DescriptionXscend™, the new shelf based power system from Power-One is designed to meet a broad range of customer applicationsthrough flexibility, simplicity and scalability.

FlexibleThe Xscend power system offers solutions that meet today's demands by addressing tomorrow's problems, including: powerdensity, reliability, accessibility, upgrades, and space requirements. Utilizing state-of-the art rectifier technology, an integratedmicroprocessor controller platform and interchangeable distribution modules, the Xscend power system provides a diversefront-access power solution in only a 3 rack unit (5.25in.) vertical and a 300mm (12in.) deep cabinet area. Xscend rectifiersoperate using a phase shifted transitional resonant zero-voltage switching technology that offers increased system life andreliability by reducing component stresses. The same engineering strategy gives Xscend the ability to generate up to 1350Win just 3.5-inch (2RU) of vertical space, resulting in a power density of over 9 W/in

3. In addition, Xscend’s forward thinking

horizontal cooling design allows shelves to be placed directly above or below customer equipment, safely increasing theamount of space that can be used for revenue generating equipment and negating the need for airflow clearance above orbelow the unit.

SimpleThe Xscend power system is designed for ease of use through itsinnovative control and monitoring system. To accomplish this theXscend is supervised by a single rack unit microprocessorcontroller (XCS) that offers user-friendly menus and commandsthat allow an operator to monitor system conditions, capacity, battery parameters and circuit breaker status.

System control can also be accomplished by using an RS232digital communication bus that allows for remote operation througha Modem, Ethernet (SNMP capable), or standard form C contacts. The XCS controller also works hand-in-hand with the easy to usePower-One POWCOM software package that allows for totalsystem assessment and password controlled parameteradjustments.

ScalableIn keeping with today's unpredictable market requirements, Power-One's Xscend design targets a mechanical package approach thatpermits the power system to expand with ease.

Each 23 inch shelf can be fitted with up to five rectifier unitsdelivering up to 125A of system power, while each 19 inch rack canbe fitted with up to four rectifiers providing 100A. Additionalshelves, distributions and rectifiers can be added to a systemoffering a high system level density as well as system levelmodularity providing low start up costs and an easy growth path.

Xscend Rectifier ModulePower-One has addressed the critical issue of power density bydesigning the Xscend rectifier module to be more compact, sothat the maximum amount of power can be generated in theleast amount of space. The module incorporates the latest inpower monitoring solutions through an internal microprocessor, giving up to the second updates on system performance. The rectifier is cooled by a high-speed temperature controlledfan that allows operation at 1200W at temperatures up to 65°C(reduced capacity to 75°C). These features allow the Xscendrectifier to operate in many different environments andconfigurations.

Xscend Distribution ModuleA common problem in today's power systems is cablecongestion. The Xscend system alleviates this problem throughan innovative module design that incorporates a standard cablemanagement area into the system. The result is a front access3-rack unit power system that allows for efficient and easyinstallation. This hot-add distribution modules have the option of beinginstalled into the two rightmost positions in the subrack, therebyallowing shelves and systems to be easily and quicklyconfigured as desired. This design allows each module todistribute and protect loads up to a total of 100A. Offered as anoption, the low voltage disconnect (LVD) function may beinstalled in each module to ensure system batteries areprotected against an irrecoverable discharge.

DescriptionThe Power-One Xscend™ Controller System (XCS) provides comprehensive monitoringand control for Power-One’s Xscend DC power systems. This digital controller monitorstotal system conditions including DC voltage, rectifier current, rectifier temperature, system capacity, battery parameters and circuit breaker status.

The XCS enables data storage of system configuration information such as battery type, installation date and system commission date. Visual notification of alarm and warningconditions are indicated by front panel LEDs, while descriptions of the alarms are providedthrough an LCD, or as an option, may be accessed remotely through a modem or aNetwork Interface (PNI) module.

To meet individual site requirements, the XCS contains a logic operator that can beprogrammed to monitor and control specified requirements. This allows actions to be set, alarms to be triggered, and outputs to be activated based on internal and external signalmonitoring, comparing and processing.

FeaturesUser controls and interfaces:

• Simple menu-guided operation using front panel mounted pushbuttons and an LCD

• User-selectable alarm parameters

• 40 event data logging

• Password controlled environment

• Multiple language options

• RS232 Interface and Form “C” dry alarm contacts

PCSController

DescriptionThe Power-One Power Controller System (PCS) provides comprehensive monitoring and control fora broad range of Power-One’s DC power systems. This digital controller monitors total systemconditions including DC voltage, rectifier current, rectifier temperature, system capacity, batteryparameters and circuit breaker status.

The PCS enables data storage of system configuration information such as battery type, installationdate and system commission date. In addition, the PCS is capable of monitoring up to 128 rectifiersand 128 sub-controllers within a power system. Visual notification of alarm and warning conditionsare indicated by front panel LEDs, while descriptions of the alarms are provided through an LCD oras an option may be accessed remotely through a modem or a Network Interface (PNI) module.

To meet individual site requirements, the PCS contains a logic operator that can be programmed tomonitor and control specified requirements. This allows actions to be set, alarms to be triggered, andoutputs to be activated based on internal and external signal monitoring, comparing and processing.

Intelligent battery management:

• Temperature compensation with programmable compensation factor

• Automatic and manual load testing

• Battery voltage and symmetry monitoring

• Capacity testing

• Low voltage disconnect

• Monthly data logging
