Abstract

Linux Foundation executive director Jim Zemlin shares his thoughts on the state and strengths of open source technology during these unique and challenging times. Open source is a key part of our lives, and we as open source community members, play an integral role in having open source technology be leveraged in a positive and effective way as a part of global support efforts. The Linux Foundation and our communities are continuing to lead these efforts across standardization, health response, big data, machine learning, and financial services. We are continuing to bring open source communities together through virtual experience events and have expanded our mentorship and training programs to do our part in educating the next generation of open source developers and providing opportunities for individuals who need help during this epidemic.

Since 2010, we have awarded over 6000 scholarships for millions of dollars of specialized
