JOHN – THE PROTAGONIST

John is a man in his early thirties. He is a rather average man, with

little to no discerning features. He dresses smartly yet never

sharply. He likes good music, but not great music. We’re talking

like Ed Sheeran and stuff. If there was just one single word you

could use to describe John, it would undoubtedly be ‘average’. Due

to these particularly vanilla features, he never had much luck with

the opposite sex, though this never really bothered him. However,

in recent times, he has felt a feeling quite unlike any he has

experienced before; an emptiness, a yearning for more. He is sure

what he needs in his life is love. Or is it?

PLOT SYNOPSIS

John is a man in his thirties who has never needed love. Though it

is now that he begins to realise that maybe he is missing

something. Gathering up all of his confidence and guile, he decides

to give speed dating a try. However, we soon discover that John is

not as compatible as he may think he is. Coming to an epiphany,

he realises that maybe it’s not love that he’s missing after all!

TARGET AUDIENCE

As it’s a light-hearted rom-com romp, our short film is aimed at 20+ year-olds, as our research

has shown that people of and above this age (especially females) enjoy romantic, upbeat

movies the most. Although Hugh Grant won’t be involved.

SETTINGS

We have discussed many possible settings such as youth clubs,

pubs, community halls, or other public hirable places where speed

dating events take place, and are leaning more towards a

community centre. On top of this, we will also need a set for John’s

apartment, though that won’t be an issue as all three of us have

houses that are available for use.
