Zhan Tianyou

The Father of Chinese railroads( 铁路） .

He was born in 1861. He was a railroad

engineer ( 工程师 ). In 1905, the Chinese

government( 政府 ) wanted to build ( 建造 ) a railroad. Foreign ( 外国的 ) people,

like the British and the Russians ( 俄国人 )wanted to build it.

Zhan Tianyou was patriotic( 爱国的 ). He helped our Chinese people build our first railroad. It was difficult to build the railroad because we had to build many bridges ( 桥梁 ) and tunnels ( 隧道 ). Through ( 通过 ) his hard work, he was successful. When he died, the Chinese opened a museum( 博物馆 ) for him. He is a national ( 民族的 ) hero ( 英雄 ).
