1. The world in gloom and splendour passés by, And
thou in the midst of it with brows that gleam,
(i) Who is in the midst of gloom and splendor?
The millionaire is in the midst of gloom and splendor.
(ii) Who does the word ‘thou’ refer to?
The !ord "tho# refers to the millionaire.
(iii) What is the contrast you find in the first line?
The !orld mo$es in sadness and splendor. It is the %ontrast.

And pressing the small, poised feet of a mother who smiles as she sings
