Dear Families:
Today we greet each other with these words: HAPPY EASTER. We do this with much happiness and spiritual joy. It is the feast of the Resurrec on of Jesus; it is the feast of those who believe in and follow Christ. The disciples of Jesus went through mes of discouragement a er that Friday when their Lord was crucified and buried. They hid for fear of being persecuted, they felt failure and they dispersed. This is how it seems to us some mes. Consumed with family problems, the problems afflic ng our society and the world, we o en see no hope of solu on. In the midst of discouragement, something amazing happened. Early on Sunday, the women who followed Jesus went to finish embalming the body of Jesus only to find that the tomb was empty. Appari ons of angels, appari ons of Jesus, and things begin to happen again. Faith in the Resurrec on of Jesus made its way into the hearts of his followers. EASTER FAITH was triumphant over all obstacles: the failure to understand the will of God; fear; sadness; doubt ... all swept away by Jesus with the light of His Resurrec on. Since that Sunday, appari ons of Jesus came with His messages and what was expected of them (and of us). They also prepared to receive the gi of the Father and the Son: The Holy Spirit, which will be the SOUL of the church, the community of believers. May we feel the spiritual joy and peace of Easter. Let us con nue to talk about this story, which is the history of the love of God for us, to our young children and teens, so that they may be rooted in their souls with the power of the risen Christ; to our elders, that they may look forward, with peace and hope, to the future mee ng with Jesus in glory. Everything is passing in this life, but the life of glory with Jesus - resurrect-ed - is eternal and permanent. We were born to live the night of the Easter Vigil and Easter Day. Resurrec on is the ul mate victory over sin, the devil, and death; it is the entrance into glory with victorious Jesus, for all who believe in him. We wish you a Happy Easter: Fr. Celes no, Fr. Queridas familias: Hoy nos saludamos con estas palabras: HAPPY EASTER ó FELIZ PASCUA. Hacemos esto llenos de alegría y gozo espiritual. Es la fiesta de la Resurrección de Jesús, es la fiesta de los que creemos y seguimos a Cristo. Los discípulos de Jesús pasaron por momentos de desánimo después de aquel viernes en que fue crucificado y sepultado su Señor. Se ocultaron por miedo a ser perseguidos, se sin eron fracasados y se dispersaron. Así nos parece a nosotros algunas veces. Los problemas familiares, los problemas de nuestra sociedad, los problemas del mundo los vemos sin esperanza de solución. En medio de aquel desánimo sucedió algo sorprendente. Las mujeres que seguían a Jesús van temprano el domingo para terminar de embalsamar el cuerpo de Jesús y se encuentran con la tumba vacía. Apariciones de ángeles, apariciones de Jesús, y todo se pone en movimiento de nuevo. La fe en la resurrección de Jesús se fue abriendo paso en los corazones de sus seguidores. La FE PASCUAL fue triunfando sobre todos los obstáculos: el no comprender la voluntad de Dios, el miedo, la tristeza, la duda…todo fue barrido por Jesús con la luz de su Resurrección. A par r de aquel domingo van recibiendo las apariciones de Jesús, sus mensajes, lo que espera de ellos, y se preparan a recibir el regalo del Padre y del Hijo: El Espíritu Santo, que va a ser el ALMA de la iglesia, de la comunidad de los creyentes. Que sintamos el gozo y la paz espiritual de la Pascua. Y hablemos de esta historia, que es la historia del amor de Dios por nosotros, a nuestros hijos pequeños, a los jóvenes, para que eche raíces en su alma la fuerza de Cristo resucitado; a nuestros mayores, para que miren con paz y esperanza el futuro de encontrarnos con Jesús en la gloria. Pasa todo en esta vida, pero es permanente y eterna la vida gloriosa de Jesús resucitado. Nacimos para vivir la noche de la Vigilia y el día de Pascua. Resurrección es la victoria total sobre el pecado, el demonio y la muerte; y la entrada en la gloria con Jesús victorioso para los que creen en él. Feliz Pascua les deseamos: P. Celes no, P. St. Vincent Ferrer Feast Day - April 5
Born in Valencia to an English father and Spanish mother, Vincent joined the Dominican friars in 1367 and became a noted preacher, making converts even among Jews and Muslims. A er years of backing the Avignon papal claimants, Vincent withdrew his support, helping to end the papal schism that had di-vided the Western church. He did intensive mission work in France, Spain and Italy, drawing huge revival-type crowds and gaining fame as a miracle worker. He died during a preaching tour of Bri any.
Vicente, hijo de padre inglés y madre española, nació en Valencia. En 1367, se unió a los frailes dominicos y se convir ó en un notable predicador, llegando a conver r incluso a judíos y a musulmanes. Después de años de haber apoyado a los reclamantes papales de Aviñón, Vicente les re ró su apoyo, ayudando a poner fin al cisma papal que había dividido a la iglesia occidental. Él realizó una intensa labor misionera en Francia, España e Italia, atrayendo a mul tudes en una especie de renacimiento espiritual y ganando fama como obrador de milagros. Vicente falleció durante una gira de predicación en Britania.
