“Portraits and places” è una raccolta e selezione di foto

scattate personalmente negli utlimi quattro anni in vari luoghi

del mondo, con una costante presente in tutti gli scatti: i visi

delle persone che hanno accompagnato i viaggi.

Il progetto investiga la intima connessione esistente tra viag-

gio e viaggiatori, tra luogo e spazio dell’intimo, tra ambiente

fisico e intorno sociale. Ogni viaggio porta con sé il ricordo

di visi e persone: compagni di percorso, breve o lungo che

sia, che definiscono in maniera unica e insostituibile la forma

del ricordo di un luogo.

Capita a volte di tornare in una città visitata molti anni prima

e di esperirla in modo completamente diverso da come la

ricordavamo. L’atmosfera si spezza e riformula in nome di

nuove sensazioni dettate, primi fra tutti, dai visi delle per-

sone che ci accompagnano o che, anche per pochi attimi,

incontriamo.

“Portaits and places” suggerisce la natura intimamente so-

ciale del nostro vivere e quindi anche del nostro viaggiare.

La formula dell’ “hic et nunc”, non si esaurisce nelle assi car-

tesiane dello spazio fisico e temporale, ma necessita di una

terza dimensione rapprasentata dallo spazio sociale.

Come a dire: la profondità e il volume della memoria é defini-

ta dalle persone che ci accompagnano...

“Portraits and places” is a collection of selected photos that I

personally took during the last four years in various places of

the world, with the same constant in each of them: the faces

of people who were with me in every travel.

The project investigates the intimate connection that exists

between travel and travelers, place and intimate space and

between physical environment and social surrounding.

Every travel hides under memories of faces and people: fellow

travellers, no matter the lenght of the way, define the shape

of our memory of a place in unique and irreplaceable ways.

It happens sometimes to visit again a place that we had al-

ready visited long time before in the past and to experience

it in a completely different way. The atmosphere breaks and

reformulate into new sensations, primarily because of the

people coming with us or who we simply meet for a few

moments.

“Portaits and places” suggests the intimately social nature

of our living and, therefore, of our travelling. The formula of

“hic et nunc” does not simply result from the intersection of

physical space and time, but need a third axis represented by

the social space: in other words, the depth and volume of or

memories are determined by the people we encounter...
