Welcome letter

Dear Student Recreation Center Member,

On behalf of the entire Campus Recreation Staff, I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome you as our

new member. We are so thrilled that you have decided to join the movement towards a healthy lifestyle.

At the Recreation center, we pride ourselves on offering outstanding customer service, latest fitness trend

initiatives, state of the art exercise equipment, and maintaining a clean safe environment. Our members are a

very important part of our operation, and we will try to ensure that we meet your needs and the growing

needs of the University community.

As a member you will have access to the 106,000 sq. foot facility which houses an Aquatic Facility, Locker

rooms, 2 Basketball courts, Free Weight area, Cardio Deck area, Machine Weight area, Rock wall, Boulder-

ing area, Racquetball courts and host of Group Fitness classes. For a complete list of the services that are

provided with the membership please check the website or in your orientation packet.

I am also happy to inform you that I will be your primary point of contact at the Recreation Center, and I

look forward to interacting with you around our facility. If you have any questions please feel free to contact

me by phone, email, or at the member orientation. We will hold two membership orientation events the 2nd

and 4th Friday of each month. Please feel free to join us and take advantage of personal guided tours around

the facility and a chance to network with other new members.

Thank you again for entrusting the Student Recreation Center with your Fitness and Health needs. We are

honored to serve you and assist you on your quest for a Healthy lifestyle.

Parking is available in the Columbus State University Parking Garage with the

proper permit.

To obtain a permit, members must go to the University Police Department and fill out an

application . Upon completion of the application , a parking permit will be issued to mem-

bers. If you have additional questions regarding parking permits, please, call University Po-

Fitness Assessment

A FREE fitness assessment is a great way to evaluate your current fitness level. We can help

you identify areas of strengths and weaknesses. This evaluation will ensure you start with an

exercise program appropriate for your fitness level.

Fitness Assessments are offered:

Monday – Friday

Assessments take 30 minutes

Appointments are required

Fitness assessment tests include:

Resting Heart Rate

Blood Pressure

Body Composition

Cardiovascular fitness

Muscular fitness

Flexibility

Remember:

Wear athletic shorts, t-shirt and athletic shoes.

Drink plenty of fluids over the 24-hour period preceding the test to ensure normal hydration prior to the

testing.

Avoid food, tobacco, alcohol, and caffeine for at least 3 hours before testing.

Avoid exercise or strenuous physical activity the day of the test.

Get an adequate amount of sleep (6-8 hours) the night before the test.

Scheduling an appointment: Please sign up by emailing Lori Coffield, [email protected]. Please arrive 10

minutes early before your appointment to fill out necessary paperwork. Failure to arrive at the

scheduled time results in a forfeiture of your appointment. You may schedule your appoint-

ment 24 hours in advance.

Policies

WARNING: You may suffer physical and/or mental injury from partici-

pating in these activities. Participation in Student Recreation Center Ac-

tivities and Programs is completely voluntary. Individuals participate at

their own risk and assume responsibility for their own health and safety.

Columbus State University and the Student Recreation Center are not lia-

ble for the injuries sustained during participation in any activity or pro-

gram. It is strongly recommended that all participants consult a Physi-

cian and/or have a physical exam prior to participation.

Lockers All lockers in the facility are DAY lockers only. If locks are left on lockers overnight, they will be cut off.

If a lock is on a locker overnight, a lock cutoff form will be placed on the locker. This form states that the

lock must come off the locker within three days, or it will be cut off.

Alcohol, Drugs and Smoking

Alcohol, drugs and smoking is strictly prohibited in the Student Recreation Center. Columbus State Uni-

versity is a smoke-free campus. If alcohol, drugs, or smoking is occurring in the Student Recreation Cen-

ter, contact a professional staff member, recreation supervisor or University Police to have the offending

person removed from the Student Recreation Center.

Equipment Checkout Equipment (basketballs, racquetball rackets, volleyballs, indoor soccer balls, etc.) can be checked out by

CSU members at the main information desk of the facility. A member must have a valid identification card,

that they will give to the attendant at the front counter when checking out equipment. The member will sign

for the equipment. Once the member has finished using the equipment , all equipment must be returned to

the front desk and member identification will be returned at that time.

Attire and Footwear

¨ Shirts, shoes, shorts or pants, must be worn at all times.

¨ Shoes must be non-marking on wood floors.

¨ No boots, turf shoes, high heels or sandals.

¨ Shorts must be long enough to cover groin and buttocks of the wearer.

Policies

Lost and Found

All lost items in the Student Recreation Center will be turned into the main information desk. Items not

claimed will remain at the front counter for the semester then delivered to University Police.

Incident Reports

In the event there is medical or behavioral incidents, member and staff will account the incident in report

form and follow procedure. These reports are located at the main information desk of the Student Recrea-

tion Center. A report will be turned in to the Director of Campus Recreation.

Use of the Student Recreation Center is reserved for currently enrolled members and their guests.

The Student Recreation Center is a controlled access facility. Please enter and exit through the main en-

trance only.

Smoking/Tobacco Use of ANY kind is Prohibited.

Food and Beverages are permitted on the tile floors ONLY.

Glass or metal containers are NOT allowed.

Shirts must be worn at ALL times.

ONLY non-marking shoes are allowed in activity areas.

Personal Radios/mp3 players are allowed WITH headphones.

Bicycles, skateboards, and inline skates are NOT permitted inside the Student Recreation Center.

Student Recreation Center is NOT responsible for lost or stolen items.

All personal items must be stored in provided cubbies and/or lockers.

Participation in Student Recreation Center Activities and Programs is completely voluntary. Individuals

participate at their own risk and assume responsibility for their own health and safety. Columbus State Uni-

versity and the Student Recreation Center are not liable for the injuries sustained during participation in any

activity or program. It is strongly recommended that all participants consult a Physician and/or have a phys-

ical exam prior to participation.

Fitness Area, Track & Racquetball Policies

Report injuries or equipment problems to the Student Recreation Center Staff.

Proper athletic attire is required. No plastic sweat suits allowed.

Closed toe shoes required.

Beverages must be contained in a non-glass, spill-proof container. NO food, gum or tobacco.

Please, clean equipment after use.

Training sessions may only be conducted by Student Recreation Center Trained Personnel.

Please, DO NOT drop equipment.

Spotters are required on ALL free weight press stations.

Collars are required for all free weight bars.

Return equipment and weights to their PROPER location.

Contact the Information Desk for assistance with equipment; Disassembling or moving equipment is

NOT permitted.

All personal items must be stored in the provided cubbies and/or lockers.

Columbus State University and the Student Recreation Center Are not responsible for lost or stolen

items.

Violation of any policy may result in ejection from the facility.

Track Policies Inside Lanes reserved for walking.

Outside Lanes reserved for jogging.

No Throwing objects from the track.

Racquetball Courts Policies

Protective Eyewear is Highly Recommended.

gymnasium & rock wall Policies

Only NON-Marking shoes allowed.

Beverages must be contained in a non-glass, spill-proof container.

NO food, gum or tobacco.

Hanging on nets and rims is NOT allowed.

Deliberate abuse of the walls, doors, equipment, etc. is NOT permitted.

NO profanity.

Shirts are required at ALL times.

NO Chewing Gum.

Violation of any policy may result in ejection from the facility.

Rock Wall Policies

Report injuries or equipment problems to the Climbing Wall Staff IMMEDIATELY.

Please, be courteous and respectful to other participants.

Having a spotter while bouldering is HIGHLY recommended.

Appropriate footwear required.

Climbers are encouraged to remove jewelry, objects from pockets, and secure eyewear.

Beverages must be contained in a non-glass, spill-proof container.

NO food, gum or tobacco.

All personal equipment must be approved by the Climbing Wall Staff.

UN-Roped climbing Outside the Bouldering areas is prohibited.

Topping out is prohibited.

Climbing helmets are recommended and available upon request.

No Loose Chalk is allowed.

Violation of any of these policies may result in ejection from Facility.

Guest Policies

CSU welcomes guests to access the Student Recreation Center under the following cir-

cumstances:

Must be at least 18 years old.

Must have a valid picture ID card.

A member can sign in one guest per day.

Members are responsible for their invited guest.

Each invited guest must fill out a liability and information form.

The Guest fee will be $8. Cash only. No checks or Cougar Card can be used for payment.

Once an invited guest exits the Student Recreation Center, they cannot re-enter the build-

ing during that day.

If an invited guest breaks CSU Student Recreation Center rules or disrespects profession-

al staff or members, they will not be allowed to return to the Student Recreation Center.
