Page 3: Pre-Orientation Guide

Dear Members of the Class of 2018:Welcome to Fayetteville State University! We are honored by your decision to join our FSU community and thrilled about your enthusiasm and your motivation to attend FSU. I am confident that you will find an environment that will allow you to define your personal uniqueness as you realize your goals and anticipated aspirations for the future. As one of the oldest universities in North Carolina, you are joining an academic community that is steeped in tradition and pays a particular homage to our past, but also prepares you for success. You have a wonderful opportunity for developing new relationships when you become a member of the Bronco Family and I encourage you to actively participate in your community. Among the first people to greet you at FSU will be your Resident Assistant (RA) and your Orientation Leader (OL). These students are great resources for navigating the campus and for answering any questions or concerns.

Our theme this year is BRONCOFIT: Fit to Achieve. Fit to Lead. Fit for Life. and it is all about being purposeful in preparing yourself academically, mentally, and physically to achieve your goals. Being BRONCOFIT is about being engaged in the classroom, being a leader on campus, and being responsible for your overall health and well-being. Upon arrival, you will be introduced to the University’s expectations and to your responsibilities as new members of our continued legacy of excellence here at FSU. It is our anticipation that you, as a selected group of students, will demonstrate high achieving behaviors and become future leaders of the world. Being BRONCOFIT will prepare you to become that leader, as long as you take ownership of your role in becoming fit to achieve, fit to lead, and fit for life.

The Division of Student Affairs offers a supportive and stimulating environment. Class of 2018, you will receive a great deal of freedom and you are expected to respond respectfully and maturely to the FSU responsibilities and adhere to the FSU Student Handbook. We look forward to greeting you at our New Student Orientation on August 16, 2014. The information provided will introduce you to the FSU community and provide a tentative schedule of events planned for Freshman Orientation. Be sure to read the enclosed materials and make note that locations are subject to change. A final schedule of events will be provided upon check-in with additional tools to help you maneuver the campus.

We expect great things from you at FSU and we hope you remain focused. Remember that being BRONCOFIT and graduation are your ultimate goals.

Greetings Class of 2018:Congratulations, you are now officially a Bronco! On behalf of the Student Government Association and the student body, I would like to welcome you to Fayetteville State University, your next step to success. As your Student Body President, I am truly honored to be that voice of communication between you and the Administration. It is my responsibility to make sure that your voice is heard, but in order to do my job effectively, you must vocalize your issues and concerns, for your engagement is instrumental to our joint success.

Throughout your matriculation, I encourage you to take advantage of the various opportunities that our University has to offer. Take time to discover yourself, network, develop friendships, and create memories that will last a lifetime. It is imperative that you fully immerse yourself in the college experience, but remember: You are enrolled in college to master a body of knowledge.

Our focus this year is on Campus Security, Community Partnerships, and Igniting Bronco Pride in order to develop an environment for success. Focusing on academics and safety will contribute to the academic progression and quality of life experienced here on campus. Through the development of community partnerships, Cumberland County will increase support given to the University and

will display a pride for the institution we call home. Additionally, these partnerships we will encourage businesses to open their doors to students for shadow days, internships, and job opportunities. Finally, through the Igniting Bronco Pride initiative, the Student Government Association will host more events that will attract more of the campus population and highlight the talents of our students.

Throughout your college experience, keep in mind our University motto: Res Non Verba “Deeds Not Words,” and in all things exemplify leadership.

With Much Bronco Pride!

Jared J. JamesStudent Body President2014-2015 Greetings to the Class of 2018:The moment has finally arrived! You are now an official Fayetteville State University Bronco and as your Miss Fayetteville State University 2014-2015, I would like to welcome you to the Bronco Family! It is a great privilege to be given the opportunity to seek a higher education; it is an even greater privilege to be called an FSU Bronco. You have been allotted the chance to join the many great and esteemed Broncos that have walked through the very halls you will walk, and have learned in the very classrooms where you will sit. As you arrive, take a moment to recognize the rich history of FSU and to understand how that history serves as a foundation for you to build upon your success.

Bronco family: the future is yours and I proclaim that you will have a successful one, starting from this very moment! Embrace every single opportunity given to you, understanding that many aren’t given the same opportunities. Also, be sure to make wise decisions, weighing the consequences of each action before moving forward. Most importantly, learn to give back to your community and to others your time and service, because as our school motto notes, life is about deeds, not words (Res Non Verba).

I hope to see each and every one of you engaged and enthused about FSU throughout the year. Never let that blue flame in your heart die! Always be proud to be a Bronco!

Once again, I welcome you to the land of lily white and royal blue, the one and only, Bronco Nation! With Bronco Pride!

WELCOME To the Class of 2018:

I welcome you to your new home we call “Bronco Nation”. There is no room for failure so now is the time to make that grand decision of whether you will become a leader or a legend. Leaders do lead and make wise decisions; however, legends create their own legacy and a blueprint to guide those who choose to travel down the path of success!

I say this to inspire each and every one of you to not just become great leaders, but great legends while leading your own path to success. Your name is the only thing you have to stand on and it is imperative that anytime your name is spoken, only greatness can be associated with it.

Class of 2018, you have already taken the first step by enrolling into the finer institution that is Fayetteville State University. I challenge you to excel in not only your academics, but also to go above and beyond by giving back to YOUR University that will give so much to you!

Once again, I welcome you to Fayetteville State University and I look forward to seeing the legends you will become!

With Courage, Might, and Majesty,

Ronald R. Blanks, Jr.Mr. Fayetteville State University2013-2014

Dear Class of 2018:Welcome to Fayetteville State University, home of the mighty Broncos! WELCOME Welcome Class of 2018:

You are now an official Fayetteville State University Bronco and I am delighted to serve you as the Program Director of the Student Activities Council (SAC) during the 2014-2015 academic year. The FSU Student Activities Council plans, implements, and executes activities and events that will provide you with everlasting memories and an enjoyable experience during your time here at our beloved University.

Founded in 1994, The Student Activities Council gives students opportunities to create events for our fellow Broncos. Throughout the year, SAC hosts many activities such as: bowling nights, campus dances, and tailgate parties. We implement major weeks such as: Welcome Week, Homecoming, and Rodeo Week. Also, the freshman class elects two of their very own to contribute to student leadership as members of the Student Activities Council, so be sure to apply when the time comes.

As you embark on this new journey of your life, try to make this experience as memorable as possible. Again, Welcome to the Bronco Family! “Attitude Check! Bronco Pride!”

Sincerely,

Xavier Adams, Student Activities Council Program Director2014-2015

Greetings Class of 2018:It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the illustrious Fayetteville State University. I am honored to have the opportunity to serve you as the President of A.U.T.O.S. (Achieving Understanding Towards Off-Campus Students) and as a fellow Bronco. Your collegiate journey has finally begun. Hard work, consistency, friendship, and new opportunities are awaiting you, so hang tight and dive into the college experience.

Your college career will be what you make it. I stayed on campus my freshman year, which taught me a little of what it’s like to experience campus life and to be independent. Now as a commuting student, I encourage every Bronco living off campus to get involved with some type of club or organization. If there isn’t a club/organization that interests you, find the necessary steps to create one. Choose not to be the student who just goes to class and then directly home. Try venturing around the campus to learn the history. Network with other Broncos and make every moment count.

I encourage you to join A.U.T.O.S Commuter Student Association and use the organization as a stepping stone to greater opportunities at Fayetteville State University and in the Fayetteville community. In turn, I will dedicate my time to improving your experience here at FSU.

Welcome to Bronco Land!Res Non Verba,

Andrewnikkia Alvarado President, AUTOS Commuter Student Association
