2. What is iron? Where is it found? How was it found? How was iron discovered? What is the physical properties of iron? What are the chemical properties of iron?Additional Questions Is iron good for you? How is iron used in medicine? 3. Iron is the most common element in the earthscrust. Its atomic number is twenty six and is a lonelyatom. Irons symbol is FE which comes from the Latinword ferrum. Irons atomic number is 26 and itsatomic mass is 55.845.Iron is lonely, it wants 6 moreelectrons for its shell to be full. 4. Iron is mainly found underground. Its found asan ore in mines. Iron also can be found insidemeteorites and inside rocks. Our earths core andmany other planets core are made of iron. Did youknow that on mars, many rocks have iron in it sothey oxidizes and becomes a brick red which givesmars its red color. An iron mine in America. 5. Iron was discovered in 5000 BC. No one reallyknows who first discovered iron but, we do knowthat it was used a very long time ago by theevidence scientists have found. An example ofevidence would be weapons. The most commonweapon is swords. Swords are common becausethere were lots of wars back then. During the CivilWar, people created cannons made of iron. 6. Iron has many physical properties to it. Ironsmelting point is 2,800 F and its boiling point is5,184 F. Iron surprisingly dissolves in water but ittakes a very long time for the process to becomplete. Iron is a solid at room temperature butcan be a liquid and a gas. It has no smell and it iscold when under ground.Iron being turnedmolten iron. 7. Just because iron is a mineral, there is chemicalproperties too it. If you add carbon to iron, the ironwill no longer be iron, it becomes steel. Steel is astronger form then ordinary iron. The more carbonyou add to the iron the stronger it is. But if you addtoo much carbon, the steel is a brittle that we call pigiron. They call it pig iron because when we first madeit, it was like piglets sucking on their mothers udder.Another combination will use water and oxygen. Ifyou mix one of these with iron it will create ironoxidewhich is basically rust. 8. a picture of iron oxide a picture of steel pipes 9. Iron is in fact really good for your body. Iron makesyou very strong, thats why your parents always tellyou to eat your fruits, veggies and meats. Everyliving thing on earth( and maybe on other planets )have iron in them, except for crabs, they mostlyhave copper. If you dont have enough iron, youget iron deficiency. Iron deficiency is when yourbody doesnt have enough iron in it. Yoursymptoms could be being tired more often thenusual or being very weak. You can cure it buyeating fruits, veggies, and meat. 10. Iron is used in medicine to cure fatigue andiron deficiency. The way they put iron in themedicine is they grind the iron until its apowder form. They add only grams of ironbecause its not good to have to much of it so itdoesnt effect the other chemicals in themedicine. When you add a small amount ofiron, the medicine is used to prevent irondeficiency. But when you add lots of iron it isused to treat iron deficiency. 11. A picture of iron used in medicine. You mainlyfind it as a fluid as shown here. 12. The experiment Im about to do is extractingpure iron from cereal. Materials: A magnet Two plastic bags Cereal (works best with cereal with 100% ironin it. Check nutritions bar) A cup of warm or hot water 13. I learned through my project that iron is a veryinteresting and unique element. When I firstknew about iron I thought iron was just astrong metal but it turns out I spoke too soon. 14. THE END
