2 Description2.1 Use of the product as directedThe appliance is designed to charge Hilti batteries ofthe types PSA 80, PRA 82 and PRA 801 indoors, in dryconditions.The appliance is designed for use with the batteriesspecified in these operating instructions. Use of thisappliance to charge batteries of other types is thus notpermissible.Do not use the appliance where there is a risk of fire orexplosion.Observe the information printed in the operating instruc-tions concerning operation, care and maintenance.

The appliance is designed for professional use and maybe operated, serviced and maintained only by trained,authorized personnel. This personnel must be informedof any special hazards that may be encountered. The ap-pliance and its ancillary equipment may present hazardswhen used incorrectly by untrained personnel or whenused not as directed.Tampering with or modification of the appliance isnot permissible.

4 Safety instructionsIn addition to the information relevant to safety givenin each of the sections of these operating instructions,the following points must be strictly observed at alltimes.

4.1 General safety instructions

a) Do not render safety devices ineffective and donot remove information and warning notices.

b) Use of the appliance is not permissible if the plugpins are bent or damaged (do not use force whenplugging in).

c) Take the influences of the surrounding area intoaccount. Do not expose the appliance to rain orsnow and do not use it in damp or wet conditions.Do not use the appliance where there is a risk offire or explosion.

d) Use the supply cord only for connecting to themains supply.

e) Store appliances, when not in use, in a secure place.When not in use, appliances must be stored in a dry,high place or locked away out of reach of children.

f) Use the right appliance for the job. Do not use theappliance for purposes for which it was not inten-ded. Use it only as directed and when in faultlesscondition.

g) When not in use, keep the battery and the chargeraway from paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screwsor other small metal objects that could cause ashort circuit at the battery terminals or the char-ging contacts. A short circuit at the battery terminalsor charging contacts could result in personal injury(burns) or fire.

h) This appliance is not intended for use by per-sons (including children) with reduced physical,sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experi-ence and knowledge, unless they have been givensupervision or instruction concerning use of theappliance by a person responsible for their safety.

i) Children must be instructed not to play with theappliance.

j) Take care to ensure that the batteries suffer nomechanical damage.

k) Do not charge or continue to use damaged bat-teries (e.g. batteries with cracks, broken parts,bent or pushed-in and/or pulled-out contacts).

4.2 Proper organization of the work areaa) Ensure that the workplace is well lit.

b) Keep work area clean andwell lit. Cluttered or darkareas invite accidents.

c) Check to ensure that the appliance and supplycord do not present an obstacle that could leadto a risk of tripping and personal injury.

d) Put the appliance in a secure place before begin-ning charging.

4.3 Electrical

a) Avoid body contact with earthed or groundedsurfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges andrefrigerators. There is an increased risk of electricshock if your body is earthed or grounded.

b) Check the appliance’s supply cord at regular in-tervals and have it replaced by a qualified special-ist if found to be damaged. Check extension cordsat regular intervals and replace them if damage isfound. Do not touch the supply cord or extensioncord if they are damaged while working. Discon-nect the supply cord plug from the power outlet.Damaged supply cords present a risk of electricshock.

c) Check to ensure that the appliance and all cordsare in good condition. Do not operate the appli-ance or its accessories if damage is found, if theappliance is incomplete or if its controls cannotbe operated faultlessly.

d) Have the appliance repaired only at a Hilti servicecenter.

e) Do not use the supply cord for purposes for whichit is not intended. Never carry the appliance by thesupply cord. Never pull the plug out of the poweroutlet by pulling the supply cord.

f) Do not expose the supply cord to heat, oil or sharpedges.

g) Never operate the appliancewhen it is dirty orwet.Under unfavorable conditions, dampness or dustadhering to the surface of the appliance, especiallydust from conductive materials, may present a riskof electric shock. Dirty or dusty appliances shouldthus be checked at a Hilti service center at regularintervals, especially if used frequently for working onconductive materials.

h) Avoid short circuiting the battery terminals. Ashort circuit may present a fire hazard.

i) Avoid touching the contacts.j) Do not use batteries other than those approved for

use with the applicable tool or appliance. Use of other

batteries or use of the battery for purposes for whichit is not intended presents a risk of fire and explosion.

k) Batteries that have reached the end of their lifemust be disposed of safely and correctly to avoidenvironmental pollution.

4.4 Electromagnetic compatibilityAlthough the appliance complies with the strict require-ments of the applicable directives, Hilti cannot entirelyrule out the possibility of interference to the appliancecaused by powerful electromagnetic radiation, leading toincorrect operation. Check the accuracy of the appliance

by taking measurements by other means when workingunder such conditions or if you are unsure. Likewise, Hilticannot rule out the possibility of interference with otherdevices (e.g. aircraft navigation equipment).

4.5 LiquidsUnder abusive conditions, liquid may leak from the bat-tery. Avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs,flush with water. In the event of the liquid coming intocontact with the eyes, rinse the eyes with plenty ofwater and consult a doctor. Liquid ejected from thebattery may cause irritation or burns.

5 Before use

5.1 Connecting 1

1. Connect the supply cord to the appliance.

2. Plug the supply cord into the power outlet.3. Connect the charging cable to the PSA 80, PRA 82

or PRA 801 battery.

6 Operation

CAUTIONThe appliance becomes warm while charging the battery. The appliance must therefore not be built-in, coveredover or used in a location where the air cannot circulate freely. Do not operate the charger inside a closedcontainer.

CAUTIONNever store or charge the battery in direct sunlight, on a radiator at a window or behind a pane of glass. Thebattery will suffer damage at high temperatures.

6.1 LED indicators 1

NOTE- Charge the battery only within the temperature range 0 to 40°C (+32°F to +104°F).- Maximum charging efficiency is achieved at an ambient temperature of 0 to 30°C (+32°F to +86°F).

LED indicators Green LED lights constantly The appliance is connected to the elec-tric supply and is in operation.

Green LED blinks The battery cannot be charged. Thebattery is either faulty or its temperat-ure is outside the limits for successfulcharging. Disconnect the battery fromthe charger and allow it to cool downor warm up accordingly. Subsequentlyreconnect the battery to the charger. Ifthe green LED continues to blink, thebattery is faulty. Contact Hilti.

7 Care and maintenanceCAUTIONDisconnect the supply cord plug from the power out-let.

7.1 Care of the applianceThe outer casing of the appliance is made from impact-resistant plastic.Clean the exterior of the appliance at regular intervals witha slightly damp cloth or a dry brush. Do not use a spray,steam pressure cleaning equipment or running water forcleaning. This may negatively affect the electrical safetyof the appliance. Always keep the appliance free from oiland grease. Do not use cleaning agents which containsilicone.

7.2 MaintenanceWARNINGRepairs to electrical parts and replacement of thesupply cord may be carried out only by trained elec-trical specialists.

Check all external parts of the appliance for damageat regular intervals and check that all controls operatefaultlessly. Do not operate the appliance when parts aredamaged or when the controls do not function correctly.If necessary, the appliance should be repaired by HiltiService.

7.3 Care of the batteryKeep the electrical contacts free from dust, oil andgrease.If necessary, use a clean cloth to clean the contactsurfaces.If battery capacity drops below an acceptable level aftermany periods of use and recharging, we recommendhaving it checked by Hilti.

8 DisposalDANGERImproper disposal of the equipment may have serious consequences:The burning of plastic components generates toxic fumes which may present a health hazard.Batteries may explode if damaged or exposed to very high temperatures, causing poisoning, burns, acid burns orenvironmental pollution.Careless disposal may permit unauthorized and improper use of the equipment. This may result in serious personalinjury, injury to third parties and pollution of the environment.

Most of the materials from which Hilti tools or appliances are manufactured can be recycled. The materials mustbe correctly separated before they can be recycled. In many countries, Hilti has already made arrangements fortaking back old tools and appliances for recycling. Ask Hilti customer service or your Hilti representative for furtherinformation.

For EC countries onlyDisposal of electric appliances together with household waste is not permissible.In observance of European Directive 2002/96/EC on waste electrical and electronic equipment and itsimplementation in accordance with national law, electric appliances that have reached the end of theirlife must be collected separately and returned to an environmentally compatible recycling facility.

Dispose of the batteries in accordance with national regulations.

9 Manufacturer’s warranty - toolsHilti warrants that the tool supplied is free of defects inmaterial and workmanship. This warranty is valid so longas the tool is operated and handled correctly, cleanedand serviced properly and in accordance with the HiltiOperating Instructions, and the technical system is main-tained. This means that only original Hilti consumables,components and spare parts may be used in the tool.

This warranty provides the free-of-charge repair or re-placement of defective parts only over the entire lifespanof the tool. Parts requiring repair or replacement as aresult of normal wear and tear are not covered by thiswarranty.

Additional claims are excluded, unless mandatory na-tional regulations prohibit such exclusion. In particu-lar, Hilti is not obligated for direct, indirect, incidentalor consequential damages, losses or expenses inconnection with, or by reason of, the use of, or inabil-ity to use the tool for any purpose. Implied warrantiesof merchantability or fitness for a particular purposeare specifically excluded.

For repair or replacement, send the tool or related partsimmediately upon discovery of the defect to the addressof the local Hilti marketing organization provided.

This constitutes Hilti’s entire obligation with regard towarranty and supersedes all prior or contemporaneouscomments and oral or written agreements concerningwarranties.
