Dear Parishioners
‘A real concern is that liturgy and social justice tend to be treated as two unrelated activities in the life of the Church…the equality we know at the table of Christ’s Body must be celebrated at all other tables.’ - Cardinal Tom Williams, 1997.
This week marks Social Justice Week with its theme ‘Enabling Communities: Everyone Has a Part to Play.’ Our Kapiti L’Arche Community and our Kaumatua Tuki Takiwa feature in the discussion booklet produced by Caritas. The booklet also has a very helpful ‘Accessibility Checklist’ for making our new church accessible for all in the community. While barriers to access in our buildings can be the result of poor design most of the barriers to inclusivity are within our hearts and in our own lack of openness to possibilities within the Body of Christ.
“Everyone has a part to play, reminds each one of us of our responsibility to change attitudes, remove barriers, make space for each other and mould relationships of respectful equality and interdependence in membership and ministry so we may come to rejoice in our God-given diversity and the uniqueness of each member.”
With every blessing in Christ, Michael McCabe Parish Priest
Prayer Focus: That we, as a parish, may always welcome all people, regardless of their status, into our parish church.
