NOMENCLATURA
Regra geral
composto.
a) numero de carbonos (prefixo);
b) tipos de ligação entre eles (saturação);
c) função a que pertence a substancia (sufixo).
Prefixo: indica o número de átomos de carbono pertencentes a cadeia. 1C =
met; 2C = et; 3C = prop; 4C = but; 5C = pent; 6C = hex; 7C = hept; 8C = oct; 9C =

ligação tripla entre carbonos = in; duas ligações triplas entre carbonos = diin;
carbonos = en - in.
Sufixo: indica a função química a que pertence o composto orgânico.
Hidrocarboneto (apenas carbonos e hidrogênios) - sufixo “o”; álcool (hidroxila, -
OH, ligada a carbono saturado) - sufixo “ol”. Quando a cadeia carbônica for
característica do composto.
# numeração deve começar sempre pela extremidade da cadeia mais próxima# numeração deve começar sempre pela extremidade da cadeia mais próxima
da característica mais importante do composto: grupo funcional > insaturação;
As
# Escolha da cadeia principal: é aquela que, em ordem de importância:
1) possui o grupo funcional;
2) engloba o maior número de insaturações;
deve-se optar pela cadeia que tiver o maior número de ramificações; deve-se optar pela cadeia que tiver o maior número de ramificações;
como uma ramificação ou um radical da cadeia principal;
insaturação > radical;
prefixos di, tri, tetra, penta, etc. para indicar a quantidade de radicais;
crescente, separados entre si por vírgulas e do nome por hífen;crescente, separados entre si por vírgulas e do nome por hífen;
ser indicados em ordem alfabética;
tri, tetra, etc.) não são considerados quando se estabelece a ordem alfabética;

1. Determine the parent name by selecting the longest chain that contains the
double bond and change the ending of the name of the alkane of identical length
from -ane to -ene.
2. Number the chain so as to include both carbon atoms of the double bond, and
begin numbering at the end of the chain nearer the double bond. Designate
the location of the double bond by using the number of the first atom of the
double bond as a prefix:

3. Indicate the locations of the substituent groups by the numbers of the carbon
atoms to which they attached.
4. Number substituted cycloalkenes in the way that gives the carbon atoms of the
double bond the 1 and 2 positions and that also gives the substituent groups
the lower numbers at the first point of difference.

NOMENCLATURE OF ALKYNES
1. Alkynes are named in much the same way as alkenes ⇒ replacing -ane to -yne.
i) The chain is numbered to give the carbon atoms of the triple bond the lower
possible numbers.
ii) The lower number of the two carbon atoms of the triple bond is used to
designate the location of the triple bond.
iii) Where there is a choice the double bond is given the lower number.

5. IUPAC NOMENCLATURE OF ALCOHOLS
5.1 Alcohol Aliphatic. Functional class names of alcohols are derived by
naming the alkyl group that bears the hydroxyl substituent (-OH) and then
adding alcohol as a separate word. The chain is always numbered beginning at
the carbon to which the hydroxyl group is attached. Substitutive names of
alcohols are developed by identifying the longest continuous chain that bears
the hydroxyl group and replacing the -e ending of thecorresponding alkane by
the suffix -ol. The position of the hydroxyl group is indicated by number,
Química Orgânica I-Q Prof. Dr. Sandro Rogério Giacomelli
the suffix -ol. The position of the hydroxyl group is indicated by number,
choosing the sequence that assigns the lower locant to the carbon that bears
the hydroxyl group.
Hydroxyl groups take precedence over (“outrank”) alkyl groups, halogen
substituents, alkenes and alkynes in determining the direction in which a carbon
chain is numbered.

Menthol, obtained from peppermint oil, is used in cough drops
and throat sprays to sooth the respiratory tract by increasing
secretions from mucous membranes. Menthol is also an
ingredient in shaving creams, toothpastes, and cigarettes.
5.1 Alcohol Aromatic. An old name for benzene was phene, and its hydroxyl
derivative came to be called phenol.* This, like many other entrenched
common names, is an acceptable IUPAC name. Likewise, o-, m-, and p-cresol
are acceptable names for the various ring-substituted hydroxyl derivatives of
toluene. More highly substituted compounds are named as derivatives of
phenol. Numbering of the ring begins at the hydroxyl-substituted carbon and
proceeds in the direction that gives the lower number to the next substituted
carbon. Substituents are cited in alphabetical order.

6. NOMENCLATURE OF ETHERS
Functional class IUPAC names of ethers are
derived by listing the two alkyl groups in the
general structure ROR (alkoxy) or RSR (thiols) in
alphabetical order as separate words, and then
adding the word “ether” at the end. When both
alkyl groups are the same, the prefix di- precedes
the name of the alkyl group.
Química Orgânica I-Q Prof. Dr. Sandro Rogério Giacomelli
Because diethyl ether (commonly known simply as
ether) is a short-lived muscle relaxant, it has been
widely used as an inhalation anesthetic.
The IUPAC system names an ether as an alkane with an RO substituent. The
Ethers are described as symmetrical or unsymmetrical depending on
whether the two groups bonded to oxygen are the same or different.
Unsymmetrical ethers are also called mixed ethers. Diethyl ether is a
symmetrical ether; ethyl methyl ether is an unsymmetrical ether.
Química Orgânica I-Q Prof. Dr. Sandro Rogério Giacomelli
The IUPAC system names an ether as an alkane with an RO substituent. The
substituents are named by replacing the “yl” ending in the name of the alkyl
substituent with “oxy.”
Cyclic ethers have their oxygen as part of a ring—they are heterocyclic
compounds. Several have specific IUPAC names.

6.1 Epoxides
6.2 Thiols - named by adding the suffix “thiol” to the name of the parent
hydrocarbon. If there is a second functional group in the molecule, the SH group
can be indicated by its substituent name, “mercapto.” Like other substituent
names, it is cited before the name of the parent hydrocarbon.

7.1 ALDEHYDES NOMENCLATURE
The -e ending of the corresponding alkane name is replaced by -al, and
substituents are specified in the usual way. It is not necessary to specify the
location of the group in the name, since the chain must be numbered by starting
with this group as C-1. The suffix -dial is added to the appropriate alkane name
when the compound contains two aldehyde functions.
Química Orgânica I-Q Prof. Dr. Sandro Rogério Giacomelli
When a formyl group .............. is attached to a ring, the ring name is followed
by the suffix -carbaldehyde.
With ketones, the -e ending of an alkane is replaced by -one in the longest
continuous chain containing the carbonyl group. The chain is numbered in the
direction that provides the lower number for this group.

10.1 AMINE NOMENCLATURE
Amines are named in two main ways, in the IUPAC system: either as
alkylamines or as alkanamines. When primary amines are named as
alkylamines, the ending –amine is added to the name of the alkyl group that
bears the nitrogen. When named as alkanamines, the alkyl group is named as
an alkane and the -e ending replaced by -amine.
