Saturday 15th August

The Men's one-day Retreat this year will be held at the Parish Centre on the Feast of the Assumption, Saturday 15th August starting with Mass at 9:30. The retreat will be led by Fr Brian Cummings sm on the theme “Pondering in the Heart: A Faith Response to Living in a Covid-19 World”.

Lunch will be provided, with finish at 3:30.

Enquiries to Glen McCullough 2931747 or Peter Ryan 902 6330.

Thank you

Peter and I wish to sincerely thank so many of you for all you did for us both during the 4 weeks I was in

hospital. Your kind phone calls to Peter, the delicious meals you provided for him, your cards, flowers and

visits to me. All these gestures to us both made us realise how blest we are to belong to a loving, caring and

prayerful parish family. My journey at times was tough but I was always aware of a blanket of prayer and kindness surrounding me.

Thank you from our hearts.

Marie-Louise & Peter Blockley

We offer our condolences and

prayerful sympathy to the

family of Judith McCallum whose

funeral will be held on Saturday.

May she rest in the peace of Christ

It has all changed...

To arrive at this point in the history of Our Lady Of Kapiti Parish is a breath-taking achievement; you only have to listen

to the reaction of someone who has walked into our church for the first time. The marriage of parts of the old parish-

es brought together in the most beautiful of simple functionality.

Yes, we have arrived, and so to speak we are in our starting blocks, ready to move into the future.

There were a bunch of people with unique talents who have helped get us to this point, entrepreneurial talents,

financial and constructional talents, and in every other ability that is required to complete something as magnificent

as our church and parish complex.

But to those who got us here their race is run and like Fr Michael they deserve to put their feet up and enjoy the

results of their toil.

What does lay ahead is a whole new game where new talents and energies are required, and it would be nice to think

in transition that we could knock a couple of decades off the age of our volunteers.

Here’s the plea

The weekend of 21 and 22 November is the Feast of Christ the King, this is going to be our

special weekend of celebrations for the opening of our new church, seeing that Covid

defeated our original timetable.

It will be a diverse programme typifying the diversity of our parish, an opportunity to get

new people involved to make this event work and to pick up the ball to assist this

Our Lady of Kapiti Parish to move into the future, having a bit of fun along the way too.

Bob Houston (retiring Parish Chair)

I am the commentator at both Masses this weekend, if you would like a chat.

The kingdom is here, it returns, it struggles to flourish anew. Christ’s resurrection everywhere calls forth seeds of that new world; even if they are cut back, they grow again, for the resurrection is already secretly woven into the fabric of this history.

Dear Parishioners

During Term 3 our Parish School focus on a further Principle from Catholic Social Teaching – the Principle of Participation. Each Term the staff and students will be weaving a social teaching principle through everything that we are doing. Last Term was Stewardship and next Term is the Common Good. Below is a small briefing for the teachers to guide their planning and thinking as to what participation is and what it can look like for our children. It fleshes out the letter written by our Parish Chair Bob Houston.

Together with the principles of Partnership, Protection, and Justice, Participation is also one of the guiding principles of the Treaty of Waitangi.

Father Michael McCabe

Participation

Everyone should be able to contribute and use the talents that God has given them.

CALL TO FAMILY, COMMUNITY, AND PARTICIPATION The person is not only sacred but also social. How we organise our society—in economics and politics, in law and policy—directly affects human dignity and the capacity of individuals to grow in community. Marriage and family are the central social institutions that must be supported and strengthened, not undermined. We believe people have a right and a duty to participate in society, seeking together the common good and wellbeing of all, especially the poor and vulnerable.

The Catholic social teaching principle of Participation is recognising that everyone has a part to play in our communities – our parish faith community and the wider community.

Promoting participation - nāu te rourou, nāku te rourou - means recognising we each have something unique and important to contribute to society.

We are called on to be active members of our local and global communities.

What can we do to encourage participation?

Engender confidence in our children to speak up in class and share their ideas.

Encourage a mindset of ‘everyone doing their share of the work’ – no one sits back and gets carried.

Help children to extend their comfort zones by challenging them in new situations – physically,

academically, socially and spiritually.

Encourage children to stand up for each other- those who are confident to stand up for those who are shy

or reserved by nature - so that everyone gets to have a say.

We have a duty to share our talents as they are a gift from God given for the building up of the Body of

Christ.

Welcome new members to our school and parish community.

Take time to get to know others – the elderly, the young, visitors to our school and parish.
