Opravdanje umjetnosti je unutarnje sagorijevanje koje pali
u srcu čovjeka, a ne njegova vanjština, otkriveni, javni nas-
tup. Svrha umjetnosti nije oslobađanje trenutne provale
adrenalina nego, prije, postupna, doživotna izgradnja stanja
propitivanja i pomirenja. Glenn Gould, pijanist
Poštovani!
Naš i Vaš festival održavamo već sedamnaest godina, i
najveće priznanje ostvarujemo upravo s ovim ljetom i
pozivom u Novalju i Kolan. PagArtFestival se širi i donosi ra-
dost i ispunjenje sve većem broju ljudi koji nalaze opravda-
nje umjetnosti i spremni su posvetiti večer slušanju klasične,
ozbiljne glazbe, u pregrijanoj crkvi s neudobnim klupama,
bez razglasa, raznobojne rasvjete, dekoracija, i pokušati
The justifi cation of art is the internal combustion ignited in
the hearts of men and not its shallow, externalized, public
manifestation. The purpose of art is not the release of a mo-
mentary ejection of adrenaline but is, rather, the gradual,
lifelong construction of a state of wonder and serenity.
Glenn Gould, pianist
Esteemed!
We have held our and your festival for seventeen years
already and we obtain the greatest recognition exactly
with this summer and the invitation to Novalja and Kolan.
PagArtFestival is expanding and brings joy and fulfi lment
to ever increasing number of people that fi nd the justifi ca-
tion of art and are willing to spend an evening by listen-
ing to classical, serious music, in an overheated church with
uncomfortable benches, without a sound system, colourful
lighting and decorations, and try to experience something
new from the photos of island stone details.
On our part, there is a lot of questioning and a lot of rec-
onciliation, but we question neither the meaning nor the
justifi cation of art because it means life to us.

Josip Portada: Ogovaranje
tramo naizgled obične stvari, svijet oko sebe. Fotograf Josip
Portada tražio je i nalazio zaobljene kamene oblike-oblutke,
a posebno je rado selektirao one s okruglim perforacijama. S
ravnodušno gledati bez svojevrsne empatije, Josip Portada
daje i oniričku dimenziju. Naime, učestalo ih stavlja u nove
međusobne odnose, multiplicira ih, zrakasto organizira, zrcal-
no ih projicira ili člankovito niže, postižući dojam strukturalne
povezanosti elemenata. Već i inače ekspresivan (katkad vrlo
privlačan, a katkad gotovo odbojan) objekt umnažanjem i
dekontekstualiziranjem postaje izvor novih sanjarija. Igra sv-
stranim protegama. Izdvojeni predmeti u beskraju tamne
pozadine emaniraju gotovo magične učinke talismana,
amajlije, a “grupne kompozicije“ istovrsnih - ali proporcio-
nalno ulančanih kamenih oblutaka uvlače nas u kadar svojim
novim ritmovima.
At the fi rst glance it seems that we have let the objects speak
to us, that we have given the found pebbles the opportunity
to visually speak. Indeed, poetics of l’object trouvée (found
object), which was patented by visual art avant-gardists,
enabled us to watch seemingly ordinary things, the world
around us, with amazement (and “estrangement“). Photog-
rapher Josip Portada sought and found the round stone
shapes - pebbles, and was particularly happy to select the
ones with round perforations. Since the spherical or, in any
case, round formation of assembled stone particles looks like
bony skulls, holes and bores in their tissues seem like mouth
orifi ces or, even better, as eye sockets. We also experience in-
version like this: it seems that the pebbles are watching, that
we ourselves are also watched through the eyes of stone.
After selecting characteristic examples of small stones pro-
cessed by the sea waves, and knowing that we cannot watch
them indiff erently without peculiar empathy, Josip Portada
chooses interventions in which he gives oneiric dimension to
the world in question. Namely, he frequently places them in
new mutual relationships, multiplies them, radially organizes
them, projects them in the mirror or arranges them like seg-
ments, achieving the impression of structural connection of
elements. By multiplication and decontextualization, an al-
ready expressive (sometimes very attractive and sometimes
almost repellent) item becomes the source of new reveries.
The play of light and shadow on smooth and rough surfaces
also takes us from ordinary reality to some other, even other-
worldly dimensions. Isolated items in the vastness of dark
background emanate almost magic eff ects of talismans and
amulets, while “group compositions” of equal - but propor-
tionally chained pebbles draw us into the scene with their
new rhythms.

“Plemenitu eleganciju izvedbe Lovre Pogorelića, njegove
suverene, ali ne pretjerane, individualne odabire tempa –
koje je orkestar uglavnom dosta fl eksibilno pratio, - njegovu
prirodnu virtuoznost auditorij je nagradio urnebesnim pljes-
kom, a glazbenik koji i svojom skromnošću pokazuje primjer
svima, za to se zahvalio kratkim frapantnim preludijem Rah-
manjinova.” A. Kovács, Eozin magazine, Pécs.

Solo or accompanied by the orchestra, he makes pianistic cre-ations of convincing power and inarguable individuality. Michishita, Let’s Enjoy Tokyo, 5 best concerts in 2011“...He is extremely rich in performing music of a great variety and holds inexhaustible skills in his hands. Visually as spar-kling crystal and powerfully as dust blown up in the air. I am utterly astonished by a great variety of dynamic range, and his capacity in a swift shifting power of sequence in tune. His work contains many eccentric factors, although every grain of tune is as smooth and brilliant as velvet…” K.
