

Agricultural land and water course. As the companies are not sprinkling water, the

nearby cultivation are affected by dust emission. The roads are not worth enough for

transporting 25 Tons material. Due to blasting operations in the mines the houses are

going to crack. Uppu odai (canal) is passing in between this new mine and hence 50

meter safety distance to be left from the canal. In this project the location of check

dam is not clearly mentioned. He said that this Public Hearing meeting is going in one

side hearted basis. So he asked to cancel the Public hearing and also this project. He

expressed his objection to the project.

27. Thiru. Karuppusamy, Adanakurichi Panchayat, Pudupalayam Village

Mines nearby Alathiyur are backfilled with soil. Trees are planted by the

company in the area of Manakudaiyan, Adanakurichi and Thular in Alathiyur

Panchayat. He said that the company has provided 10 bore wells and one R.O plant in

our Adanakurichi panchayat. The company is giving mine pit water for the nearby

farmlands for cultivation and hence we don’t have any water problem. Therefore,

there is no problem for us to establish the upcoming mining project. So he welcomes

the upcoming mining project.

28. Thiru. Govindaraj, Vellipringiyam Village.

He said that he had given the land for the factory. The ICL has done a lot for

our villagers. He said that the company had bought our lands for higher prices. He

added to that if we approach the management properly company will do all the

welfare schemes to our village. He welcomes the project.

29. Thiru. R. Sankar, State President, Legal Awareness and Anti-Corruption

Movement, Ariyalur.

He said that he is from Ariyalur. In this project report; Site description,

Project description; Socio economic status, Ambient air quality, Land environment,

Biological Environment, Soil Quality, Environmental impact and Environmental

Monitoring Programme are given. The District Collector and District Environmental

Engineer have the responsibilities to oversee the governing laws of mines. For the

growth of a country, industrial development is very essential. For the development of

the industries, mining of minerals is essential. Nearby this project there are lot of

mines and they are not strictly adhering to the rules and regulations. The people of this

area are requesting the company to provide road facilities, medical facilities and

drinking water facility. They gave up their agricultural lands to the development of

industries. Due to this reason this area people are affected; therefore, they are

requesting the authorities to spend the entire CSR and DMF fund to this affected area

people of this region. In this area ITI or workshop should be established for the

betterment of employment for this people. The company should fulfill their basic

needs and the toilet facilities in this area are worst and hence he requested the

company to provide toilet facilities in each and every houses. He requested the

company to conduct medical camps and further treatments if need to the local people.

Therefore, it is the duty of cement factories to ensure that the people of this area are

provided with all facilities, protect the people and the younger generation.

30. Thiru. Selvaraj, Kottaikadu Village

He said that mines are working fine for the past 20 years in my area. In

Alathiyur and Kottaikadu mines area the company had planted teak and coconut trees.

I would like to inform that tipper drivers from the nearby villages of Thetheri,

Mullukurichi, Alathiyur and Kottaikadu are working in the mines. He also added that

some of the people in his area are working in various Departments of India Cements

Limited. So he requested the District Collector to grant mining permission for this

project. He welcomes the project.

31. Thiru. Sivagurunathan, Pasikulam Village

He said that after the establishment of The India Cements Limited only the

Pennadam village and its surrounding areas have developed. He also said that the

company has provided Education facilities, road facilities, temple renovation,

especially Kottaikadu Shivan temple renovation work to this area. So he supports to

the establishment of this new mine. He welcomes the project.

32. Thiru. Muruganantham, Muniyankurichi Village

He said that the ground water level in his agricultural land got reduced due to

the existing mining operation. He requested the companies to let-out the surplus mine

pit water from the nearby mines to the nearby lakes which will raise the water levels

in the nearby wells. Due to blasting operation inaudible noise and cracks are formed in

the walls of the houses. Hence, the upcoming mine project should not create any

damages to the village people due to mining operation. He said that he supports for the

establishment of new mine project and requested the company to let-out the surplus

mine pit water to the nearby lake. He welcomes the project.

33. Thiru. Pandithurai, Mullukurichi Village (President of Adhanakuruchi

Co- operative society)

He said that the public will not be affected due to the mining activity and asked

the public not to have fear about this project. Based on the village people’s request the

company has provided water for our agricultural land for cultivation. Likewise, they

are maintaining green belt around the mines and also the company is backfilling the

mined-out area. So there is no need for fear. He welcomes the project.

34. Thiru. Ramalingam, Kottaikadu Village

He said to the public no need to fear. He also said that all facilities are provided

by the company without requesting them. He welcomes the project.

35. Thiru. Neelamegam, Adanakurichi Village

He said that for the past 20 years in our area The India Cements Limited and

The Ramco Cements Limited mines are operating their mines without following the

Rules and Regulations. Therefore, I request you to inspect the area before granting

permission to the new mine.
