The Super Ambassadors is an exciting scheme from the Children’s Commissioner for Wales that promotes children’s

rights in primary schools.

Schools elect two pupils as Super Ambassadors at the beginning of every year. They have three jobs to do:

• Tell other pupils in their school about the Children’s Commissioner

• Make sure other pupils know about children’s rights

• Do special missions for the Commissioner

If you think this is something that your school could do, ask your head teacher to look at this website.

We are ‘Super Ambassadors’ at Ysgol Pen Barras, and as in October as part of our work for the Children’s Commissioner for Wales we started a competition called ‘Bullying Sam’.

We gave two weeks to the children that wanted to enter to create a story or cartoon about Sam being bullied. The purpose of this was to show children that we have to put a STOP to bullying.

After two weeks we collected the cartoons and stories. We were very pleased with 40 stories and 2 cartoons.

We awarded prizes to 9 children that competed! We hope that we have inspired other children for the future of the Ambassadors.

In the summer term we are hoping to hold more activities for the well-being of the children.

This term we have decided to improve areas that pupils think are 'unsafe zones’. We have given out maps of the school to all pupils and asked them to shade areas of the school in different colours.

Green = safe.

Orange = OK.

Red = unsafe.

We then met to look at the information and see which areas most pupils feel 'unsafe' in whilst in school. At our next meeting we will evaluate this information and come up with an action plan on how we can make these areas better.

The year 5 pupils of Ysgol Caer Drewyn were allowed to invite an adult guest to lunch at school. The pupils were joined by a mixture of parents and grandparents who were able to sit with us and enjoy their lunch. Our local councillor and school governor, Huw Jones, also came to dine with us.

Everyone enjoyed a healthy meal of lasagne with a choice of salad. This was followed by a dessert of a tasty fruit salad. Everyone had a good time and valued the time together.

Bridget Griffiths, a grandparent, said, “It was great to spend some valuable time with my granddaughter and enjoy a lovely meal. I hope they do it again.”

We would like to thank everyone who came and especially Auntie Clarissa for cooking the meal.

The Eco Club have been very busy making goods out of materials that can be recycled – hearts from old jigsaws, snowmen from bottle tops, and boxes

from toilet roll centres.

We sold them at the Christmas Fair and we made a profit of £19, which will be

spent by our Eco Council this term.

The foundation phase and key stage pupils at Ysgol Pen Barras had assemblies from the

NSPCC.

They gave us really important information about our rights and what to do if we are being

mis-treated. We all really enjoyed the show. Your head teacher can check when your

school is having a show by emailing [email protected]

DDDDaily Mile aily Mile aily Mile aily Mile ---- Get Involved!Get Involved!Get Involved!Get Involved!

This is a new project where everyone in school can run ‘one mile’ every day to help them to be healthy and fit.

• It takes place over just 15 minutes.

• Children run outside in the fresh air every day.

• Children run in their uniforms so no kit or changing time is needed.

• It’s social, non-competitive and fun.

For more information about how to set this up in your school, ask your head teacher to look at: www.thedailymile.cymru/

All schools are entered into daily prize draws for prizes including bike and scooter stunt shows, equipment and storage if over 15% of your school cycle or scoot on each day of the challenge. Prize details will be announced on The Big Pedal website.

Ysgol Caer Drewyn Bronze Ambassadors

At Ysgol Caer Drewyn we have a ‘Young Bronze Ambassadors’ system. It is all about sports and getting more fit and healthy. In our school we have a lot of sport themed days arranged by the Young Bronze Ambassadors. Their names are Cerys, Ffion and Lucy. We all like sports. We all enjoy entering and competing in sports and love doing it.

As a team all three of us present PowerPoints and questionnaires to all pupils in Ysgol Caer Drewyn all about healthy lifestyles and sport. We also have our own notice board all about new events that are coming up and posters that we have made. We all try to present our school with lots of events, competitions, themed days and FUN days, so that we are all fit and healthy!

Lots of Denbighshire primary schools have selected some pupils to be their ‘Young Bronze Ambassadors’. They have an important job to promote sport in their

school.

• Be the voice for PE and School Sport in their school

• Promote the value of sport

• Be a role model and champion for PE and school sport

• Get more pupils involved in sports and healthy lifestyles to help get every child hooked on sport.

Poem from Ysgol Carrog Poem from Ysgol Carrog Poem from Ysgol Carrog Poem from Ysgol Carrog

Some pupils from Ysgol Carrog wanted to share their poem about being vegetarian.

Very healthy options. Enough vegetables for us to eat, we do not need meat. Get out the carrots to feed the rabbit. Not so we can eat it, just to treat it. Every animal is valued. The animals are very nice creatures, we do not eat them. Animals are precious to the world. Ready to treat them, not to eat them. It is awesome being a vegetarian. Animals are good to be near…but not to be near them when they are on the table. No animals are eaten by us; not even fish.
