It’s easier Installing Clock Spring is simple. Each kit contains everything needed to make permanent pipeline repairs. No ma-chinery or highly skilled personnel are required. A two-man crew can be trained in just a few hours to install the Closk Spring system. It’s safer Because Clock Spring is a composite, using an extrenely durable, proprietary adhesive to bond to the pipe’s surfa-ce, no welding or hot work is required. As a result, the dangers of burn-through, metal embrittlement, and cracking in the weld zone are completely eliminated. In nearly all cases, installation can be completed while the line is in operation. Plus, since there’s no need to cut and remove pipe, there are no environmental risks or waste disposal problems.

The Clock Spring system consists of: 1. A patended, high-strength, undi-rectional composite structure. 2. A patended, fast-curing, high-performance two-part adhesive sys-tem. 3. An extremely high compressive strength, proprietary load transfer-ring component. Once installed, the three elements bond together to form an extraordinarily strong, dura-ble repair.

Stronger Than the Pipe Itself Nothing can match the proven, long-term strength of the Clock Spring system. Extensive hydrostatic and pneumat-ic burst tests by independent laboratories - and supervised by the Gas Research Institute - have demonstrated time after time that even pipe with severe defects reinforced with Clock Spring can sustain operating pressures in ex-cess of the maximum pressure rating.

Burst tests performed on large-diameter pipes con-firm Clock Spring’s ability to withstand greater-than-maximum pipeline pressures. This specimen had an 8 ¼” x 1 ½” defect over 50% through the wall. The test piece failed outside the Clock Spring sleeve at a pressure of more than two-and-a half times the MAOP.

Clock Spring is also effective in reinforcing curved pipe sections, as the results of this burst test clearly show. This test piece had a 6 ¼” x 1 ¼” defect over 50% through the wall, located on the outside curva-ture of the bend. The specimen failed outside the repair zone at more than twice the MAOP.

Proven for small-diameter pipes Tests were conducted on eight- and 10-inch diameter pipe in both straight and curved sections. Flaws were ma-chined into the pipe surface, then filled using the proprietary Clock Spring load transferring agent. Clock Spring sleeves were then applied. In all tests, the Clock Spring reinforcement allowed the damaged sections of the pipes to hold pressures subtantially greater than the maximum allowable operating pressure for the pipe. Proven for large-diameter pipes Repaired pipe sections ranging from 16 to 42 inches in diameter were subjected to hydrostatic and pneumatic tests. Each pipe had a machined flaw, corrosion, or mechanical damage. All flaws varied from 50% through-wall depth up to as much as 80% through-wall depth. The defects were filled and repaired using the Clock Spring sys-tem. The reinforced pipes were then tested and, as before, in all cases, the results proved Clock Spring’s ability to sustain above-maximum operating pressures. Effective in arresting ductile cracks Extensive testing has also demonstrated Clock Spring’s effectiveness in halting propagating ductile axial pipeline cracks. With Clock Spring sleeves installed af intervals, propagating fractures were deliberately induced in pneu-matic test pipes of varying diameters. The subsequent ruptures in the high-pressure gas lines were entirely con-tained within the reinforced areas, resulting in minimum pipe loss.

Easy Installation in Minutes

Thousands of Clock Spring sleeves have been installed on lines ranging from six to 56 inches in diameter. After a brief initial orien-tation, a two-man crew can complete an installation in less than half an hour. Time required from start of the repair until Clock Spring's load transferring filler and adhesive have fully cured is less than two hours. Clock Spring's special bonding adhesive eliminates the need for welding or cutting, and the need for expensive welding crews. Re-pairs can be completed while the pipeline is fully operational, elim-inating costly down time. In addition, Clock Spring requires only six inches of clearance under the pipe for installation. Simply ex-cavate the immediate area, prepare the pipe surface and apply the Clock Spring sleeve. Clock Spring is a much safer alternative to traditional pipe repair. No special handling, lifting or installation equipment is required. Because there's no hot work involved, any danger of burn-through is eliminated. There's no risk of inducing embrittlement or cracking in the pipe wall. CLOCK SPRING Installation Procedures

Clock Spring support services Clock Spring offers a full range of support services, including application engineering assistance, training and tech-nical consultation. Clock Spring Company is staffed by trained professionals with the technical experience and pipeline knowledge to provide the support and services required to adress the most challenging pipe repair needs.

1. Only six inches of clearance underneath or to adjacent pipelines is needed for installation. After first applyingthe load transferring filler to the damaged area, a self adhesive pad is appli-ed to the pipe surface from which to start the wrap.

2. Adhesive is applied to the pipe surface. The Clock Spring composite sleeve is fed onto the pipe, with adhesive applied to each wrap of the sleeve. Matrix memory allows the sleeve to wrap easily around the pipe.

3. Clock Spring’s matrix memory also causes the sleeve to tighten around the pipe. Installers then use a tension strap and bar to further cinch the Clock Spring securely in plane.

4. In about 25 minutes the installation is com-plete. Two hours later, the repair can be coated and backfilled.
