Molisch’s Test (carbohydrates)
- A chemical test to show the presence of carbohydrates- Positive result = red to purple colored compound- Adding conc !ulphuric acid ("#!$%) as catalyst for dehydration- &t will form # layers' clear sol’n with a red to purple precipitate
- A negative test will show a clear sol’n with a light precipitate that is hardlyseen while the positive test will present a clear sol’n with a vivid precipitate
ibose (*lear sol’n) with +ar, precipitate (specify color +i ,o nasulat)
.lucose (*lear sol’n) with /rown precipitate
.alactose (*lear sol’n) with 0hite precipitate
1ructose (*lear sol’n) with 2elly-li,e precipitate(specify color +i ,o nasulat)
!ucrose (*lear sol’n) with /eige precipitate
3actose (*lear sol’n) w4 +ar, Precipitate(di ,o nasulat)
Maltose (*lear sol’n) w4 3ight Pin, precipitate (di ,o maalala ,ung vivid ba o ,aya
near colorless)
These results must be all positive because these sugars are carbohydrates5 which
gives positive results for the Molisch’s Test
