411 Texas Blvd. • P.O. Box 1029 • Dalhart, Texas 79022 305 East Pine St. • P.O. Reflection "Therefore, stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come." Jesus doesn't tell us when he will come again; but he does tell us all we need to know. First, he leaves no doubt in our minds that he will in fact return--this isn't a question we have to debate. And secondly, he tells us what we need to do to be ready: stay awake! As long as we don't doze off while we're waiting, everything will be all right. So our task is a relatively simple one. We are called to be on the look- out. We are supposed to be ready for the Lord when he appears. This is a straightforward instruction to be sure. But it does contain an inherent challenge: it's often much easier to hit the snooze button than to get up and at 'em. It's our task, however, to make sure we don't give in to the temptation to fall back asleep. This is what the season of Advent helps us to do. It's like the Church's alarm clock, ringing with persistence in our ears: Wake up! Throw off the covers of apathy and distraction! Jesus is coming! Get up and get your house in order before he arrives! What exactly this means will be different for all of us--the particular behaviors we need to change, the speciic virtues we need to develop--all of this is unique to each individual. But our common goal is the same--to clean house in our hearts and make ourselves ready to welcome the Lord. Yes, his return at the end of time will be a momentous event, but even if we never experience it during our lifetime, Jesus still wants to come to us here and now, to dwell in our hearts through the presence of his Spirit. This Advent, let's be ready to welcome the Lord every minute of every day.

El primer domingo de Adviento es el comienzo de un nuevo ano liturgico, estemos preparados o no lo estemos comenzaremos un nuevo ciclo de lecturas y re#lexiones que se re#ieren a todo el mis-terio de Cristo. DEVOTION TO MARY (A Rose for Mary Ministry}

Blessed Virgin Mary Please Pray This Week Especially for

In Memory of Jim Hubbs

Remember O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who !led to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this con!idence, I !ly to thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to thee do I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

The Rose often symbolizes Mary, the Queen of Heaven. In rela-

tion to the Blessed Mother it displays perfect love, form, fra-

grance, and color. For Mary the thorns on the rose remind us

that Our Lord Jesus Christ wore a crown of thorns and gave up

his blood for all humanity, as His Mother, Mary witnessed this

suffering and death !irst hand at the foot of the cross.

The Altar Society

versary or any special occasion. A rose bouquet will be placed

on the altar by the statue of Mary with a special section in the

bulletin recognizing the person being honored and prayed for

each week. The cost of the rose is $15.00.

to the volunteers, donors, and supporters of our Oktoberfest fundraiser and celebration. Oktoberfest is

rich in tradition and it has been humbling to watch everyone come together as a community and

enthusiastically help complete another fantastic year. With your generous help and support we were

able to raise $34,000. It seems like an impossible feat to thank each of you individually but please know that we

recognize the contributions of so many that enable Oktoberfest to be such a success. God bless you.
