DESCRIPTION

Through the open-elective,"Revival of Regional Folk Music", we, a group of 16 NIDians, came together to understand the language and elements of folk music in India. The course aimed at sensitizing us to the nuances of folk styles prevalent in our country. Shri Rajat Dholakia, a renowned Music Composer, guided us in this process of exploration. He is one of the very rare music talents who can work with casual ease for Ad Jingles to folk compositions. He has worked on numerous folk music projects in different languages like 'Chhattisgadhi', 'Bhojpuri', 'Kutchhi' and 'Rajasthani' etc. Here is an attempt to present an amalgamation of various expressions of Indian Folk styles written, composed and sung by fellow NIDians. This is a collaborative effort as part of an academic course. Since, it was not a commercial venture, no professionals were involved in the project. Recorded at NID Sound Lab. © National Institute of Design 2012
