Филмот ги претставува сликите од нашата потсвест, треперливи слики кои толку личат на животот, слики кои често се воздигнуваат над него. Сонуваме во будна состојба. Филмот е збир од илузионистичко – наративни кодови, особено во почетокот на создавањето. Филмот се создава и гледа со сите орудија кои водат кон размислување за уметноста. Филмската естетика е всушност филозофија на „седмата уметност”, синтетизација на филмската мисла. Филмот не е само апстрактна форма која се збогатува со неколку естетски својства, туку и тие естетски својства се збогатуваат со одликите на јазикот. Лакан препознава четири главни сексуални нагони. Ако само половината од нив, скопичкиот нагон (гледањето) и аудиелниот нагон (слушањето) се оние поради кои се оди во кино, тогаш треба ли посилен доказ за моќта на филмот? Да се оди во кино претставува допуштен чин, кој има место во саатницата за еден ден или недела и тоа место сепак претставува „процеп” во општественото ткаење, место кое води кон нешто „полудо”, помалку одобрено.

CINEDAYSA guide along the journey of film

The film is a series of images of our subconsciousness, flickering pictures which are so much like life itself, images which often rise above it. Dreaming in a state of wakefulness. The film is a sum of illusionistic-narrative codes, especially at the beginning of its creation. The film is created (and perceived) with all instruments that lead to contemplation on art. The film aesthetics is in fact philosophy of the seventh art, a synthesis of the film thought. The film is not only an abstract form which is enriched through several aesthetic qualities, but also how that particular aesthetic quality is enriched with the language traits. Lacan recognizes four pri-mary types of sex drives. If just a half of them - the ocular (visual) and the aural (audial) drive - are the reason for one’s visit to the cinema, then who needs a stronger proof on the power of film?“Going to the cinema is one lawful activity among the others” (C. Metz), “with its place in the admissible pastimes of the day or the week, and yet that place is a hole in the social cloth, a loophole opening up to something slightly more crazy, slightly less approved than what one does the rest of the time.”

САМО СОНОТ Е СТВАРНОСТ!Зграда на левиот брег од реката. Речиси залепена до зградата на мудроста. Ја нарекуваат – Младински културен центар. За сите млади – од 7 до 77 години! Програми - разновидни, слободарски, инспиративни… За филмофилите – некогаш одамна Синестички вечери, потоа Кинотечна програма, па Арт-кино и конечно Фросина! Кино именувано по првиот македонски игран филм!

Момците и девојките од МКЦ знаеја дека Холивуд е – клише, бизнис! Уметноста на филмот е некаде другаде. Со отворено срце ја пригрлија иницијативата на Педро Алмодовар за создавање на паневропски филмски фестивал којшто ќе ги воспева доблестите на европскиот филм. Или, ако сакате – почувствуваа порив да станат дел од културната политика на Европската Унија оти едноставно веруваа во она што Алмодовар го пропагираше дека иднината на европскиот филм е во разновидноста, откривањето и отвораноста и дека таа иднина зависи од сите нас! Искрено посакаа да стават свој печат во пропагирањето на тој и таков европски филм!Оти, европскиот филм не е само географска одредница!Филмови со доминантно уметничка мотивација, филмови во движење, филмови во потрага по различности, филмови со многуслојни значења, филмови со интригантни ракописи, филмови со нова свежина надвор од уметничките граници на минатото и сегашноста…

Европски филм – тоа е разбранувано море на авторски кинематографии коишто се борат како сонот да го престорат во стварност.

И значи, момците и девојките од МКЦ ставија свој белег во тоа како сонот да го престорат во стварност – го создадоа CINEDAYS. Фестивал на европскиот филм! И ги освоија сите скопски киносали. Вклучително и салата во харизматичната Кинотека на Македонија! И “без око да им трепне” нe доведоа до 10-тото издание! Е па,ЧЕСТИТ ЈУБИЛЕЈ!

За мене беше интересно како, практично, тие момци и девојки минатата година (значи на 9-тото издание) го соопштија својот став спрема величието на филмската уметност – рекоа: CINEDAYS се бори со пиратеријата! Со секое донирано пиратско ДВД билетот ќе чини само 50 денари!

ONLY THE DREAM IS REALITY!A building on the left bank of the river. Almost glued to the building of wisdom. They call it the Youth Cultural Center. For everyone who’s young - from 7 to 77 years old! Programmes - diverse, free-spirited, inspirational... For all the film fans - a long time ago the Art-film evening, then Film-archaic Programme, then Art-cinema, and then, finally, Frosina! A film theatre named after the very first Macedonian feature film!

The boys and girls in YCC knew that Hollywood was a cliché, pure business! The art of film is to be sought elsewhere. With an open heart they embraced the initiative of Pedro Almodovar for creating a pan-European film festival which glorifies the virtues of the European film. Or, if you prefer - they felt an urge to become a part of the cultural politics of the European Union since they simply believed in what Almodovar was promoting - that the future of the European film was in the diversity, the discovery and the openness and that this future depends on all of us! They honestly wanted to leave their own mark in the promotion of such a European film.

For, the European film is not only a geographic qualification!

Films with dominant artistic motivation, films in movement, films in search of differences, films with multilayered meanings. Films with intriguing manu-scripts, films with a new freshness beyond the artistic limits of the past and the present...

European film - a surging sea of author cinematographies fighting for a way to turn the dream into reality.

And so, the boys and girls from YCC have left their own mark in how to turn the dream into reality - they have created CINEDAYS. A festival of the European film! And they have won all the film theatres in Skopje. Including the theatre in the Charismatic CinemFatheque of Macedonia! And without a blink, they have lead us to the 10th edition! Well, HAPPY JUBILEE!

What I found interesting was how those boys and girls last year (i.e. the 9th edition) practically announced their attitude on the praise of the film art - they said: CINEDAYS is fighting against piracy! With each donated pirate DVD the ticket will cost only 50 MKD!

Moreover, an in-between space of innumerable films, programmes, workshops, presentations... and guests! “The Wind that Shakes the Barley” (Ken Loach), “Manderlay” (Lars von Trier), “White Hands” (Szabolcs Hajdu), “Lights in the Dawn” (Aki Kaurismaki), “The Wedding Director” (Marco Bellocchio), “Investiga-tion” (Iglika Trifonova), “Armin” (Ognjen Sviličić), “The Edge of Heaven” (Fatih Akin), “The Class” (Ilmar Raag), “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days” (Cristian Mun-giu), “Warchild” (Christian Wagner), “Alexandra” (Alexandar Sokurov), “Hunger” (Steve McQueen) , “Pandora’s Box” (Yesim Ustaoglu), “Behind the Glass” (Zrinko Ogresta), “The White Ribbon” (Michael Haneke), “The Country Teacher” (Boh-dan Slama), “The Reader” (Stephen Daldry), “Police, Adjective” (Corneliu Porum-boiu), “Broken Embraces” (Pedro Almodovar), “Inside America” (Barbara Eder)... Ah, no more room to list all the films after the screening of which I would run away from people so that I could relish the pain of beauty in silence.

And just to let you know - from 10 to 20 of November I’ll be gone! I’m going to CINEDAYS!

EUROPE’S STRONG OPINIONSThis year, still marked by the financial crisis in Europe, obviously bears a lot of risks for the future of the European film industry. Nevertheless, neighboring Greece, the country most shattered by the crisis, looks back at a very successful year at the international festival circuit – which seems to proof a populist thesis claiming that crisis always enhances creativity. The very same year saw two scandals connected to two popular filmmakers: the Serbian Emir Kusturica leaving the Antalya Film Festival’s jury in last year’s October after having been accused to justify Serbian war crimes, and Lars von Trier involved into a self-made dispute about a cynical statement at a press conference at the Cannes film festival.Turkish cinema-goers currently witness an ideological rivalry in ciema. While the action drama “Valley of the Wolves: Palestine” violently makes propaganda for Turkey’s nationalism, “Be-hzat C.”, another film compiled out of a popular TV criminal series, asks for coming to terms with the youngest history when the country was terrorized by political murders committed by secret police forces, and “Bendeyar” is meant to be one of the first islamic action thrillers. Thus, we face strong opinions on and behind the screens which seems to be something new in our recent film festival landscape, still marked by a high level of historical reflection and social awareness. No wonder that this year’s Cinedays’ competition programme is marked not only by a variety of artistic handwritings but also by extremes when filmmakers draw their conclusions on the condition humaine in Europe. While TolgaÖrneks comedy “Club of Losers” highlights sexual freedom as one means of self-fulfillment, Steve McQueens “Shame” talks about sex addiction.Jessica Haussners “Lourdes” portrays religious rituals as a potential tool for salvation, Vadis Manirakis “Black Field” describes an Orthodox monastery during Otoman times as a hiding place which requires complete assimilation, thus blasting off individual freedom like the occupying forces around. A number of films are marked by the Don Quitochism of their main (anti-)heroes: two urban youngsters lost in the steppe of La Mancha in JonatanCenzuals no budget slacker movie “The Soul of Flies”, three unequal friends touring their country in the Slovenian “A Trip”, a daughter trying to flee her family in the Slovak “The House” – films which comment the existentialistic stagnation of their protagonists with a, sometimes even burlesque, atmosphere of sarcastic irony and often unfore-seeable twists. There is true emotion under an analytical surface: the Czech Vaclav Kadrinka recalls images from his childhood when describing his mother’s tries to leave the Socialist reality of their home country, and VladoŠkafars “Dad” portrays the subtle grief of a father whose pre-adolescent son is about to to cut the cord from the parents. Intense personal stories are often refined with that special kind of realism that contains a dash of deadpan humor, like in the films by the German director Andreas Dresen whose kind of story-telling is still marked by the combination of realism, hu-manism and subtle irony which became a label for the better Eastern German films during Socialism (which, of course, often were facing censorship and proscription).We are looking forward to presenting a programme with clear point of views but subtle (self-)irony; true emotions but analytical discourse; realistic atmosphere but Don Quichote-like anti-heroes – the extremes of a European drama called “finan-cial crisis”, with non-foreseeable results but in the need of personal prospects.

Соджина:Браќата Nero и Miguel не се познаваат, ниту пак чуле еден за друг, сè додека нивниот татко не им напише писмо во кое ги кани на неговиот погреб. Така браќата за прв пат ќе се сретнат на една станица и ќе откријат дека веќе многу одамна на таа станица не поминуваат возови. На тој начин, тие ги почнуваат нивните обиколки околу Meseta и наидуваат на изгорени пејзажи во кои се врежани приказните на нивниот татко. Како што одат кон неговиот погреб, нивното вистинско патување ќе ги зближи, ќе ги вовлече во чуден, имагинарен свет на волшебни величини, потреба по меморија, приказни и соништа, здружени во пријатна самотија. Преку неговата прилично инвентивна поезија, полна со апсурдности, хумор и меланхолија, Cenzual Burley докажува дека поезијата не е креирана од поетски слики, туку од начинот на кој ние го гледаме светот. Тој успева да оствари нискобуџетна продукција со една камера и седум актери. Продуцентот ќе каже : „ Доколку не сте добиле пари за да направите филм, тогаш направете го без пари”. За приказни не се потребни пари, сè додека сте опкружени со луѓе кои размислуваат како вас и го делат вашиот ентузијазам.”

Synopsis: Brothers Nero and Miguel are unaware of each other’s existence; they didn’t even know their father, until he wrote them a letter inviting them to his own funeral. Thus the siblings meet for the very first time at a train station, only to discover that no trains have run through here for years. So they begin their wanderings through the Castillian Meseta, a scorched landscape instilled forever with their father’s stories. As they head for the funeral, their true journey is one that takes them towards each other, drawn from nothing into a strange imaginary world of magical dimensions, a surge of memories, stories and dreams, united by solitude. Through his innovative visual poetry full of absurdity, humour and melancholy, Cenzual Burley proves that poetry is not created in poetic images, but in the way we look at the world. He managed to film his low budget debut with only one camera and a crew of seven. The director’s creed: “If you haven’t got any money, make a film that doesn’t require any. Stories don’t cost anything, so long as you surround yourself with like-minded people who share your enthusiasm.”

Synopsis: Greece, 1654. A seriously wounded Janissary arrives at a cloister situated on a cliff, and the sisters take him in and care for him. Sister Anthi, one of those who tends him, falls in love with the soldier and eventually helps him escape. The central focus of the film does not come out of its historical context but is derived from the relationship between the two main characters and, above all, from the quest for freedom and identity for young Anthi. The initially silent sister, hiding a surprising secret, discovers heretofore unknown desires that lead her to a radically altered view of herself.

Неговата мајка од ден на ден поминува во сè позафатена и побрза дневна рутина. Тој се внесува во истата таа животна рутина, но мајката мора да дејствува сама за да успее во нивното фамилијарно обединување.

Synopsis: The story takes place in Czechoslovakia in 1987. The father has defected to England and the mother and her son are planning to leave the country to reunite with him. The film is told through the eyes of the fourteen year old boy, his rankled look without the veneer of experience and initiation in one day. His mother moves about in an intensified daily routine, mapping it out hour by hour. He catches up with her on that path but she must act alone in order to achieve their reunion.

Соджина:Vile, млада девојка од провинција, се сели во град, понесувајќи со себе големи очекувања за високо образование. Таа изнајмува стан во кој забележува налепница со анархистички симболи и ја запознава сопственичката на станот, Sandra, која има момчешки изглед и секогаш носи маица со анархистички симболи. Двете девојки се спријателуваат, а Vile во силната и секогаш ентузијастична Sandra, ќе препознае одличен водич. Водена од анархистичната филозофија и начин на живеење, ќе се ослободи од нејзината провинцијална срамежливост и стравови, сè додека случајно не запознае членови на панк заедницата кои ќе влијаат врз креирањето на нејзините размислувања. Тоа ќе и помогне да сфати дека анархистичките размислувања на Sandra немаат ништо заедничко со андерграунд политиката на градот.

Synopsis: A young provincial girl, Vile, moves to the city with great expectations about a higher education. She rents an apartment in which she notices a hand-made sticker with anarchy symbols on it, and she meets her landlord, Sandra, a boyish looking girl always wearing a t-shirt with anarchy symbols. The two girls get along so well that since her very first day in the city vile finds a perfect guide in the strong and optimistic Sandra. Under Sandras anarchist philosophy and way of life, vile gets rid of her provincial shyness and fears until she incidentally meets a member of the citys punk community who will change her mind and make her realize that Sandras anarchy has nothing to do with alternative underground culture or politics

Synopsis: Kirsten Dunst’s Justine in von Trier’s masterful MELANCHOLIA is a depressive, as von Trier says he was when he made the film. Von Trier divides the film in two, each entitled with one of the sibling’s names. In the first part, we observe Justine’s rapid decline from radiant bride at a beautiful wedding dinner to a maniacal nightmare in one evening (she deservedly won Best Actress), with Claire attempting to maintain some order amidst the madness. In Part Two, a completely depressed, nearly catatonic Justine returns for nurture to Claire’s estate, scene of the aborted marriage celebration.

Synopsis: Set in Seville’s 1992 Expo Pavilion Soundstage, Carlos Saura presents 21 performances from Spain’s top musicians and dancers. Saura’s particular and personal way of produc-ing “musical cinema” has enabled audiences all around the world to enjoy Spanish art through music, dancing, and incredibly beautiful singing. The performers, ranging from mature to newcomers, include Paco de Lucía, Manolo Sanlúcar, Tomatito and José Mercé, Estrella Morente, Sara Baras, Miguel Poveda, Israel Galván, Rafael Estévez, Nani Paños, Montse Cortés, and Eva la Yerbabuena. They dance and sing amongst giant reproductions of Flamenco artists from different centuries by such painters as Julio Romero de Torres, Zuloaga, and Goya. Oscar-winning cinematographer Vittorio Storaro (Apocalypse Now, The Last Emperor) bathes the performers and sets in superb lighting.

Synopsis: A small town in south Herzegovina, in the wake of the war. He comes back with a new wife who is forty years younger than him, a new Mercedes, a black cat and loads of money. His first successful act of vengeance involves throwing out his ex-wife and son from the house in which they used lived in together. For a while, it looks like Divko is winning and that money can achieve everything. But then, life takes the upper hand.

Synopsis: Once again, the Dardenne brothers use naturalistic means to display a deep-rooted humanity that emanates from those low on society’s totem pole. He is successful with the latter, but his dad, once he encounters him somewhere else, wants nothing to do with him, despite his desperation for parental affection. The kid is in complete denial about the truth and is aggressive toward those who mention it. Fortunately for him, he meets a woman, a hairdresser who provides him with some of the love and protection he needs. As usual, the narrative is pared down to the essentials, which lend an ethereal beauty to an otherwise unpretentious, earthy film.

He dreams of finding his mother, a French war correspondent during the unrest in Yugoslavia – at least that’s what a compassionate carer at the institute claims. Alen and some of the other ward make a little extra money stealing for a local tradesman named Sento. But the situation comes to a head when the new director uncovers Sento’s practices. As a reward for services rendered, Alen wants Sento to get hold of his personal file because it includes his mother’s address. In the end he discovers that the truth is quite different from what he expected. Even in Alen’s comparatively short life, things have happened that should not have. Director Adis Bakrač unfolds the drama of a boy looking for love in a hostile world, wondering what chance a child has, born under tragic circumstances and growing up without parental care among the shadows of the past.

Соджина:Татко и син поминуваат цел ден во шума. Тие рибарат и разговараат со цел да проверат каков е статусот на нивната врска. Возрасниот, таткото, во одговорите на синот ќе забележи самостојност во размислувањето и јасна анализа, што ќе го изненади, а воедно и растажи. Детето се зближува со мајката, со којашто живее по разделбата на неговите родители. Истовремено, тој ја чувствува во себе празнината на татковото отсуство во неговото секојдневие. Можеби солзите ќе го разблажат болното сеќавање и ќе го запечатат овој важен момент на зближување, индиректниот обид да се намали далечината, да се најде решение на недоразбирањата, а пред сè, да се надокнади изгубеното време. Исто така, и трудот да се надополни празнината од пролонгирани премолчувања, земајќи го предвид таткото кој, исто како и неговите соработници, е загрижен за економската криза и несигурните и небезбедни услови за работа, кои ја отежнуваат заработувачката и ја прават неизвесна судбината на нивните синови на материјално ниво.

Synopsis: In Podgorica, Montenegro, Nikola and Nina, married couple, walk through the rainy night. They are going to visit Nina’s parents. Her mother is deadly ill, but everybody decided to hide the truth from the woman. Nikola can’t stand that fact, and tries to convince Nina to tell her mother the truth. But Nina is so distraught, and looks like she’s on the edge of the nervous breakdown

Synopsis: A father and his son spend a whole day in the wood. They fish, talk, check the status of their relation. The adult perceives in the answers of his son autonomy of thought and a lucidity of analysis that surprise and sadden him. The kid has reacted to the separation of his parents getting closer to the mother, with whom he lives. But inside of him, he harbors the sorrow of the father’s absence. Maybe the tears will succeed in diluting the painful remembrances and sealing this important moment of reunion, the implicit at-tempt of shortening the distance, making up the misunderstandings, regaining the lost time. And also the effort of filling the void of the prolonged silences, concerning a father already worried, like his worker colleagues, for the economic crisis and the precarious work conditions that make it difficult to build a future for their sons, also on a material level.

Synopsis: The film consists of three novels united by a story of the picture encompassing three cenuries. The scene of the first story is set at the end of 19-th century in an old family house. Head of the family acts as if his deceased wife was still alive and lived with him. The scene of the second story is set in 20th century, against the background of the Second World War. Wife of a Soviet general finds her husband dead in the apartment of his mistress. The mistress is faced with the danger of execution by a firing squad. The third story (21st century) is about a young resident of town forced to betray his principles because of love.

Synopsis: Niko Pirosmanashvili, a self-taught painter living in Kakheti arrives to the capital and tries his hand at running shop. He fails to become a good merchant instead he takes up painting and paints almost all diners in the city without knowing anything about the value of his painting. It takes two western educated Georgian painters to appreciate Nikala’s paintings but it leads to his subsequent estrangement for his fellow colleagues and rest of the society.

Соджина:Shaban-aga живее во мало село во Македонија со неговата жена и неговите пријатели, додека неговата посвоена ќерка Saadet живее во Истанбул со нејзините три деца и парализиран маж за кој таа мора да се грижи. Животите на Shaban-aga и Saadet се вкрстуваат неочекувано откако Saadet ќе отпатува во селото на сунет церемонија за нејзиниот син. Таа оди на тој пат без некоја голема желба. По нејзиното враќање, Shaban-aga се сели во Истанбул, на нејзино инсистирање. Но, се покажува невозможно тој да се адаптира на животот во големиот град и неговите правила. Иако тој сè уште се чувствува како„ гостин” во Истанбул, татковината за која чувствува голема носталгија, всушност, е одамна изгубена. Неинформиран за овој факт, Shaban-aga при првата можност планира да се пресели откако сфаќа дека големиот град не е за него.

Соджина:Посмртните останки на еден французин се заменети и по грешка испратени во Албанија. Ќерката на човекот, Jolie и нејзината полу-ќерка, Orsola патуваат до едно мало село во близина на албанско-грчката граница, каде што се среќаваат со новинарот Genti, кој им помага да го разјаснат случајот. Грчки националисти подигаат гробишта на војници убиени во Втората светска војна, за на тој начин да се зголеми нивниот број, а со тоа и можноста за територијални присвојувања. Тие ги крадат телата на албанците и повторно ги погребуваат како грци, во соработка со локалниот свештеник.

Synopsis: Şaban Agha lives in a small Macedonian village with his wife and friends in a small town while his stepdaughter Saadet lives in the Istanbul with her three children and paralysed husband whom she has to take care of. The lives of Şaban Agha and Saadet intersect unexpectedly, after Saadet travels to the village for her son›s circumcision ceremony and without the least desire, Şaban Agha moves to Istanbul at Saadet›s insistence upon her return. However, it proves impossible for him to adapt to city life and the rules of the system. Though he still considers himself a “guest” in Istanbul, the land he is homesick for is in fact long lost. Unaware of this fact, Şaban Agha plans to move back at the earliest opportunity, as he comes to realize that he will not be able to manage in the city.

Соджина:Краток филм базиран на приказната „Девојчето со кибритчињата“ (13-14 годишна возраст), за бездомното сираче кое наместо да проси, продава кибритчиња покрај улицата. Филмот ја следи смртта на девојчето што умира од студ на Новогодишната ноќ.

Соджина:Ветка е 40 годишна жена, самохрана мајка на две деца, без постојано вработување. Сопругот починал, а таа заедно со 15-годишниот син Симчо и 3-годишната Бубе, живее во диво прикриена колипка-провизориум. Мијат автомобили, собираат стари работи покрај контејнери, едвај се прехрануваат. На земјиштето на кое се наоѓа нивната колипка ќе се гради нов комплекс со згради. Се е уништено, тие остануваат на улица. Симчо кој бујно расте и се созрева, одбира деликвентски пат кон социјална правда. Една ноќ тој провалува во дуќан... но е фатен и е испратен во поправен дом за малолетни деликвенти. „Образ“ е краток филм за долгите страдања на луѓето од социјалното дно. Топла приказна за загрозениот образ на ризични групи од населението. Но и своевидна ода за моралната вистина и човечката издржливост на една само навидум!- кревка жена. Таа се бори, таа опстојува и покрај сите подмолни удари на животот. Да го зачува семејството, да го прехрани, да ги изведе децата на вистинскиот пат. Нејзиниот Симчо, кој заодел по страна патека, не е доцна да се врати меѓу чесните. Неговиот прв грабеж ќе биде негов последен судир со законот. Или можеби не?!! Образ е стилизирана мини- сага за чистотата и девственоста на човечкиот образ и овие метежни времиња, кога многу стожерни вредности се ничкосани од транзицијата. Со речиси документарна животна уверливост, доловени се потресни сцени за маргинализираните луѓе кои, на наш заеднички срам, битиствуваат покрај нас, без вистинска шанса да се ресоцијализираат во опшеството. Филмски апел, уметнички крик, горчливо сведоштво, дамка врз образот на времето.

Synopsis: A short movie based on the story “The little match girl” by Hans Christian-Andersen. The main character in the story is a young girl (13 – 14 years old), an homeless orphan who instead of begging is selling matches on the side of the street. The movie follows the death of the little girl that dies from cold on New Years Eve.

Synopsis: Vetka is a 40 year-old woman, a single mother of two children, without a steady job. Her husband had died, and together with her 15 year-old son Simco and the 3 year-old daugh-ter Bube lives in a concealed temporary cottage. They wash cars, gather old items from the garbage, barely able to feed themselves. On the land of their cottage a new complex of apartment building is being built. Everything is destroyed; they end up on the street. Simco, who grows up fast and matures, chooses a delinquent path to social justice. One night he breaks into a shop, only to be caught and sent to a house of correction for underage delinquents. “Cheek” is a short film about the long tribulations of the people on the bottom of society. A warm story about the imperiled cheek of the risk groups of the population. But it is also a peculiar ode to the moral truth and the human endurance of an only seemingly fragile woman. She fights, she perseveres, beside all the malignant blows of life. To keep her family together, to feed it, to bring her children on the right path. For her Simco, who has gone astray, it is not too late to come back among the decent. His first robbery is his last clash with the law. Or maybe not?! Cheek is a stylised mini-saga about the purity and the innocence of the human cheek in these busy times in which many pivotal values are crashed by the transition. With an almost documentary plausibility of life, it depicts moving scenes from the lives of the marginalized people who, to our disgrace, are living amongst us, without the proper chance to reintegrate in the society. A film appeal, an artistic cry, a bitter witness, a stain on the cheek of time.

Synopsis: “People Without a Country” is a documentary about the life of Vera Foteva, a hero partisan from Eagean Macedonia. Picturing her life story during the civil war in Greece, terible interogation in Soviet Russia, and agony in Siberia gulags after the war reflects the destiny of a whole nation. This is a story about people which ideals were betrayed because of the bargainings of the big nations. At the end those people lost everithyng, including their homeland.

The aim of this organization is to help movie directors and docu-mentary directors, and directors on TV productions that are following European rules (such as: possible funds to apply, legal and financial regulations, media shows, festivals and industry markets) with an aim to increase their knowledge for produc-tion and co-production in Europe

MINI EAVE MACEDONIAThis workshop is intended for Macedonian film producers that want to develop their project as European co-productions.Kristina Trapp (Chief Executive, EAVE, Luxembourg), will give a short information on the possibilities that the organization of EAVE offers to its participants, the train-ings they provide as well as the possibilities of receiving scholarships.Riina Sildos (Producer, Amrion, Estonia) will present the principal of engaging in european co-producition, in fact, where and how to find an qualified producer, how to attract partners needed for collaboration, the methods of negotiating with fi-nancers, materials that are needed for presenting a project, the right way of pitch-ing etc.On behalf of the expert Sarah Calderon (Karma films, Spain), the basic marketing rules will be presented which one producer can apply in his project. In the first part, there will be presentation of the already know “business to business (B2B) tools”, where few things will be said on their rightful use, as in the second part the “busi-ness to consumer (B2C) tools” will be presented, tools that enable one producer to put a professional marketing plan for attracting the audience. The participants with a film project will have the opportunity with personal meet-ings with the experts.

OPERATION KINO Operation Kino is a common effort of four film festivals from our region, namely: Transylvania International Film Festival, Sofia International Film Festival, Sarajevo Film Festival and Istanbul Film Festival who deliver, throughout the year, a part of their program and atmosphere to audiences in other towns in their respective countries.

Operation Kino is accessing new, wider audiences for theatrical distribution of foreign and European films in the emerging territories in Southeast Eu-rope, as well as widening the reach of films with weaker circulation poten-tial, originating from countries with a smaller audio-visual output, through the use of new technologies with clear focus on assisting the development of the next generation of audiences and talent.

Individual programs differ from country to country, from place to place, but the basis is the same – quality program and festival experience of film-watching are a guarantee that the audience will return in a movie theatre, open-air theatre outside days of festivals and festival towns.For this audience to thrive, and, alongside them, a generation of authors who understand their preferences, apart from the most recognizable art house titles, Operation Kino also includes short films, made within projects of the aforementioned Festivals, intended for young talents film production.
