GIEP Follow Up AppointmentsOur fall GIEPs are almost completed!  

If YOU did not yet have a conference this fall, you will need to stop in to the GOAL office TODAY during your lunch period to schedule a follow-up appointment to your GIEP conference, which was done in the Spring.  

Sign-ups for these meetings are directly outside the GOAL room door.    

You must sign up for this meeting TODAY ~ ONLY if you did not have a GIEP conference this fall.   Here is a list of students who should be stopping by our office to sign up for an appointment today.

This year in GOAL there will be:

Activity Days &

 Business Days 

Activity Days will generally be on A days.  On Activity Days, GOAL will offer Game Days, Puzzle Days, Suduko Days, Anagram Days, Duct Tape Days, Free Days and more! 

Business Days will generally be on B days.  On Business Days the GOAL office will be open for you to tend to any GOAL business needs you might have, such as turning in permission slips, picking up forms or consulting with a teacher. 

Just check the A/B or Closed signs hanging outside GOAL each day during your lunch period for more information!

If you brought in a permission slip and check to come to Peter Pan this Friday with GOAL, there is enough room for you to attend!Please tell your teachers you are coming and find out what work you may be missing, dress for the theater and meet us at the bottom of the cafeteria steps on Friday no later than 8:45 am.  Remember to bring enough cash to enjoy brunch at Eat N Park first as you will be missing your lunch.  :)

The Brain Program is next Monday!Presented by the Department of Neurobiology University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine Where:  NAI Library during periods 3 and 4                  (9:10 - 10:35 a.m.) You will find out how our brains function through hands-on work stations led by the University of Pittsburgh staff.  Students will also have time to ask questions about current research regarding: reaction time,schizophrenia, Altzheimers, concussions and memory loss.

Dr. Dan Ding PhD Asst Prof, Dept of Rehabilitation Science & TechnologyThis is a partnership between CMU & Pitt to create revolutionary technologies that improve and sustain quality of life using intelligent systems.

12 pm Nanotech WorkshopStudents experiment with paper and clothing to explore the wonders of nanotechnology, discover why nanoparticles pose health concerns, and engage in a unique LEGO competition to simulate challenges of working at the nano scale. At the end, students demonstrate what they learned in a lightening round quiz!

Moblie Lab Challenge – Can Biotech Solve the Energy CrisisCome aboard the Pitt Mobile Science Lab and go bioprospecting (searching for living organisms) to locate enzymes that could help us turn the cellulose in waste paper, wood, and plant material into ethanol we can use to fuel our cars, homes, and businesses. Students will prepare extracts from various biological sources and test whether they contain the enzymes needed to turn cellulose into sugar that can be made into biofuel. They also will learn how biotechnologists design industrial processes using organisms like enzymes to create products such as sweeteners, laundry detergents, and medicines.Our challenge to students: Will YOU be the bioengineer who finds the best source of the needed biofuels enzyme?

Student will also have an opportunity to visit the: Tech Zone  Interactive Corporate and Higher Education Exhibits will focus on Pittsburgh's growth industries:Biotechnology, Nanotechnology, Robotics, Advanced Materials Processes, Environmental Technology, and Information Technology.

MOCK TRIAL Join us as an attorney or witness and be a part of the MOCK TRIAL in January at Duquesne

Law School.  

Our case this year will be available in early November.  We are doing the 2012 case which has not yet been released by PABAR.org  We have 5 one-hour meetings after school to prepare your team for the trial.

How do you join the MOCK TRIAL TEAM? 

Complete an application and submit it to the GOAL Office ASAP.  There wil be 24 spots for lawyers and witnesses. The case and the application form will be available on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 in front of the GOAL office.  Read the case and all the directions.  Submit your application ASAP to get one of the 24 spots! Our first meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 22rd from 2:30 -3:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.

Students wishing to participate in the Science Bowl will be required to complete a preliminary exam. Team member will be selected based upon results of this exam.   The test date will be posted in the GOAL office and on the GOAL website.
