From the Pastors Desk

Dear Friends in Christ,

First, let me thank you for all the acts of kindness and welcome directed toward my family and me. We are grateful to be part of the Peace with Christ family.

My daily devotions have focused my attention on St. Pauls first letter to the church at Corinth. It is a letter filled with words of admonition and encouragement. The Corinthian Christians had a church filled with blessings and challenges of all sorts. Just like us! Paul reminds them, and us in our reading of the book, that Christ remains the merciful and long-suffering head of the body, which is His church. I pray that we learn together the depth of these words: But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them as He chose. If all were a single member, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, yet one body (1 Corinthians 12:18-20). Working together as one body is the way of Jesus and the way of the Church. Working together as one body is our calling as baptized believers of the Triune God. Working together as one body is how we will bring peace with Christ into the lives of those we know and love.

Im looking forward to growing together with you as one body with many parts - in the great mercy of God in Christ Jesus our Lord!

Your servant for Jesus sake,

Pastor David Magruder

Marilyns Memo

Dear PWC Family,

Summer is officially over, school has been in session for a couple of weeks and we will be beginning our fall classes and activities here at church. I would like to follow up with the congregation about two important Youth trips this summer. Catechism Retreat at LVR and Higher Things! Both trips were wonderful experiences for the youth and adults who attended. I want to thank the congregation for helping provide this opportunity to our youth members they grow in faith, knowledge and friendships at these events. Below you will be able to read about their experiences and their thanks! I asked them to share something they learned and something fun they did.

Have a blessed month!

Marilyn

LVR and Higher Things:

2016 has been a busy year for everyone; especially for the youth at Peace with Christ Church. This year the youth once again traveled down to Colorado Springs to attend Luthers Valley Retreat (LVR) in Woodland Park. This was my second year attending LVR and as always the camp was a lot of fun. The pastors did a great job helping us grow in the faith by teaching us about the six chief parts and answering any of our questions that we had. My favorite activity that we did was a hike up to a place called Inspiration. It was truly breathtaking and it was a lot of fun to just hang out with friends while we enjoyed the view around us.

This year the youth also traveled the great distance to CSU for a Higher Things conference. This was my first time at Higher Things and I was amazed by how organized everything was and how many people were attending. There were over 1,000 people

and around 100 pastors present at Higher Things which was incredible. It was busy to say the least, but was overall very enlightening and extremely fun. During Higher Things everyone attending breakout sessions. My favorite breakout session that I attended was called a Roadmap to your Conscience by Pastor Wolfmueller. He taught us about how our minds can become callused as we go through life.

Overall, these trips are amazing opportunities to learn about the faith and develop lasting friendships with those around us, but these trips wouldn't be available to us without the help of the congregation. Therefore, I would like to thank everyone in the congregation for providing the youth with these opportunities year after year, so that we may continue to grow our knowledge in the faith and learn what it means to be a Lutheran.

-Sandra Vanatta

The 2016 trip to Luthers valley retreat (LVR), was lots of fun. I had a great first year there with my time filled with hiking the mountains, riding horses, doing archery, and playing the all camp game. My favorite activity while at LVR was the one of a kind catechism commando. During my time at LVR I learned about the 6 chief parts, I also learned more in depth on the confession and absolution. I had a great time at LVR and Id like to thank the congregation for funding the trip because I had an amazing time there.

-Matthew Vanatta

I learned that out of abusive relationships for girls 16-24 years old, 30% are killed by their boyfriends or husband. What was fun was the bungee jumping, socializing and the dance party. Thank you for the opportunity to go to Higher Things it was awesome.

Higher Things was a nice experience and I learned a lot. I learned many things about faith, the conscience and even a couple ideas about God. Thanks for helping me get there! And playing ultimate Frisbee was fun.

-David Ivers

Thank you so much for making it possible for me to go to LVR and Higher Things. I learned a lot, one of my favorite topics was learning about the conscience and how it works and ties into Jesus. I have had so much fun and will remember these times for years to come.

Sincerely,

Alyssa Fraser

Thank you so much for teaching and educating us at my first Higher Things Conference, right in my home own. I have strengthened my faith in different ways, and I loved how different lessons were taught in different and various ways as well. I hope I can participate in Higher Things again, and I thank you for helping me be able to do these things, I couldnt do it without you.

Sincerely,

Toku Cerman

A Letter From Preschool

Dear PWC friends,

Calling all Heroes and Heroines:

Seek justice, love, and mercy. Walk humbly with our God. Micah 6:8

Getting ready for a new school year requires a lot of time, energy and communication. New requirements for State licensing and regulations were changed and in effect August 1. This meant that several areas of the Preschool needed updating with safety being the #1 priority. With that said. I want to SHOUT OUT a BIG THANK YOU to...... the trustees (thanks Drew and Stoney) Ken K., Larry and Linda S., Marilyn and Tom L., Preschool Board members and my family. Without your help, I could not have
