With the roll back of the clock to the winter time the boating season

2015 has come to an end. The boats are massively winterized on the goat

and the bridges/locks are not or partly operated, also unmistakable

symbolizing to the boat owner that sails trough during the winter that the

transition to a next season is a fact.

Many plans are forged, both by the boat owner that is refurbishing his boat

himself during this silent months as the boat owner who has transferred his

boat in expert hands for work to be carried out or a refit. That’s the great

thing about the winter, something is brewing. Decisions are made, routes

are literally and figuratively mapped out, price cards are stuck on boats, ads

are posted and are widely viewed. Nice how the water sports enthusiasts

are facing the cold wind and biting cold in anticipation of and in preparation

for the first sun rays!

This past season was a very positive season for us. The sales in terms of

occasions is (with another 2 months in sight) unprecedented high! The

past few years we have been a top seller compared to the average sale

in the boat market. Match or increase the success seemed a very high bar.

The sales season started slowly, the summer left long in coming and the

boats were launched late. However, once on stream sales rose beyond all

our expectations, also at this time there are boats sold weekly.

We welcome the fact that the boats market as a whole has attracted, the

sailing enthusiast has renewed the space to fulfill his dream. Also in terms

of new construction; we currently

have 6 boats in construction. The

requests for quotes is increasing,

the ability to own a boat custom

built starting from € 130.000,- re-

mains surprising for many. For us

is the putting together, building

and delivering of each yacht an

experience. Each customer, each

pair, every boat, a unique and

interesting story.

Our insulated indoor covered

Hall is full (on shore are already

bucks made ready for the boat

owner who wants to stable his

boat guarded at a low rate) and

the folders holding commands

on work to be carried out during

this winter abound. All in all, this

great season just left us in need

of a word of thanks… to you! For

Preface

your confidence and your choice, in and for us. So

thank you! We promise you to continue betting

on the way as we have done in recent years. Hard

work supplies trust, this you have shown us. And

hard work delivers confidence, that we have (and

we will continue to) shown you!

In this edition of our magazine you can read that

also during the winter months we can be of value

for you. What do you think of spraying your boat?

Or extending the warranty on your new gadgets

through letting them be built in by our certified

mechanics?

Happy reading, fine winter months and until spring!

We are Andre and Monique, at the time of purchase of our Pedro

Levanto 32’ in 2008 we were 55 years young. Since 5 years we had a

50-year-old Super Van Craft which we bought to get a taste of sailing.

That was better than expected, except for the maintenance on the old

- wooden - superstructure. So we were ‘passive’ in the market for an

alternative.

The click came on Boat Gent where a Pedro Levanto 32’ was exhibited. It

was a revelation to see how much inner space could be found in a boat well

under 10 meter. There canals and locks frequently appeared on our travels,

a spacious and safe gangway was important; not in the least for our dog

and our grandchildren. At the time, we still had our hope upon them... now

they are a fact. Also the firm and thoughtful bumpers, accordantly advance

they are nice to look at, were a plus. We learned that it helps avoid many

words on board. Finally we went for a layout with the galley in the back and

bedroom up front. The Galley dinette could be transformed into a well

sized double bed and the adjoining kitchen into a laundry room. Shower

and toilet were neatly between the front cabin owners and the rear Galley/

bedroom. For the few times that we have guests on board plenty of comfort

and privacy. All that for a fairly attractive price .. we decided after a 2nd visit

to the exhibition and the boat we would go for it.

We are now seven years and 900 hours of sailing further on our Circe and

we did not complain for one minute on our purchase. Still the guests we

occasionally have on board speak of a ‘space miracle’ and the boat has

already fulfilled his promises, and will no doubt continue to do so for

Sailing Record

many years to come. Another few years and

retirement will smile upon us - than the number of

annual hours of sailing will increase dramatically.

We’re already looking forward to our first long trip

(Moselle?).

On our first holiday with a large group of boats, 21

to be exact, we have written a sailing report which

we gladly share with you.

We registered to join VVW in the direction

of Hautmont in June for the annual (port)

celebrations. The group departed from Kanne but

due to furlough stints we decided to join up along

the way: appointment in Marchienne-au-pont.

Following the annual sailing reunion tour in

Antwerp we had left our Circe for a month in Klein

Willebroek, this became our starting point for our

vacation. The intention was to tour throughout

Brussels to Marchienne. Two other boats joined

us on this journey and we were all set to the

departure on Friday, June 12th.

The tour went smoothly and Brussels was already

behind us around noon. We steamed fiercely

ahead (well ... at 8 km / h due to a 62 tonner in

our company) to the lock of Lot who had some

unfortunate news. The lock was broken and the

time needed to repair uncertain (bad luck) and in

case this problem could be solved we still could

not go further anyway; the police and fire depart-

ment were looking for a body in the water that

was seen floating in the lock and had banned

all passage (double bad luck!). Quite exciting

but nothing to see because of a sealed perime-

ter: police blue ribbon with matching manpower

prevented any passage. It took three hours to

fix both unlucky situations, then it was already

after 18:00 and the sailing enthusiasm somewhat

tempered. Since the dock where we had moored

was quite pleasant, it was decided to spend the

night. Meanwhile, our group had grown to four: a

Brit joined our (little) convoy.

Family Dehuysser Vrolix from Lovenjoel (Belgium)

Page 13: Pedro Magazine edition 3, November 2015

Family Dehuysser Vrolix from Lovenjoel (Belgium)

On Saturday we carried on. Due to the travel

company having the sum of 4 already Ittre worked

quite well, we just had to wait for 2 other yachts

and then we were able to lock-up. Ronquières

came in sight with a green light. We were told

to close-up as soon as possible because with

our four yachts we were able to join a River Tour

- otherwise we faced a four hours waiting period

before the next available bin. Safe and sound in

the bin the lock door was shut immediately and we

could up the slope. Once above

the group split: One wanted to

be as fast as possible in Thuin

and went on straight away, the

British just wanted to get as

far as possible and took it up a

notch, the third boat and Circe

sailed into Seneffe (where 10

visitors would moor that day). It

was quite exciting when a Dutch

company commissioned by

Napoleon passed through the

port, on the way to take in his

stand for the battle of Water-

loo. Luckily it was warm weather

and they only robbed available

supplies of liquor.

Sunday we went to Marchienne-au-pont

without further problems, where the entire fleet of

Hautmont VVW displayed on the mooring docks.

The advised dinner at the Greek wasn’t a success:

after two hours of waiting still no sign of food

and the only explanation was, that the cook had

become unwell. The bulk of the group went back

to the boat without food ... a couple stopped at

a Hallal fryingshop, where in five minutes a bowl

of fries was served. Monday as a group on to the

Sambre. At the first small lock of the Sambre It

faltered because we were to split into groups of

2-3 boats, but once past this first lock it went very

smoothly: extremely friendly and enthusiastic

lock keepers operated the lock with passion in

their hearts to get us through quickly. The original

destination was Thuin but once there the dock

was already full so we went to Lobbes where

we had the docks to ourselves. Andre (the local

harbor master on duty) helped us all to electricity

and water and the VVW tent was set up - we

stayed there for two nights and on the 2nd evening

a ‘Gamba-party’ was held.

From Lobbes we went to

Hautmont: meanwhile the

groups tactic was known by

everyone, the lock staff was

still as enthusiastic as the day

before and against the (Thurs-

day) afternoon we were moored

in Hautmont: a port to treat with

respect! For 30 EUROS per boat

for 3 days (or more) berthed

with electricity and water,

access to three buffets,

two champagne parties

and free use of all

attractions in the city (including

a circus, a carnival that in size

looked like the sinksenfoor /

South funfair, a beach, ... too

much to mention). Not least,

also good weather was included! The party started

and opened with a first speech to indicate that an

agreement had been signed that morning to open

the Sambre again in 2020. The enthusiasm could

not stop. The Saturday night concert washed away

in the rain, but the sun came out for the rest of

the party as promised. The whole was festively

concluded on Sunday with an evening concert of

Daniel Guichard and a grand fireworks display.

The sun broke down on Monday and the rain took

back its piece and then kept us going moisty all

day. But as of Tuesday this problem was resolved

and the return trip was started under a watery sun

Page 15: Pedro Magazine edition 3, November 2015

Pedro Magazine • Edition 3 • 2015page 15

.. however did his best and quite quickly broke

through on the return trip to accompany us the

whole time.

For us towards the end of the holiday, for

others the beginning of a holiday on the

Sambre or a tour to Paris. For us a nice tour back to

Seneffe where our Circe will stay. Meanwhile,

there are people who have to go back to work ...

unfortunately (though we both like to work the

other years).

Theo Bruinsma, Director of TBS, which is based in Sijbrandaburen Friesland started his

company, which he led from a workshop at home, in 1990. In this period the company

was still called TBS Cleanpolish and mostly engaged themselves in various activities

mainly focused on the automotive sector and partly in the maritime domain. You can

think of stainless steel custom parts and specials.

In short time, there was much demand for luxury stainless steel products from the maritime sector. TBS distinguished himself by properties such as craftsman-ship and by fast and customer-oriented act, characteristics who are still leading in the current company. It soon became clear that TBS Cleanpolish could not meet the demand from the maritime sector from his current

work place and thus expand-ed the company to a nearby commercial building (the old dairy of Sijbrandaburen). This was accompanied by more staff and the name change to TBS stainless steel industry.

Nowadays TBS still carries out business from this location which now on several fronts has been extended. So the company has

different internal workshops to let the various disciplines exist efficient and professional.

TBS distinguishes itself in the market by responding quickly and flexible to customer require-ments and is fully equipped to work on location, what is always advantageous to the schedule. By an excellent price/quality ratio and planning oriented work, TBS works

for many leading Yachtbuilders all over the Netherlands.

Although the maritime sector is the core business for TBS, the company also has a division which specializes in for exam-ple custom parts for shop fittings or civil engineering. For more information and the various possibilities please go to www.tbs-rvs.nl.

(seagoing) the Levanto 38’ does not restrict you to sailing on rivers and

inland waterways. The choice is yours!!

In the Levanto-series the successful blend of tradition and innovation

found a new balance. With its compact design the Levanto 32 ‘ is a

surprisingly spacious ship. The innovative layout and its elegant but

powerful lines immediately give you that Pedro feeling.

Pedro Marin 30

The Marin 30’ is a view to behold on the water. The bow gives the Marin

its very own unique character; ‘Typically Dutch’ some say. This double

hard chinned model has excellent sailing qualities; with a continuous keel

under the boat, the Marin really knows how to hold its course. The

low-maintenance 86 hp Perkins diesel engine produces the propulsion.

With its low revs, this engine has an extremely low fuel consumption at

cruising speed. Enjoy carefree cruising with a Marin!

Its ingenious design gives the Pedro Marin 30’ compact dimensions but yet

plenty of interior space. The carefully designed layout not only allows for

six berths, but also provides enormous amounts of cupboard and storage

space. Ample standing height in the lounge, kitchen, and aft cabin makes the

interior space very comfortable.

The interior of the Marin is of warm and durable teak. The beautiful cooking

facility has all mod cons as well as plenty of easily accessible storage space.

The Marin is available as the Cruise or Comfort Edition. There are also many

other individual options to choose from. For example, a practical carpet or

luxury Formica floor with a teak pattern; anything goes!

All the comforts of home in 12.50 & 14.50 metres

Pedro LibertyIn a new boating concept, Pedro is bringing the

comforts of your own home to the water - without

restrictions. The Pedro Liberty means freedom of

living and mobility.

The starting point of the concept is maximum

comfort and convenience. For example, the floor of

this new boat is on one level. The superstructure is

oblong with straight walls, which makes optimum

use of the living area. The first model, which will be

12.5m long, has a living area of more than 30 m2 (!)

plus a comfortable spacious deck on the front of the

boat. The client can determine the layout to his own

specifications. The interior can be filled with furniture

and kitchen appliance, just as you’re used to at home.

The boat has a steel hull and a composite

superstructure with a high insulation value. It has

standard a central heating system and additionally

floor heating in the bathroom. This, including

double glazing in the maintenance free frames

makes the ship suitable for use 365 days a year.

The ship was designed together with Martin

Bekebrede, a well-known designer of motor yachts

for many years. The excellent sailing properties

of a Pedro were an important condition for this

boat, too. The underwater hull is designed without

making concessions, and that is a distinct

difference with houseboats for example.

window frames and double glazing. This makes the

insulation value extremely high. Your sailing

season can be extended and opens the possibility

to be on the H2home all year around.

The H2home has been developed for pure enjoyment. Designed like a

holiday bungalow to explore lakes and canals. The H2home is easily

manoeuvrable and therefore for everyone, who really wants to enjoy

their holidays. The flexible layout in the H2home makes it a boat with many

In recent years there has been plenty of media attention to the increase

in the number of empty spaces in the marinas. Likewise the holiday parks,

whom also had to deal with the after effects of the crisis. One of the

solutions to be able to fill in the blanks seemed to offer by depositing

houseboats as rental object. Most providers realized pretty quickly that

this plan is not easy to accomplice due to its need of permits.

We were asked by multiple parties to offer a solution. A rentable object for

which no license is needed had to be realized, keeping in mind that a lot

of profit had to be gained by independence of the seasons. Now we are of

course a shipbuilding company, we have been over 40 years. So we have

sought the solution in a boat as a home on the water.

Aren’t these yet in the market? Yes, however, these are usually not

certified as a boat. Our property though! So this may be moored on each

location. Does the House fit within the box? That is taken into account by

setting the width of the House on 4 metres. The independence of the season is

guaranteed by applying an exceptionally high insulation value. Sun or snow,

this House is rentable. For investors among you an important point because

it ensures a high efficiency. The return is, of course, also depending on the

costs; from both the construction and the maintenance. To ensure a long

life time is chosen for quality materials which are also maintenance-free.

We build these homes for under € 50.000,-. How much below it? That also

depends on the quantity you are required in connection with the to purchase

materials.

As you come to expect from us these houses are

also built from A to Z with us on the yard. Because

of this, we guarantee the high quality! On each new

Pedro we provide 5 year warranty, so also on this

A new life for an old Pedro

Refit Pedro 1000, the story of the family Shooter

Myself and Carol became partners in 2011 whilst

on vacation in the Netherlands. We married in

January 2015 in the presence of our 4 children,

in England. We both seeked excitement and

adventure in our new relationship, myself a

retired Mechanical Engineer in the oil industry

and Carol retired from self-employment.

My new wife suggested many opportunities

including: buying a canoe to paddle all over

England, or buying a tandem bicycle to pedal all

over England, or buying a narrow boat to sail all

over England!

Eventually we agreed to find a cabin cruiser

and relocate to the Netherlands, a country we

both love. But, a suitable cabin cruiser appeared

unaffordable, as we needed lots of space to live abroad, and good headroom

as we are both quite tall.

So after a rethink we set off in search of a ‘project’ and would use our skills

and energy to refurbish an affordable boat. But not much luck. Every boat

was either too expensive or beyond repair, until we ventured into the Pedro

sales yard!

I knew of ‘Pedro’ but associated the name with expensive boats. The sales

director, Roelof, quickly identified our criteria, and took us to a rather forlorn

and tired Pedro 10.50 meter boat called ‘Plaisance’ of 1977. A thoroughbred

Pedro, good headroom, spacious, sound hull, solidly built, good engine, but

in need of much attention both to refurbish and modernise, but we liked!

Roelof negotiated a good price and insisted we do not agree to buy for 2

days, whilst we consider the deal. Thence, we bought ‘Plaisance’.

The Pedro people offered us the rental of a heated hall for our

refurbishment plans, and importantly, full expert advice on every stage of

the project. We therefore rented our house out in the UK and hired a small

apartment in Hoogezand and began our work on ‘Plaisance’. With tools and

material brought from the UK, work proceeded very well.

About this time, Carol was diagnosed with breast cancer. But with our chins

up we agreed to push on with ‘Plaisance ’at the same time as dealing with

the illness.

The boat at purchase

Nigel and Carol proud of the Interior after modernization

Page 30: Pedro Magazine edition 3, November 2015

Pedro Magazine • Edition 3 • 2015page 30

During this difficult period, we received lots of

support and encouragement from all our new

friends at Pedro. After several trips back to the UK,

for surgery, Carol was given the ‘all clear’ early

August.

By now, we had been taught many new skills at

Pedro. How to paint a boat to the ‘Pedro spec’,

how to cut new teak panels that fit ‘first time’, how

to lay a vinyl floor, how to create good looking

cabin soles (decks) and how to apply deck paint

correctly. Just a few of skills that ‘Pedro’ shared

with us.

The result is, in our opinion, a fine example of

A new life for an old Pedro

bringing a rather tired and dated boat back to life,

at a fraction of the cost of buying a boat of similar

condition.

With some sadness we have now left the ‘Pedro

family’. But with great happiness we embark on

the next stage of our adventure on board our fully

refurbished and very proud looking thoroughbred,

our Pedro-Boat ‘Plaisance’.

Fans of the Elfstedenroute can sail this last part of this route. Visit the

attractive northern Frisian cities and enjoy the beautiful scenery along the

way.

Sailing the entire Elfstedenroute is a long-held wish for many. The route

was already sailable for the main part. The section between Berltsum

(Berlikum) via Bartlehiem to Leeuwarden remained a difficult part. This ‘Hell

of the North’ became a kind of a ‘Dream of the North’: it would be nice if

even this last part of the Elfstedenroute could be sailed! In the summer of

2013 this dream became a reality. Thanks to extensive work in recent years

the Northern Elfstedenroute is ready to welcome water sports enthusiasts.

This section is navigable for boats with a water draft of 1.30 meters and an

air draft of about 2.40 meters. So it is possible for these as well to reach the

finish on the Bonkefeart.

Discover the northern cities

For lovers of the frozen water the northern route will become easier as

well. They will have less “headaches” on this route

because of the new, higher bridges. In addition,

there are all kinds of new recreational facilities

along the track: Port layouts, bicycle facilities

and new routes to villages. With the Northern

Elfsteden sailing route, you can easily visit North

Frisian cities by boat. And that is certainly worth

the effort! Harlingen is a monumental port with

beautiful Wadden trips. Franeker is known for its

planetarium and deep gardens. Dokkum is an

ideal starting point to the Lauwersmeer. Capital

Leeuwarden offers a lot of history, beautiful canals

and vibrant Centre.

Enjoy nature

The Northern Elfstedenroute is more than a

connection between the North Frisian cities. From

the water you will discover a beautiful natural

spectacle: Wideness, panoramic skies and the

atmospheric light that seems to come from the

Wadden. At Wiersylster Rak and Blikfeart lie three

nature reserves. Further along, between Feinsum

and Bartlehiem, is a fourth: the Wide Mar. Along

the route you can admire the many different birds

behind bird viewing screens. Beautiful nature,

sportsmanship and pleasant villages such as Alde

Leie, Feinsum and Aldtsjerk; along the Northern

Elfstedenroute it all comes together!

Trip along the Elfstedenroute

During the watersports season, the entire

Elfstedenroute is sailable. Make a tour along the

Eleven Cities and discover the many attractions

of Friesland. If the Elfstedentocht will be skated in

winter is a question every year. But definite is that

it is sailable during the season, from start to finish.

Surfing, painting and Simmerwike

After Sloten the route continues to Stavoren, in the far southwest of

the province. This is the oldest town in Friesland and it has a very nice

downtown. From there, there are beautiful hiking and cycling tours to make.

Further north lies kite- and surf spot Hindeloopen, with good mooring

opportunities on the IJsselmeer. This city is known for its paintings and

the skating museum. A little further along the route lies Workum, with

Shipyard De Hoop and the Jopie Huisman museum. This town has beautiful

old façades and stoneware workshops. Bolsward is the next place along the

route, here the captains can sail the boat almost into the heart of the city, to

enjoy the protected townscape there. The city also offers cozy events, such

as Heamielfeest and the Simmerwike. After Bolsward still to see the port

city Harlingen and the old university city Franeker. From there on lies a very

beautiful trip ahead along the Northern Elfstedenroute. And not to forget,

the finish on the Bonkefeart!

Thanks to the work to the Northern Elfstedenroute

boaters can start in Leeuwarden and finish at the

Bonkefeart. An attractive route, filled with sights.

Discover the Frisian cities!

The Water Gate, linden trees and the Flour Mill

The tour starts in capital Leeuwarden, with

nostalgic alleys and terraces. From there you

enter the water at Sneek, which is known for its

beautiful water gate. This monument from 1613

is the symbol of the city. A visit to the Frisian

Maritime Museum is really worth your while. A

little further along the way is IJlst, with its by lin-

den tree-lined canal. A historical walking tour

leads along old buildings as ‘Brass Knocker’ and

the Town Hall. Sloten, in southern Friesland,

is the next destination. A small but varied

Brushing and waxing your boat makes it look

pretty refurbishing, at least on the eye.

However, the UV rays and weather influences focus

on the damage to paintwork to whom brushing and

waxing are no remedy. After all, water acts as

a magnifying glass for the UV rays making the

varnish faster damaged.

Pedro; specialized in spraying your boat

When your boat is well-painted it increases the trade-in or sale value. It

shows to the new owner that you have a well maintained yacht. Advantage

of applying a new paint job is that minor scratches or damages disappear

and that the yacht can be equipped with a modern colour, making it look

younger. This also brings about an appreciation.

Our advice: make sure you are in time with letting work being carried out regarding maintenance on your yacht.

Many boat owners ask for a quotation for the spraying of their pride

possession when the paint actually is already too damaged, this comes

at the expense of the value of the boat. To get a beautiful lacquer again,

now a first coat of primer has to be sprayed making the cost of the

refreshed appearance once as high against timely intervention; in

Spraying your boat at Pedro starts with

disassembly; from the Windows to the

navigation lights, with the big advantage that

no place is left untreated. Then damages will

be treated against corrosion and plastered tight

again. After sanding and degreasing the boat is

completely taped up to protect the parts which

are not to be sprayed of paint splashes. The yacht

features the new coat of paint? Then all Windows

are placed back equipped with a special sealing

tape. This ensures leak-proof sailing for years.

Obviously, the boat will be equipped with new

striping and names before it is launched again.

Employee in the spotlight by Miranda de VeenAndré van der VeldeAs a 6-year-old boy he already walked all around

on the Pedro-yard to “help” his father with

the customers. Only the building that is now

known as the main building stood there at that

time and the Pedro-port was no more than an

offshoot of the Winschoterdiep. On the large

grounds lay his rowing boat and he was working

on it for hours.

“As a child I already wanted to work on the yard.

There was nothing else, nothing else existed and I

also wanted nothing else. Everything was all about

building boats”.

While his father was at work with customers in

the workshop he chatted with the customers

who had to wait, a showroom was not there yet. “I

remember that I always thought I helped my father

very well. Looking back I think I was mainly putting

spokes in his wheel. “, he says while smiling.

From his 16th the young Van der Velde junior starts with paid summer jobs.

Cleaning boats, lawn mowing, emptying waste bins and sweeping the

workplace were especially the works where he was deployed.

Because the vocational training for building boats did not exist yet, he

started on the MTS in Stadskanaal. I started welding on my 12th, the

André van der Velde

“One of the best

moments of my career

at Pedro-Boat is the

nomination of the Liberty

for motorboat of the year.

It’s nice that your product

considered as something

special”. Photos of the test Liberty 1250

technological has always interested me. A training for example for the Sales

Department, has never drawn me. I wanted to build and create, so the MTS

was the most obvious choice”. At 21, he completed his studies to then work

full time on the yard. A houseboat was arranged for him, which got a berth

in the Pedro-port, which at that time already existed and from that point on

Pedro was his life.

On every department within the company

André has been active for a certain

period. “I started in the hull construction

Hall, at first here I was mainly engaged

in making auxiliary materials and

placing tools etcetera. In the six months

that I was working here I also got

engaged in the process of build-

ing a Casco. This began with the question of the

Casco builders: “Andre, can you just do this or that

for a moment?” and extended to the construction

of my first Casco”. Meanwhile, he worked on the

construction of 800 boats!

Also the engine department was his division for

a year long. “On this section I made assemblage

brackets in for example drinking water pumps and

heaters “. After this year followed a shorter period

of time on the repair Department. Increasingly,

his technical sense and all-round experience,

however, was required at the Office; and so he

became Assistant Manager. “I arranged the

purchase and at the same time kept me concerned

with AutoCAD; a software for concepts, modelling,

architectural drawing and technique. Together

with my father, in a team, I designed ships, was

responsible for the development of the designs

and to foster the translation of the outcomes into

practice. His passion for technology, he could

fully fulfil in making schedules for, among other

things, the pipes, the electrical system and central

heating systems. In 1998, the Manager

resigned and André took over its function. Also the

“A special moment

for me: celebrating

the construction of the

100th Pedro with the

whole staff”.

“Most enjoyable projects so far:

1. Build a 15 metre long yacht, transporting it in two parts to

Switzerland, putting it together on the spot and watching the

customer sail away with it.

2. The Bora 43’ which is now in construction, building it

myself from the start.

3. Building a kitchen and bathroom in a Donky”.

departments repair, maintenance and winter

storage fell under his control. On his business card

showed the title of Technical manager and these

he could hand out until 2012 when the choice was

made to restart the company. Now the young

boy who tinkered at his rowing boat on the yard,

co-owner of one of the largest Dutch Yachtbuilders.

On the question of whether it feels different to be

the owner he answers sober: “Now I’m on paper

and owner in mind, starting from early age it has

always already been our company in mind. That

feeling has already been there”.

A nice side-effect of the new company is

according to André the choice to split the

departments into new constructions & mainte-

nance/repair/winter storage & brokerage. “Now

I am responsible for the Department new con-

struction, however it remains a family business in

which it is happily possible to make optimal use of

everyone’s expertise. So the question: “André, do

you perhaps know...?” is still often asked “.

About the answer to the question what his future

vision is, he doesn’t have to think twice: “If I have

the say I will stay working here until my retirement.

As long as can still do it and like it, it remains my

life. Actually, it’s just like when I was 6: ‘It’s all about

building boats’!”

“With a big smile I look

back at the time I had to

explain in the Dutch tele-

vision Grote Meneer Kak-

tusshow what it is that a

boat Builder does”.

André’s philosophy

Any boat that is built here was built

to the wish of my father and me, as we

would build the boat for ourselves.

No savings on the material and,

because of the strong interest in

technique of both my father and me,

technically absolutely in perfect

shape. No boat here leaves the yard

with in my head the thought: I would

not want to have the boat like that

Occasions

More than 70 ships are lined up on our yard, ready to be viewed by you. In this selection you will find not only our Pedro’s but also yachts of other brands. Through the building numbers we can guarantee the originality of the Pedro’s and provide you a piece of history about the ship. For the other brands we will do our best to find out as much as possible history of the ship. When you purchase a ship with us it is always

subjected to a technical inspection. On delivery the ship is fitted with new oil, filters and impeller. You are assured that the ship that you purchase is delivered by us ready to sail. On a selection of our occasions trade is possible. Our sales consultants will be happy to provide you with all the information (also in German and in English) and a cup of tea or coffee is always available!Kind regards,

Roelof de Veen
